Å is the most southern village on the island group of the Lofoten. They hang stockfish on these racks to dry them. For more information check:

Enjoy the fact that you do not have to smell the fish.

The hooded oriole (Icterus cucullatus) is a medium-sized New World oriole.

Their breeding habitat is open areas with trees, especially palms, across the Southwestern United States and northern Mexico. The nest is a tightly woven pouch attached to the underside of a leaf or tree branch. Sometimes their nest is filled with the egg of a Brown-headed cowbird which is parasite bird that lays its eggs in other birds nests for that species to take care of.

These birds migrate in flocks south to Mexico's southwestern coast; they are permanent residents in Baja California Sur, the Mexican east coast, and Belize. Some may over-winter near feeders. They can also be found in Southern California neighborhoods, but are rare in the winter.

They forage in trees and shrubs, also feeding from flowers. It is a nectar robber because it pierces the base of the flower, and does not assist in pollination. These birds mainly eat insects, nectar and fruit, and will also visit hummingbird feeders and bird feeders for seeds.

Adults have a curved bill which is completely black and white wing bars. The adult male has a deep yellowish orange head with black on the face and throat; they are black on the back, wings and tail, orange on the underparts. The adult female is olive-green on the upper parts, yellowish on the breast and belly. Their calls consist of whistling and wheets, while their song is a mixture of both.

É preciso dizer-lhe que tua casa é segura

Que há força interior nas vigas do telhado

E que atravessarás o pântano penetrante e etéreo

E que tens uma esteira

E que tua casa não é lugar de ficar

mas de ter de onde se ir.

A scenery I recently captured from Santorini island, in Greece.

The above photo has been shot with the Samsung NX10

Santorini also known as Thera is a volcanic island located in the southern Aegean Sea, about 200 km (120 mi) southeast from Greece's mainland. It is the largest island of a small, circular archipelago which bears the same name. It forms the southernmost member of the Cyclades group of islands, with an area of approximately 73 km2 (28 sq mi) and a 2001 census population of 13,670. It is composed of the Municipality of Thira (pop. 12,440) and the Community of Oía (pop. 1,230). These have a total land area of 90.623 km2 (34.990 sq mi), which also includes the uninhabited islands of Nea Kameni, Palaia Kameni, Aspronisi, and Christiana (all part of the Municipality of Thira).

Santorini is essentially what remains of an enormous volcanic explosion, destroying the earliest settlements on what was formerly a single island, and leading to the creation of the current geological caldera.

Just a Dream

A poem by Peter S. Quinn

Just a dream in the far-off glow

Drifting in time's infinity

Gleaming mist in horizon slow

Everything comes there to be

Weaving the ocean on and on

Dreams of its being in trance

Till those hours forever are gone

On to the color verve blanch

Daydreams of the evening sky

Playfully giving and waking

Reaching to dusk Greek lullaby

And to memories forever making

Breathing and torching leaving day

As it goes on to the night

In every shade and feelings play

That for a moment has flight

Like love boat on oceans past

Traveling on to the evermore

Times on the hillsides are lost

Thru its wandering on to shore

Billows that play in the deep

Giving and taking of their feel

Some instances is ours to keep

Before they again become unreal

A Softer Appeal. Many flowers to enjoy everywhere, certainly. Colors, shapes and textures. The sizes vary tremendously. The scent or aroma we enjoy, they’re all part of our attraction. Where flowers are grown and how, can attract us as well. Climate and location where they’re grown are a draw to our affections. Finally, “A Softer Appeal” draws us closer.

Thanks for viewing my work.

203/365: I attended a wedding in July (yes I'm THAT far behind in my posts) and the reception hall was wonderful. The photographer set up a photobooth at one end with lots of fun props and tons of embarassing shots were taken which of course have been posted all over facebook (+1 in comments). This is a bit different than my usual posts so I thought I'd use it for my photo of the day.

I was so pleased that I went the way I did this morning. I've taken this flower quite a few times and have made a complete mess of every photo; but finally, here it is.

Quite a large bird often seen in pairs. Even though its called a Senegal Coucal it is seen in other places in West Africa, especially The Gambia, where I saw this one. He quite happily sat on a fence right in front of me for a good while. They have such lovely striking red eyes!!

This is a new path right down the road from where we live that we went on over the weekend. It was really nice and exhausting too but definitely a place I want to revisit come spring! I know right now it doesn't look like much, but it was really nice to walk it!

A Bold, Stoic and Solid Piece of Rock.

Created eons ago by glaciers chafing away at the granite wall for millenia, the majestic El Capitan is a great monument iconic of Yosemite National Park.

It may have been a well photographed subject, but that didn't stop me from having another go at it.

Along the calm section of the Merced river a few hundred feet from the road, from the people, from the cars rushing by, I managed to find a place of forgiving solitude, a rare blissful state.

So calm and so serence; I could have spent the entire day there.

A Girl Dreaming

A poem by Katie Gabrielle

What thoughts race across

The sleepy lids of those

Who dream with eyes wide open

Never closed

Where Imagination and Reality Meet

Where colors look like fireflies

Across the evening skies

And flowers taste like candy

A little girl races across the night

Believing in what no one ever could

Wishing can make it so

Dreams are the wishes we wish

When we are awake

Little girl dreaming

And if you wish long enough

Your little girl dreams will come true

This is only a typical Luan portrait but for me it is really a minor miracle. For the last 2 weeks Luan hasn't allowed me to take photos of him, no chance. This cat knows all tricks when it comes to avoiding he camera. Yesterday I finally managed to take two or three photos of him with the help of Fynn who distracted his brother for a few seconds. Hooray !
