I thought that birds were descended from dinosaurs and were always cold-blooded in nature. But last week one of the RSPB experts and Bremton Cliffs explained that the clashing beaks was some a ritual to strengthen the birds' monogamous bond before laying their eggs.
She is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are her life, her love, her leader.
She will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of her heart. You owe it to her to be worthy of such devotion....author unknown

Affectionately known to bird watchers as "butterbutts," yellow-rumped warblers are abundant migrants that pass through North America each spring and fall in most of Canada and in every state except Hawaii. Summer finds the gray and yellow birds in the evergreen forests of Canada, the mountainous western U.S. and the Northeast. They spend winters farther north than most warblers, in the southern U.S. as well as in Mexico and Central America. The yellow-rumped-warbler is a species that is familiar to just about every birder in North America. It has has four distinct forms, and compelling evidence that three of them are full species. It is not the first time these 5-inch-long, half-once birds have prompted debate among ornithologists. For most of the last century the yellow-rumped warbler was known to bird watchers as two species, the myrtle warbler of the East (and far north) and the Audubon's warbler of the West. However, in 1973, evidence the two species routinely hybridize in a narrow zone in western Canada led scientists to reclassify them as a single species. (news.cornell.edu) I saw this lovely warbler sitting amongst the cherry blossoms in Huntington Beach Library in Huntington Beach, California.

The Ragdoll is a cat breed with a color point coat and blue eyes. They are large and muscular semi-longhair cats with a soft and silky coat. The name "Ragdoll" is derived from the tendency of individuals from the original breeding stock to go limp and relaxed when picked up.
Particularly popular in both the United Kingdom and the breed's native United States, ragdoll cats are often known as "dog-like cats" or "puppy-like cats" due to such behaviors as their tendency to follow people around, their ease when physically handled, and their relative lack of aggression toward other pets.

The roses (from Latin pink) are the planting plants of the Rosaceae family. The genus encompasses between 100 and 250 species.
Although they are not the only birds to engage in similar behaviour, gannets are famous for "billing" or “mutual fencing.” While it can happen any time both birds from a mated pair are at their nest site, it is quite routine when one bird returns to the nest after foraging for food or nesting material. The two gannets will face each other, often touching and calling. They then shake their heads side to side with their bills clacking together. They often bow, rub necks, and preen each other’s neck before taking up the more mundane activities of nesting in colonies, such as bickering and fighting with neighbors.

Three visits to Mono Lake resulted in three very different images. The colours around the lake change all the time and I’d previously had a more purple looking image, a gorgeous blue image and today the light went a little flat with a patchy cloudy sky obscuring the sunshine.
I therefore opted to go for a longer exposure and to concentrate on one of the tufa rock formations out in the bay. Looking like a submarine, I loved the shapes in the outcrop of rock and the darkening clouds forming overhead.
It was interesting that, although I’d referred to the outcrop of rock as a submarine, right at the end of the shoot a local gentleman came up to me and referred to the rock as the Pirate Ship. After further discussion, it would seem that I was completely wrong and the outcrop has an official name and I therefore guess that I ought to name this image thus.
With the rain about to fall, this was one of the last images that I would capture at this truly amazing lake.

Affectionately known as the Beast, Dragonhunters (Hagenius brevistylus) are our largest dragonflies. We saw 4 perched yesterday, posing nicely, so a fun day at Gibbs Gardens/North GA.
I also found foty Band-winged meadowhawks, extremely rare in the Deep South. A mating pair!

A cat named Bruno was returned to a shelter for being 'too affectionate.' Now, he has a new home.

