From the garden hide.

I had hoped to bring you something different from RSPB Geltsdale.

Not only was the path an absolute quagmire, due to drainage works but there were hardly any birds.

I saw Fieldfares, Greylag Geese and Lapwings flying over and that was it.

Very disappointing and not worth braving the bitterly cold wind coming down the valley.

A Great gray owl taken at Hagley Falconry uk totally focused on just one thing, Me!?...

Nicknamed the Marilyn Munroe towers. Very cool architecture.

The 19th of September on the Island of La Palma started an eruption at the Cumbre Vieja volcanic ridge. The longest eruption (86 days) in the history of the island, and the most destructive in the last century in Europe, was finally declared over by experts on Christmas Day.

Lava flows from the new volcano have destroyed 1,646 buildings – 1,318 of which were homes – as well as 73 kilometers of roads and 369 hectares of crops. The advance of the molten rock, which has covered 1,221 hectares of land, forced the evacuation of more than 7,000 people. Among these, some 2,300 residents of La Palma have lost their homes.

What is left over is a cone with all kinds of colors, hard to believe all the damage and suffering it provoked.

I don't love this photo, but how does one walk by these massive cactus-blossom showstoppers and not shoot? It's physically impossible for me.

Reference the links page, I have now included beneath the link for Trade Republic, a new link to a YouTube playlist on how to get started in Trading as an absolute beginner, it’s very simple and easy to follow as well as being quite funny.

Now onto the photo, I took this about a year and a half ago, a hot spell in summer got me out of the house for a walkabout. I happened upon a small graveyard which I didn’t expect to find, noticing this old metal watering can and tap, I pondered as to why people put flowers on grave sites, as if to consider somewhat an outward practice of flourishment, that if the flowers are at least alive, then some resemblance of the living still remains. Seems humans take life for granted, are terrified of death, long for the life to comeback once someone has expired yet it takes so little time to, at least in present thought, to withdraw from the world’s perspective, humans are abundantly steeped in contradiction.

I hope everyone is well and so as always thank you! 😊

A few days ago, I went exploring the Vallée des Fantômes, with my brother Renald(lefion) and my friend Julien (Abo)...we were alone on the summit for about 2 hours....it was a magical experience that I will never forget.

The «Vallée des Fantômes»

The phantoms inhabit the valley at an altitude of 800 metres near the clear peaks. The trees are so well protected from winds that blowing snow from nearby summits causes up to three metres of snow accumulation, decking out the evergreens with a layer of soft snow that eventually camouflages them completely. These are the phantoms. It is guaranteed that you will experience a total change of scenery! After a good snowfall, the atmosphere is muted, the ground seems to be carpeted in cotton batten and the silence is omnipresent.

Trwyn Du Lighthouse, Penmon Point North Wales.

It's been what seems an absolute age since I've been here and it wasn't part of the plan for today, I'd planned to do a third day at the utterly amazing abandoned quaryy at Dinorwic (photos to follow) however a wrng turn, and a total inabilty to pass anything steam train related (Welsh Highland Railway) saw me well off the route and looking for another option, so Anglesey it was....

A quick check on tide times told me what I wanted to now with a low incoming tide here, good chance of some nice foreground.. A quick wander around and this composition just literally jumped out at me, S curved path directly to the lighthouse and some great deep seaweed encrusted rockpools left full by the last tide.

While I was taking this a guy came wandering down and was just about to walk right in front of my set up.. I asked him to hang on for a minute, he said "'oh are you taking pictures too" I'm not sure how much more obvious I could have been as a photographer without maybe a huge red arrow over my head and a neon sign saying 'Hi I'm a photographer', neverthless he seemed to see that I was also taking pictures... once I was done he walked right down to the water line took his snap, and then made his way back.... I said to him, "do you not think it is a better image from here"? to which he replied "no, you are far too far away here", so that was me told, I packed up and retreated to the car. Brilliant.

Conclusion from this trip: I need to visit North Wales so much more as it is absolutely beautiful, and an equal drive time to the Lakes or North Yorkshire. And maybe I should stand closer....

