3rd day of exploring.
We spent about 5 hours in this enormous place and only saw about a 1/10 of it. It's an abandoned steel power plant with one blast furnace.
Since we wanted to see as much as possible we were basically running through the place, taking pictures left and right. I still tried to come up with interesting compositions... I hope these pictures don't feel too rushed.
I really want to go back and spend more time there, but unfortunately this is probably not gonna happen for a while...
looking through the doorway, a broken chair, old style mailbox and crumbling walls are all that remains in one of the administrative offices at the caldwell school in youngstown, ohio.
YOUR COMMENT IS THE GREATEST "AWARD" YOU COULD GIVE -- No graphics please.
THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY COMMENTS!!!
The house was built for two families in Austin and therefore is split into two living areas. The house consists of two pavilions connected by a glass hallway.
The design was greatly influenced by different regions and cultures. Both the use of the roof as an outdoor living space and the shading devices are derived from Moorish architecture. The body of water and the spatial continuity between inside and outside was inspired by Asian architecture. while the structural transparency of the volumes and the minimalist aspect of the interior was derived from Japanese pavilions.
The house is constructed of a modular steel frame. The frame is infilled with prefab thermasteel panels to minimize construction on-site waste. The structural frame is exposed, showing the construction process and articulating the house’s facades. The repetitive modular method, as well as the prefabrication allowed for greater efficiency during construction.

Soldiers inspect a perfectly intact Caudron G.4 purported by the author to have made a forced landing near his position. This is a commercial postcard, which turns up routinely with different accounts on how the aircraft came to be in German hands at varying locations.
The Caudron G.4 was a twin-engined French biplane widely used during World War I as a bomber aircraft. It was designed by René and Gaston Caudron as an improvement over their Caudron G.3. The aircraft was no delight for the eye with its massive, open construction. The aircraft employed wing warping for banking. The first G.4 was manufactured in 1915, both in France, England and in Italy.
The Caudron G.4 was used as a reconnaissance bomber into the heart of Germany. Later, when Germany developed a fighter force, the aircraft had to be used for night bombings.

Secretariat Buildings designed by Gio Ponti.

Decision to build a new Capital for Pakistan in Islamabad was taken by Ayub Khan (one of many military dictators in this country’s unfortunate history), in 1959. The birth of Louis Kahn’s Dacca Assembly building in East Pakistan is also a result of a related decision taken at this time.
The Greek firm of Doxiadis Associates drew the master plan to set the city against a beautiful backdrop of Margalla Hills, using ‘dynapolis’ theory to avoid traditional static settlement and allow unimpeded growth in the future.
Road layout was to form a grid dividing the city into 750 acre squares, ideal size for a self-supporting community. These communities were designed to house various social groups using the Civil Servant Income scales.
Colombo Plan employed 3/4 British Architects (Gerard Brigden, Bradford, Goodyear & Franklin) who produced most notable social/housing buildings in early mid 60s.
Gio Ponti from Italy designed ‘Hotel Pakistan’ and secretariat buildings.
Both Louis Kahn (President’s House) and Arne Jacobson (National Assembly) wasted few years work without producing any results. The desire to see something ‘Islamic’ by political masters was no match for these intellectual architects. Edward D. Stone however had no difficulty in designing and building a sickening President’s Palace here.
My apologies to the addicts of 'star' rated modern architecture lovers but this is the way history goes. Scanned from slides taken in 1969.

We love taking on customers projects and turning their ideas into reality.
Brad’s been thinking of how he wants an Air/Oil Separator to look and operate in his car, so he's entrusted STM with fabricating this for him.
Pictured is the template Jamie is mocking up for the car.
Once the final design is settled on folding and welding the housing is nice and easy knowing you have a shape that will fit the space.
This particular Air/Oil Separator will be sealed and baffled.
This design will help with keeping vacuum in the crank case at all times.
If you have a project or some ideas that need custom fabrication for your performance car make sure you see the team at STM.
You can catch us on 04 5866384 or at admin@speedtechnz.com
