aka Dravo House
Louisville/Jeffersontown, Jefferson County, KY
Listed: 05/30/1990
The Diamond Fruit Farm (hereinafter referred to as Dravo) is significant at the local level under Criterion A as an active and well-preserved example of a Gentleman Farm Property Type. As part of the "Agriculture in Louisville and Jefferson County, Kentucky 1800-1930" context, Dravo's built, tilled and natural landscape has retained the original integrity associated with the property since Valentine Conrad first settled the area in 1837. Dravo survives as an operative farm amid the intense and rapid suburbanization of the new Hurstbourne Lane corridor.
The property's cultivated use spans more than 150 years. During its period of significance/ three family owners (who were and are prominent citizens within the Louisville area) chose to till the soil as both vocation and avocation. As such, Dravo's form and function have consistently reflected the character of its owners and its surroundings. And, Dravo is just one example, though arguably the best example, of a genteel farm operation in the eastern portion of Jefferson County. Therefore, the discussion of Dravo draws upon the family histories and the history of Jeffersontown to support the context of this property as a gentleman farm.

The plaque reads:
The style is inspired by abstract natural forms and the work of Stanley Donwood. The design depicts Birmingham Wellbeing Service's provision that encourages and enables its citizens and communities to adopt healthier lifestyle choices and increased levels of physical activity; maximising physical and mental health by developing and implementing a health and wellbeing delivery approach that identifies and seeks to remove any social, financial and environmental barriers that prevent people from making positive changes in their lives.

OK, so she (check out those hips) has an owl perched on her skull, is brandishing a pointy dagger, has a SMALLER skull on a string like some sort of voodoo yo-yo..that's a lot to contemplate for a dollar store decoration!

I haven't been active on Flickr for a few weeks but I have been taking photos. I've been updating my Facebook photography page instead.
But it was the 40th Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Festival this past weekend and I was given a photo pass to capture some images for them. It was a great weekend and I took many photos of many artists and festival goers.

Heading home to Ladner from Victoria (on Vancouver Island (Canada)) today, there was enough fog that a lookout was posted at the front of the ferry. I spent the first half of the trip with a 180mm lens capturing the wonderful bleakness/richness of the fog. It is the long weekend, so there were a lot of small craft about, livening up our trip.
