Tumbleweeds racing around the desert landscape are a familiar, windy day spring scene. I have watched herds of them hip-hopping across the back field like jack rabbits. And like jack rabbits, they are prolific and efficient reproducers.

Yesterday I took a drive out to Needles, Canyonlands south district and only heard one car and saw another that followed me out of the park. I encountered no other humans during my visit. The place I wanted to hike was covered with snow so I chose a different spot to hunt for ice and play with the stark contrasts of winter snow and shadows. When I arrived back at the parking lot, a raven was standing on the pavement and did not fly away at my approach. I opened the driver's door and was immediately buzzed by another raven who landed just behind me. I gave them both a few crumbs from my lunch which they scrambled for and gobbled up. The buzzer even caught the morsels in mid-air. When I turned my back for more he flew up to perch on the car door where he proceeded to catch morsels in mid-air, leaving the misses to the missus, who cringed at his lunges.

There are many Native American stories about ravens and their powers, spirits, and antics. They are known for their cunning and resourcefulness.

As I was playing around with this image in #mirror_lab, the raven seemed to punch through the light as if he's walking through and into his own shadow transforming the shattered light into a platform for what's to come.

Maybe that was his message.

WE ARE DIGITAL

I am finding some interesting colors and patterns in some of my ICM images. This one seems to pop right off the screen.

An almost abstract and distinctly Spanish mix

This morning as I fiddled around with some recent pics, I found myself transported back to my childhood and the hours I spent with my spirograph, kaleidoscope, etch-a-sketch, and view master. Only those of a certain age will have any idea what I'm talking about, but they were some of my first forays into What If? They also helped me understand math and geometry visually.

In this image, the selection of Topo and Height Maps accentuates and expands the height of each element, turning leaves under ice into a furry exlosion.
