Why are these action pictures in black and white? The originals sucked. My 50mm just doesn't cut it when it comes to action from a distance (I know, it's a portrait lens mainly). Anyway, this is another salvage job. I love how you can over-sharpen a black and white photo and it still looks presentable (although Flickr sharpened it WAY too much -- you can see a nicer version on my FB page). I'm looking at possibly renting a 70-200mm lens locally very soon and I'm excited about it :)

Letting the sleeping dog lie, on my blanket 😐

You too could own a Celebrity hamster-this is Moria she is available for adoption now and her photo (by me this time) is in todays print version of the Toronto Star.

She is a real sweetie her cage used to be next to my desktop and she took a real interest in Flickr and Facebook (and whatever Starbucks treats I offered her)

Yay Toronto Star for shedding light on small animals plights!

I met with Brit's potential adoptive parents Sunday and the meet-and-greet went really well.

I am in the process of checking references for the family and hopefully, everything there checks out.

If it all looks good she could be in her forever home by this weekend!

Sweet Mr. Urso is one of the animals for adoption at the shelter where I volunteer my photography on the weekends (and the same one where I got Q). :)

I stuck a flashlight in that middle cloud over Champ's head to try to make it light up a bit. Had to clone my arm and body out so hope it doesn't look too bad, haha. Made these clouds out of a cottony fabric and hung them with string. I had a different idea with these clouds but it got too dark out before I had the clouds done and ready, so I had to do something else inside. I'll do my original idea next week!

PS. Anyone looking for a Golden to adopt in the LA area? I'm seriously convinced that I've found Champ's brother on a rescue site. I was browsing and found a splitting image of Champ. Turns out they're the same age too. Champ had 2 other brothers when I got him, and Champ was the darkest of them. Check him out here: www.grcglarescue.org/RP_AdoptMe.asp?aid=1854

UPDATE: St. Nick has found a home!

I think it's his brother...no joke. They look to alike not to be.

A volunteer shares a tender moment with Goldie, a sweet, scared little Lab mix with a misaligned jaw. It's believed that her jaw is misaligned because she suffered a blow to the face (shovel or similar instrument). Her muzzle is a bit odd looking from this angle, but she's healing slowly. Did I mention that she's also a senior? She needs a home in time for Christmas. She's very timid, but she has every right to be. People are so terrible, but capturing a moment like this really makes the world seem a whole lot brighter.

If you or someone you know would like to adopt/foster Goldie, please go to IHWN Animal Haven.

My very special little foster dog... still not found a forever home for her. But we keep trying

Jesse, the laziest hunter on earth, waits patiently for you to walk slowly underneath him. The slower the better, please.

I'm a year old rex rabbit who enjoys grooming my foster mom. I'm full of energy and love to jump around. I'm so soft and after kicking up my heels, enjoy a good petting session.

Alaska is a sweet and shy Alaskan Malamute mix. She's very, very timid, but she warms up to you pretty quickly if you let her (she was wagging her tail around me after 10 minutes). Here she's sniffing out a volunteer who has cookies in her hands.

If you or someone you know would like to adopt/foster Alaska, please go to IHWN Animal Haven.

Be Brave and Tall

A poem by Katie Gabrielle

Pretty green eyes

Don't be sad

You've touched our heart

And you've made us glad

Why would anyone abandon you?

It makes me sad to see you cry

It makes me want to wonder why

Pretty green eyes

Be brave and tall

Kind and strong

You've touched our hearts

And I hope you find

A real home with love

And kindness

So you will grow up to be

Pretty green eyes

A kitty, a cat

No longer lost

But found

And free...

Trying to salvage a totally messed up action shot. I was able to get some great ones of this boy playing with a flirt pole, but most were complete duds, as per usual. I need to work on my action shot technique... and maybe get a 70mm-200mm too (I've been dying to get one recently). I just can't justify paying over a grand for a lens though.

trying to get a good image of him... the feral cat at the office.

Isn't she beautiful? This is the cat that someone dumped near my co-worker's home and I took in her and her 3 kittens. Going to get them adopted. But look at her! And her personality is just as sweet. She's loving, affectionate, playful and will let anyone hold her and pet her. I don't think she'll be hard to find a home for. I don't understand how someone would abandon a cat like this. Maybe she ran away from home. We'll never know for sure.

This is RUPERT, a gentle, affectionate Plott Hound/Carolina Dog mix who’s a little under one year old. He’s a very endearing, people-focused young dog who has a rather sensitive, submissive side, so he’ll do well with kind handling and training to build his confidence. He’s quite playful once he warms up – he loves to pounce on a ball, and loves his toys!

Rupert will be a sweet family pet.

Rupert lives in kennel 40.

For more information about Rupert, contact doginfo@apsofdurham.org.

My kids and I volunteered at an adoption event for our local shelter and we were lucky enough to be responsible for four 2 month old kittens. When our two bad boys were kittens I used to carry them around in my hood and they loved it enough to nap. These kittens enjoyed it just as much.

our cute boy Moustachio, available for adoption in Maputo

She is a real explorer and loves the water.

She is likely to weigh about 30 pounds full grown. Betty is smart as a whip, walks

nicely on lead, and has a natural sit.

ain't she a doll? ^_~

Two of these babies need a home. The one on her back is taken. By me. I fell completely in love and can you see why? If you're in the NJ area and are interested please let me know. Please do pass this on to anyone you know in NJ. Spread the word!

