Just a simple shake shot with this Yellow-crowned Night Heron attempting to loosen a few feathers that might be tagging along and no longer needed. As close as you get with him standing off in the mud flats on Horsepen Bayou. And no, I’ve never seen a ghost on the bayou, and I’ve never watched a Ghostbuster movie all the way through, but I thought the phrase fit the scene.

reminds me of this: www.flickr.com/photos/diyosa/817994509/ I should process it the same.

The trees in the Hoh Rainforest look like mossy monsters. But I am sure they are harmless.

The little burrowing owlets are so excited to be flying that they sometimes fly erratically and this picture shows how one of the owlets is attempting to land on the other.

They are such fun to watch that they are hard to leave at the end of the day. You are afraid you might miss something else. Truly a wonderful little owl that brings joy to all who see them.

Wishing you a lovely night and a blessed one !!

It's nice to see a railroad that isn't afraid to still railroad. When I started my career what you see here was a common and efficient practice. The crew is making a drop or gravity switch which is exactly what it sounds like.

The Grafton and Upton Railroad crew arrived at their small yard here with GU 1191 (blt. Feb. 1978 as SCL 4221) and GMTX 226 (blt. Sep. 1975 as MILW 480) trailed by three cars. They tied the cars down north of the ladder and then cut their power off and ran it down south to clear the switches. Then they bled off the first car, cut it off, and used gravity to let it roll into the desired track with the brakeman riding the car controlling the speed with the handbrake wheel. They'd repeat this process with the two centerbeams and then cut away the north unit and use it to switch out the cars they needed to continue on with to Bellingham.

This was a pleasure to see in a world where so many of the old ways have been lost and the skills required have been dumbed down all in the guise of 'safety.' I personally don't take any exception to making straight drop, but I could see the arguments against making a flying switch or a 'Dutch drop' each of which require progressively more finesse and come with consequent higher levels of risk.

I do not believe one can settle how much we ought to give. I am afraid the only safe rule is to give more than we can spare.

This indeed is a safe refuge, it is the refuge supreme. It is the refuge whereby one is freed from all suffering.

When I was with him, I felt safe in his arms and when I was just around him, I was safe. And now, the only place I feel truly safe, invincible... is Karate.

Blazon, 2002.

Impressive thick layers of paint, so attractive that you want to touch the works: that is the work of one of Dutch artist Bram Bogart (1921-2012).

Afraid that the background was too dark, I thought of retaking this photo. But by then, I'd already eaten a few of the clementines, and somehow an emptier bowl just seemed...sad.

Position: This photo was taken on the edge of the forest near the town of Kladno, Czech Rep.
