Treatment
Although there is no cure for drug addiction, the treatment options at AZITTS can assist you in overcoming addiction and remaining drug-free. Your treatment will be determined by the drug used and any related medical or mental health disorders you may have. Long-term follow-up is essential for preventing relapse.
1. Treatment programs for chemical dependency
Treatment programs typically provide:
•The individual, group, or family therapy sessions are available.
•Understanding the nature of addiction, becoming drug-free, and avoiding relapse are priorities.
•Outpatient, residential, and inpatient programs are examples of care levels and settings that vary depending on your needs.
2. Detoxification
Your medications will be checked at least every three months. Any suggested changes to your medications may be communicated to you or your doctor.
The goal of detoxification, also known as “detox” or withdrawal therapy, is to help you stop using the addictive drug as quickly and safely as possible. Outpatient withdrawal therapy may be safe for some people. Others may require admission to a hospital or a residential treatment center
3. Opioid Overdose
In the event of an opioid overdose, emergency responders or, in some states, anyone who witnesses the overdose can administer naloxone, an opioid antagonist. Naloxone temporarily reverses the effects of opioid drugs. While naloxone has been available for years, delivery systems such as Narcan (a naloxone nasal spray) and Evzio (a naloxone injection device) are now available, though they can be costly.
4. Behavioural Therapy
Behavior therapy, a type of psychotherapy, can be provided as part of a drug treatment program by a psychologist or psychiatrist. You can also receive counseling from a licensed alcohol and drug counselor. Therapy and counseling can be done with an individual, a family, or a group.
