Yosemite National Park is in California’s Sierra Nevada mountains. It’s famed for its giant, ancient sequoia trees, and for Tunnel View, the iconic vista of towering Bridalveil Fall and the granite cliffs of El Capitan and Half Dome.
Arizona Blister Beetle (Epicauta arizonica) is a striking insect found in the southwestern United States and northern Mexico, thriving in desert and semi-arid regions. Adults feed on the leaves and flowers of plants, while their larvae parasitize grasshopper eggs. Though fascinating, these beetles can be pests, damaging crops like alfalfa and posing risks to livestock due to the toxic cantharidin they produce.
I can't lie. I did not have to go far to find these first-of-the-season wild California Poppies, in my front yard. They are right on time, mid-February every year, and generally guaranteed for Valentine's Day. The bloom in the center is just starting to unfurl and bust through its "cap", and the other two did so just hours before. They never really fully opened today though because it was cold and windy and they are not stupid. 😊💕

I’ve been fortunate enough to see a lot of local Western Screech Owls and this is my favorite one before he jumped off the cavity for hunting. Shot with 1200mm and the nest 30 ft up high.
Thank you so much for all your beautiful comments and faves. Have a great weekend folks.
Milpitas Bald Eagles;
The two chicks are sitting calmly when dinner time. This is the 4th years that they used the same nest. The eagles selected a towering redwood in the only group of tall trees in the area. And the nest, composed of thick sticks, sits atop a large horizontal limb about 60 feet above the school grounds.
this one hunts while there is dew on the ground and on low-lying plants, which attracts beetle grubs to the surface. during the day, it hunts insects, lizards and small rodents. It is slightly smaller than the eurasian sparrow hawk.
I learned something on this photo trip. Don't be afraid to turn up the shutter speed! This shot was a 1/3200 and it still had some blur because the subject was so close. I have to remember that many of the new mirrorless cameras, especially this one, can render great detail at crazy high ISOs. This was shot at ISO 1600. If I set my shutter to 1/6400 to really freeze the action my ISO would only be ISO 3200 and very sharp. Note to self for next time.