A cat that was returned to a New Jersey shelter for being "too affectionate" has found a new home – and has helped other cats at the shelter get adopted too.
Bruno the cat first arrived at the Montville Animal Shelter in November, after the child of his previous owners became allergic to him. Two months later, he was adopted by a single mother and young daughter seeking a first pet. But when they brought him home, the shelter's Lindsay Persico said, he was just a little too close for comfort.
Persico explained that the mother worked from home and the cat would constantly headbutt her, making it difficult to get work done. The cat also insisted on sleeping in the young daughter's bed, which resulted in the two staying up late to play. So a week later, Bruno was brought back to the shelter.
Persico said that when Bruno returned, he was depressed. So Persico took to Facebook and posted Bruno's story. The post blew up, with over 200,000 views and hundreds of comments. And the adoption applications started pouring in.
"We probably got about 50 [applications]," Persico said, which is rare for the shelter.
In fact, an update to the Facebook post said they had to pause applications. People from all over the country called the shelter to inquire.
Bruno was adopted and is now in a new home. But the overwhelming response has helped the shelter's other cats too.
"People were coming to our door to meet Bruno and we got almost all the cats in the store adopted in the meantime," she said.
I'm a 3-yr-old Shorthair Oriental, although my breed is not listed in the top most Affectionate Cat Breeds, I seek human cuddles and companions all the time!
When my human goes out, I carry my favorite toy, walk around the house and cry for at least 10 minutes. I don't meow when I cry, I make baby crying sounds instead.
I'm a handful.
A cat loving cat-sitter tells my human that she can no longer host me when he goes on his next trip because I demand too much of her attention.
It's fine, my human has a loving family that I can always sleep over at their houses. They let me nap on their lap. Well, they really don't want me to because they don't like my hair to cling all over on their clothes, but I am persistent. I show them how much I appreciate them by snuggling up on their faces a lot.
I figured out how to open the closed door and kitchen cabinets. I like to hide but often I get myself trapped, sometimes for a long time, so I meow my lungs out hoping someone will hear me eventually.

Sam Golden was affectionately known as Sammie G by the locals and by his customers alike. Sam, a likeable guy and a good businessman ran a very successful used car business in the small town of Goshen Connecticut, a short ride from the state's capital in Hartford. He had a reputation of giving fair prices on very good, well taken care of used cars, and people would come from miles away to shop for a car at Sam's. And Sam had an excellent connection for those good used cars with his twin brother Irwin who owned Golden's Ford across the border in Amenia, NY. And with that connection you might say that Sam got the cream of the crop of traded in cars from his brother's business. The arrangement that Sam had with his brother Irwin was for him to get the best trade in's from Irwin, and in return the profit on those cars once sold would be split fifty fifty between he and his brother. And, in spite of those bad post depression years of the early thirties, Sam was always able to keep his business in the black. Sam was once quoted as saying, "People always need a car. You can't go to work around here without a car. It's not like our little town has public transportation, and you need a car to go to work, and to put food on the table. And it's my job to help those people do that!" And Sam did that very thing.
In early 1934, Sam's brother sold a new 1934 Ford to Ezra and Margaret Chase. And the car they traded in was a 1930 Ford pictured in the middle of the above photo. Now, that doesn't seem so special until you hear the rest of the story. That new 1934 Ford purchased by Ezra and Margaret was subsequently stolen by a little known local gangster by the name of Clyde Barrow who had joined with Bonnie Parker, and used that car for a short spree of robberies, shootings, and murder. In the end both were shot to death in a police ambush in that very 1934 Ford.

Early Happy Caturday!
Cheetahs are caring, affectionate and dedicated mothers. They spend a long time caring for their cubs. Cubs typically stay with their mothers for one and a half to two years.
The cheetah originated over 4 million years ago. That’s long before any of the other big cats of today. They used to be found in North America when they crossed the Bering land bridge from Asia to the Americas before becoming extinct.
The cheetah is the fastest land animal in the world, reaching speeds of up to 113km/h. They can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in just 3 seconds. When running, cheetahs use their tail to steer, like a rudder for a boat.Cheetahs are the only large cat that can turn in mid-air while sprinting.
Cheetahs do not roar like lions, however they do have a range of other meaningful vocalisations such as purring, growling and a variety of contact calls which resemble bird-like chirping sounds. -Wikipedia
In such a period of being away, I'm glad cats sleep so much, Wanja is so affectionate! Fortunately, he is well taken care of during our week away.

Two male lions playfully greeting each other. Full frame, not cropped. I was actually too close but had no time to change cameras and this will have to do. At least one gets an idea of how massive that paw is.

The Nez Cassé class 363 locomotives, affectionately christened "Brižita" by Slovenian railroaders, are regularly encountered on the Koper ramp. 363 007 is heading uphill with a container train at Črnotiče. Due to the steep gradient, a helper locomotive is necessary even for the comparatively light container trains. The Leonardo DaVinci Taurus at the end of the train is still hiding between the trees.
There are people who speak ill of the fog of Milan. I don't know that of the other countries, but this in Milan is a great fog, nice, affectionate, friendly. Allow everything like a caress. And then it seems to me that the fog invites to intimacy, optimism, confidence.
Hana is more affectionate towards cats than her own kids who are grown up now ! I find it funny when Hana is strict with Chanku-Manku who are still very naughty but a doting and considering Mom towards mischievous kittens :)
