Old Town Hall Arts Centre, Hemel Hempstead. Opened in three stages, 1857, 1861 and 1868, all designed by George Low in a Jacobean style, and replacing an earlier market dating from 1539. Following the creation of the New Town, the civic offices moved to a new building (now demolished) on Marlowes, and the OTH became redundant. In 1978, it was in use as a theatre and was refurbished and enhanced as an arts centre in 1986. The part used as the main theatre was designed as a multipurpose ballroom / corn exchange, and theatre was occasionally presented from the start. It has been improved on several occasions, the 1986 scheme had benches on a creaking retractable rake, now there are tip-up seats on a permanent rake. Drama, stand-up, music and films are all part of the mix. In addition, the cellar Bar has been reopened after a period of closure in a radically changed format. The main house seats 110, whilst the Cellar upto 65. There is also a large café / bar / gallery, and the usual admin, dressing rooms, and meeting rooms. It is grade 2 listed.

The other day, Dumbldad contacted Evaxebra about the "Welcome" message on the 365 Days site as it was out of date. (I must admit that I'd not noticed it.) Ewa responded and made Dumbledad a 365 Days admin as he regularly trawls the group looking for photos that aren't self-portraits. Dumbledad then asked me if I'd like to be an admin too as I'd been a moderator since 1 Jan 2010.

This is a 3-story, multiple-bay commercial building in the Beaux Arts/Neo-Classical style with Beaux Arts/Neo-Classical influences built in 1929. The structural system is wood platform. The foundation is undetermined. Exterior walls are original stone and original stucco. The building has a flat with parapet roof clad in an undetermined material. Windows are original wood, multi/multi double-hung sashes.

This school, formed to provide a Christian education for all grade levels, was founded in 1906 by A. B. Barret, an early educator and preacher for Texas Churches of Christ. It was first called Childers Classical Institute in honor of Colonel J. W. Childers, who deeded his homesite at North 1st and Victoria streets for use as a campus. Early expansion of the institution began in 1912 with the 12-year presidency of Jesse P. Sewell. In 1920 it became Abilene Christian College and nine years later was moved to new facilities here. The present name was adopted in 1976.
