Yesterday's MNNR Belt Job ran a miniature stone train up to Superior Sand and Gravel in New Brighton, Minnesota seen here shoving onto the Twin Cities Arsenal spur after coming back from Fridley light power and picking up their train at the former Stockyards. Power for the train is a trio of ex-LMX B39-8Es and the transplant TTI B36-7. Expecting a potash train from CN that didn't arrive for another several hours, the Belt Job tied down at Stockyards and wasn't relieved until later that evening.

This was taken almost 3 years ago at Yellowstone National Park on a frosty spring morning. Camping in the park is the absolute BEST. I'm really wishing I could be back there right now.

In exploring AI and the generation of images, one approach has led me to make specific queries, then select any images that appeal to me. I then modify them using a digital tool, thus creating a composition that reflects truly my own creative disposition and identity. This process was used to compose 'Entrapment Absolute'. The query addressed to the AI image generator was 'Digital Composition.'

A second process involves mounting an image generated by AI with one of my own digital images that resembles or contrasts with the machine-generated one.

From both processes, an interesting next step would be to invite viewers to say which image was which.

The daring boldness of the Eye is staggering from the ground ...

Constructing it was a massive engineering undertaking. It’s the tallest cantilevered observation wheel in the world, rising high above the London skyline at 135 metres. It was a piece of daring innovation and revolutionary design which combined the best of British design, architecture and engineering with an exceptional team of experts. Parts were made in 7 countries ...

The London Eye passenger capsules incorporate an entirely new design form for an observation wheel. Instead of being suspended under the wheel they turn within circular mounting rings fixed to the outside of the main rim. The result is a stunning 360 degree panoramic view from the top of the wheel.

The London eye has 32 capsules, representing the 32 boroughs of London. Capsules have 360 degree views, a heating and cooling system and bench seating.

Any visitor to the London Eye can’t help but be amazed by the incredible six backstay cables holding the wheel in place. And then, when you look up you see the wheel cables stretching across the rim and the wheel. The wheel cables include 16 rim rotation cables, and 64 spoke cables, which are similar to bicycle spokes, holding the rim tight to the central spindle.

With an absolute monster of a train, NS freight train 173 slowly grinds its way up through the distinctive Kings Mountain cut under a thick layer of cloud cover on January 25, 2020, in Kings Mountain, KY.

and who can be more so than Gaius Julius himself. This bust made of green slate from Upper Egypt a hundred years after his death is claimed by many historians to be as close to his looks that we can possibly get. Hipshot from Altes Museum, Berlin, where the bust is kept.

The machine which helped reach this location ... ah Heaven!

I've seen Kelvin-Helmholtz effect at the top of temperature inversions before but was nice to get a more photogenic combo with the Ben Ledi cross and the rising moon.

With NP #3617 on my mind, I went back and revisited one of my absolute favorite sets of photos, taken back in 2014. I didn't visit the SCRY much, as the hour and a half drive seemed a lot of effort, never mind that today I drive 5 hours without hesitation. Regardless, on this day I headed down and managed to catch both sets of power paired up; GP9's 1363/1352 and faux SD45's 1326/1325. I got some good shots, although the line is unfortunately pretty bland. Once the power got parked is where the day really took off. Shooting some rosters and whatnot, we noticed the crew was headed back out with buckets and hose! As we watched the crew scrubbing the engines, one of the most shortline things ever happened. The crew called over and said "If you're gonna take pictures, you can come help!". Rob headed over and manned the hose for the crew. It was so cool to see these immaculate units in their oh-so-close Northern Pacific livery, and to see guys out making sure their equipment stayed looking good was awesome to see. With the SCRY sounding as if they are just hanging on with customer closures, lets take a look back at a better time.

A mooch around Oxford last week. Some fantastic architecture in that beautiful Cotswold stone.A mono though because of the intense light.