SHE MADE IT !!!!!!!! Meme is in the adoption section now! YEAH.!!

NO chance of being euthanized. She will stay in adoption until she is adopted. If after a few weeks she is not adopted, they will find her a temporary Foster home (maybe us), keep her photo posted in their adoption center and do 'active' promotions. They set up temporary adoption centers in pet supply stores and some large discount centers and they work with at least one local TV station which does an 'Adopt a pet of the week' show every Friday.

We fell in love with this dog, but We are so relieved. Meme has a bright future!!!

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You

Each and every one of you for YOUR support !!!

Bless YOU !!!

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

FOR THOSE WHO COME LATE TO THIS PHOTO.... THE FOLLOWING IS

Meme's Story

Abandoned Meme...................................

Everyday I go to Sonic. I almost always park in the same stall. Today we pulled in at the end of the 3foot stockade fence was a dog, tied to the fence, howling and yelping, and whining in the opposite direction. My daughter and I looked at each other and studied the dog. Obviously distressed it kept looking in the direction of the building across the empty lot. A block down and to the left from it is a large homeless shelter. We watched and studied. Then I noticed a small piece of cardboard with writing on it. My heart skipped a beat, my daughter (must have seen it at the same time) looked at me and in unison we said “No, Oh no”!!! Tears welled up as I sent her to get the cardboard note. Too far away to read, I knew what it said. I read the first line and lost it.

“My name is Meme

I am 7yrs old. I am

Fixed & Very Lovable

My owner could not

Keep me – We are

Homeless. Please Keep

Me or Take me to the

Animal Shelter.

Thank You.!

Without a word, we exchanged looks and she got back out of the car and got back in with the dog. Now with Meme on the front floor and her lap We all cried.. My grand daughter in the back seat asking, “What’s wrong” I took some time to explain. And then she acted sad too. And put her hand on Meme and said “It’ be okay, we love you now” How many broken hearts this day?!! There is nothing sadder than the cry of a heart broken basset hound. Meme was not consolable. When we could talk, over her wailing. We decided we have too many animals and too tight a budget. So we pulled out (without ordering) and headed for the shelter (on the other side of town) I made a point of driving past the Homeless shelter ( slowly), it was the only one of two times Meme stopped crying. Her nose worked the air as she searched the groups gathered along the street. My daughter stroked and hugged her. If her owners were there maybe they saw she would be cared for. I hope it helped them, I know they are in pain too. As we pulled out onto the next street her crying continued. 3 miles down the road, while sitting at a traffic light, there was a homeless man with a sign, “Will work for food” , . She stopped crying and watched him, Her nose working overtime.. We smiled at him and nodded. I think he knew her but was not his. He waved looking at her. The light turned green and she began crying again. Looking forward now. We began to howl, and she howled with us. She seemed comforted that we would join her howl. ( howling hurt the ears less than wailing So for the rest of the journey across town, all four of us howled. We must have been a sight.

When we reached the shelter, I looked at my daughter and said “If she doesn’t go into adoption” and my daughter cut me off saying ”We WILL adopt her”.

Meme stopped crying. We got out of the car and I took this picture. We took her inside, showed them her sign and cried a little more. signed her in, gave her hugs .They gave me a sheet with her picture on it and all the numbers I need to check on her.

We went back to Sonic. (past happy hour now). We found out Meme had been there about an hour wailing, howling and crying. But no one saw anyone leave her.

By law the shelter has to keep her in lost dog area for 3 days (not counting Sat & Sun). I call Wednesday to find out if she goes to adoption or….. Well, there is no or !!! Except coming to our home. And for $25 she’ll have a fresh bath and all her current shots. I really hope she gets to go to adoption. But she is an old dog and that will weigh against her. Either way she WILL have a home. !

When we got home with out the ‘Happy’ drinks, we expected doom and gloom, We told him the story, handed him the picture and he said “What time Tuesday”/

Happy Drinks to you all.

This is what Lollie thinks of le cone de shame, which she has been instructed to wear again. Her stitches came out a week after her spay and they are healing fine, but her surgery area needs a little more time without any special attention from her tongue.

*****

Our foster dog, Lollie, came to us from the Montgomery County Humane Society, where she had been rescued out of a terrible situation. One day when animal control officers responded to a call about something making noise in a dumpster, they went to investigate. Upon opening the dumpster they found not a raccoon or squirrel as I imagine they were expecting, but a beautiful dog. To be exact, a three-year old female pit bull who was half starved, filthy, and covered in cuts and bruises. This was Lollie.

At the shelter, she quickly became a staff favorite. According to her friends there, she was one of few dogs who acted as though her modest, concrete enclosure was the lap of luxury compared to where she had come from. She was personable, quiet, potty-trained, and very gentle.

And yet, she kept being overlooked. Maybe it was the fact that after many washes, much of her fur was still yellowed from the filth she was found in. Maybe it was the scars and scratches on her face, which tell stories that nobody will ever know. Maybe it was the fact that you could clearly see every single one of her ribs through her fur.

After seven weeks at the shelter, Ben and I met her and decided she had to be ours to foster and save. She is exactly the kind of dog that runs out of time at the animal shelter every day, because she is not your standard cute puppy.

Lollie is doing great in our home, and even has her blog. You can follow her progress and adventures, or learn more about adopting this sweet girl on: loveandaleash.wordpress.com/

Snowy in the local cat shelter Katzenhilfe Oberhausen search a new home...

Deine Snowy