In exploring AI and the generation of images, one approach has led me to make specific queries, then select any images that appeal to me. I then modify them using a digital tool, thus creating a composition that reflects truly my own creative disposition and identity. This process was used to compose 'Entrapment Absolute'. The query addressed to the AI image generator was 'Digital Composition.'

A second process involves mounting an image generated by AI with one of my own digital images that resembles or contrasts with the machine-generated one.

From both processes, an interesting next step would be to invite viewers to say which image was which.

It was not only my fifth and final morning, but it was in my final available hour of photographing the beauty of Custer State Park when this lovely lady caught my eye. I had already logged some 3.5 mile of wandering the rolling hills and rock formations in search of a Prairie rattler (another swing and a miss) when I realized that it was time to head back to my car.

As I stood at the back of my car packing away my camera gear, movement caught the corner of my left eye. As I attempted to zero in on the distraction, my mind instantly noticed that of the 50 or so Prairie dog mounds in front of me, not a single dog was up, or alerting on my return…something was very different.

Just as I started to conclude my scan of the area, it happened again. Some 25 yards out, a large amount to dirt was thrown in the air. Something much bigger than a Prairie dog was digging behind the mound, just out of view. Matching the speed of Forest Gump reassembling his weapon in boot camp, I unpacked my largest lens, switched camera bodies and attached my monopod in record time!

It took a while to close the gap a bit because I had to stop every few steps and look through the lens for activity, check settings and be ready to capture a few safety shots. I wrongly assumed that whatever it was, it would disappear into its den the second I was noticed. When she arched her back up, perfectly displaying the unmistakable markings of a Badger, I gasped, gulped and nearly provided a fecal sample instantly!

I took several shots of her back with dirt flying through the air, just in case this would be my only opportunity granted with this bucket listed gift from God. I guess her internal safety alarm went off…or she noticed my need of a shower, but she threw her head in the air, noticeably utilizing her sight, olfaction and hearing…now staring right down my lens.

It was at this point I captured this shot, a personal treasure. Knowing that the 20 or so yards between us was well within both of our comfort zones, I knew she pretty much had three options…dive down into the newly dug den, run away, or my least favorite…jump on my head and eat my face. Once again, I was blessed to be wrong as she chose a fourth option. She trotted away from me another 20 yards or so and started digging again. It was then that I realized she was hunting Prairie dogs, hunger had this normally nocturnal lady out late, away from her den and probable cubs.

The newly acquired distance between us provided much more comfort as she proceeded to hunt, her checks on my whereabouts becoming less and less frequent. It was when she decided to flip over on her back to enjoy a roll in the freshly dug dirt that I knew she was totally relaxed, and I was able to properly sex her. For the record…no photos of her “womanhood” was taken as I did not desire to have them in my camera nor computer…just in case something would tragically happen to me, like her jealous hubby jumping on my head and eating my face! I would hate for my memory to be tainted when “badger parts” photos were discovered in my files!

Several cars passed by, no doubt looking for wildlife…surely noticing me on my knees out in the middle of a prairie dog town. All missing the opportunity of this rare encounter and absolute blessing. I backed away slowly as I did not want to disrupt this mom’s guilty little pleasure, knowing that the hunt probably wouldn’t end until success was achieved.

Surely she would not betray me...

Wow wow wow!! 2.5 yrs ago the robin at my old hide had 5 young unfortunately rats were seen killing 2 of the remaining 3 ,2 were leucistic 1 not a lot i called Storm the other an absolute beauty of a bird I called Blizzard.

Well after they had grown they were chased off by their parents and luckily 1 of the little whites went 200 yds to a friend lotty plot for a few weeks but disappeared.

Now my new place is the other side of the ground quite a distance away I have been there since last March and its affectionately know as the paddock hide.

Well yesterday I went down with the dogs and the camera and after an hour who should appear but Blizzard cant tell you how happy I am and to top it all as well as it being almost Christmas today is national robin day you I'm extremely happy to see my old friend (how old do robins live esp when their bright white) and I have a male sparrowhawk on the prowl?

What a delight just like to wish my flickr friends a very Merry Christmas and I really hope old blizzard becomes a regular fixture .
