- www.kevin-palmer.com - I always used to wonder what these stacks of white boxes are that I would see in many rural areas. They are beehives.

Same as the earlier shot submitted to the pool but with a little lomo applied and rotated. Hope that's ok. I couldn't decide which one I preferred.

A popular place for photographing on Jæren, Norway.

Me and Richard have had a really nice Valentine's Day, with good food, a nice hike in the forest and a photography road trip on Jæren.

If you look closely, you can spot Richard's new drone to the left ツ

Another view of Buckingham Palace as the Sun went down last Saturday evening..:O))

Seeing as everybody seemed to like the other one soooooooooo much...it was my most viewed and faved image in one day, without me doing anything to it, over 200 views and over 80 faves...which is amazing for an image I didn't even think was that good lol...shows what I know hey...I have hundreds of similar shots like the one below, which were / are destined to be binned..:O)))

And it also goes to prove that Explore hates me as well, cause even after all of the above...I didn't even get a sniff of being on the front page...some people have to do half of the above and get to number one...Bitter...moi...lol..:O)))

Anyhoo...the weather here in London this weekend has been terrible, nothing but rain all day yesterday, and today is dull and grey, so it looks like another day indoors...I guess I'll just have to settle down and watch West Ham get another thrashing live on Sky sports 1 this afternoon, as we go to the home of our great rivals Chelsea....altogether now...stick the blue flag up your....

LOL...Have a great Sunday everybody...:O))))

A Po-Matoran who loves Kohli and once helped Takua along his journeys?… Or a secretive, all powerful, all knowing, Great Being in disguise?

The one who would choose to become known as Podu, was already reclusive compared to his fellow great beings. More concerned with the next technological project than associating or allying himself with others.

When the great cataclysm of Sphereus Magna came crashing down many great beings gave in to their fear and joined Velika in his plan to escape within the Great Spirit robot.

Podu quickly regretted his choice to throw in with the crazed Velika and parted ways with the mad being. He took up a simple life, using his advanced engineering skills as a stone carver in Metru Nui, and later again on the island of Mata Nui.

After the conjunction of the planets and Bara Magna bloomed, Podu moved into the Great Desert with the rest of the Po-Matoran, continuing to fool everyone.

Upon hearing of Velika’s path of destruction across the planet, Podu realized there would be no solace. The veneer of his false identity cracked, revealing the intelligent monster that had been waiting to strike all these many years. Leaving his hidden life, Podu plans to return to his ancient workshop and release his terrible creations upon the world so that he may be finally left alone in silent peace.

A bit of a ways off the beaten path this pond is a treasure just waiting for those with 4 wheel drive and an adventurous spirit

I wanted to take a shot for my one-a-day photo challenge and I was also aware that I still needed to submit a shot for the weekly photo assignment which this week is themed: Water of life.

I certainly cannot claim that this is an original shot. It is something that I have seen numerous times on Flickr and elsewhere and something I have always wanted to attempt myself. This seemed like the perfect opportunity to give it a try.

We all know that water is essential for life and is constantly moving around us as part of the water cycle by evaporation and precipitation (...plus a few more steps I'm sure!). This whole notion is summed up for me perfectly when seeing a single drop of water joining a waterbody.

For this shot I had a plastic paint container filled with water and a bag above it with some water plus a tiny hole in it to provide consistent drops. I had a flash gun borrowed from a friend which I had attached to a the camera as I don't have the equipment to trigger it remotely. I also had a box covered with some silver foil behind the tray with the flash directed to bounce off of the foil as much as possible. Then it was just a matter of getting the focus and timing zeroed in. I got a few shots which I liked, but this was my favourite of the bunch.

EDIT:

I was absolutely delighted to discover that this is my first photo to be featured in Explore for May 2nd, so thank you to everybody for your kind words and favourites! I appreciate all of your feedback! :)

This beautiful woman I call my soul sister recently sent her 17 year old son off to be a Marine. He has been planning it out for a few years and finally flew off to boot camp in January. She longs for her son and wanders how he will do. She misses his presence yet has pride in his accomplishment. I think she will hold her breath until she sees his eyes again in April.

Bustling market scene at Ballybricken Green in Waterford. Would imagine this refreshment van did a brisk trade in tea and coffee that day. And what a beautiful milk jug!

That's M.J. (Michael J.) Phelan's Hotel in the background at no. 14. And Poole Photographic Studio scratched out some of the sign behind the van, which reads Lipton's Tea 1s/4d (1 shilling/4 pennies).

We know that Phelan's Hotel is now Smak, East European Store thanks to Niall McAuley, and here's an approximately contemporary map from blackpoolbeach.

Thanks to swordscookie for his family tale (and for id-ing the Bull Post):

"My wifes family came from just off to the left of this shot off the Yellow Road. The cattle fair took place there right into the '60's and her younger brother loved going there when down on holidays. He invariably came home covered in cow dung as he was very small and got slapped by many a cows tail as he wandered about."

One of our NLI Facebook people, Niall Ahearne, told us that:

"The tall building to the right hand side of the photo used to be Mackeys Public house. It was known locally (to those 'in the know') as "Lourdes" because if a man wanted an early morning 'cure' badly enough he'd always get a drink in there very early in the morning by giving a discreet (I suppose) knock on the side door!" Niall also said: "do ye see the tall chimney above the "r" in the Waterford sign? I would venture to suggest that that was from the old Strangman's Brewery in Mary Street, later to become Cherry's Brewery and now part of Diageo! I used to live in Mary Street from early 50s to mid 60s!"
