City Bus - South Bank, London, UK
A forgotten signal of the former New York and Greenwood Lake right of way at DB interlocking sits dormant as two trains on the High Line portion of the Northeast Corridor in the meadowlands zip by each other on the last night of summer. The last passenger train to ever knock down this signal was September 20, 2002, and the last train to ever knock it down was shortly after (NS H02).

OK - So truth be told, I released this for a bit a month ago and then pulled it because the timing was just not appropriate. I've decided to release it today in honor of our president's son and the current administration jumping to hast with lifting the ban on the US importation of animal parts acquired through the hunting of big game (elephants and lions) in Africa. This smells of the Trump, Jr. and even though the orange haired one has since put a halt to the lifting of the ban I thought it appropriate given it never should have gone to that point in the first place. So, in the honor of the Trumps, I'd like to offer Trump, Jr. a job, something at his level of human understanding and compassion. Trump, Jr. this job is for you!! I also hope that when the Dept. of Justice is finished with him this will be the only job he'll be able to get.
(Edited 20 Nov to clarify that it was the administration (U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service), not Trump that wanted to lift the ban. Trump is currently weighing the facts, ha!)

The back story on Shoot the Freak - Live Human Target (yes, this really was a place):
I had never been to Coney Island in Brooklyn, New York but the Aquarium was near by and back in 2005 we decided to make a day of it with the kids. It wasn't too cold so a little walk on the famous boardwalk seemed like a good idea. It was during this walk that I came across Shoot the Freak. A boardwalk paint ball shooting attraction that operated from 2000 until its demolition demise in 2010. A real person, referred to as "the Freak" ran about and you shot him with paint-balls. (I'm not kidding, google it) Thankfully it was still closed from the winter with it's pristine look, just waiting for the 2005 season to open. I took two photo shots, one close and one back a bit. At the time, I was just starting with PS 3.0 (I think) and a few other filter type effects and I processed the up close shot. I've always enjoyed the rather macabre shot and it was one of my first posts when I joined Flickr (see the original post in the first comment.) Recently I was in the old folders and came across the originals to "Shoot the Freak." I decided to play a little with the further back shot, funny how I liked the tight crop back then but backing up just a bit, I think I like the composition much better and my processing tastes have changed some over the years.
Dear friends, I wish I had more time for the wonderful world of your photos and sharing my own visual discoveries of the amazing world around us. This was one of the gorgeous sunsets when I was overloaded with work again, and could look at the magic of the evening sky only through my window. But it was so wonderful that I had to grab my camera and try to capture at least a tiny framed area of the magnificent sky seen from my balcony.
I have to sincerely thank all of you who warmly encouraged me to not disappear completely from Flickr and left small friendly reminders here and there. I hope that my current tight multi-project schedule won't last forever, and that I will be able to switch to things and creative projects of my own that allows more time for things that I truly enjoy and love.
The light, beauty, and inspiration from this wonderful scenery I wanted to share with you all.

I know the eclipse was so yesterday's news cycle but... As seen from my deck which unfortunately was NOT on the path of totality. Looking forward to 2024! Not much I could do with so many orange disks so I decided to go with a kind of technical documentary presentation.
Spirit of the north...
It was 2 days trip, last weekend. This is the very beautiful island famous as the site of the Konevsky Monastery. It is located off the southwestern shore of Lake Ladoga.
In the Middle Ages, the island was considered holy by the Finnish tribes who particularly revered a huge boulder in the shape of a horse's skull, weighing more than 750 tons.
This boulder is known as "Steed-Stone" and gives its name to the island.
Absolutely wonderful place with fantastic atmosphere. I fell in love with this place 😍 Also the weather was so warm +28C and it was awesome.
Notice: Ladoga is the largest lake entirely in Europe and the 14th largest freshwater lake by area in the world.
Konevitsa on ortodoksisesta Konevitsan luostarista kuulu saari Laatokan länsirannan tuntumassa Sortanlahden edustalla.
Luostarin perustamisesta kertovien lähteiden mukaan siellä oli karjalaisten pakanallinen uhripaikka Hevoskivi. Saaren nykyinen suomenkielinen nimi johtuvat Hevoskivestä tai ehkä saaren oletetusta alkuperäisestä karjalaisesta nimestä Hevossaari.
Munkkeja asuu saarella noin 20 henkeä.
Saarelle pääsee uudella katamaraanilla Sortanlahdesta (n. 15 minuutin matka).

From the high point of the escarpment , looking backwards to where I just came from,
The great circuit walk at the Quiraing on the Isle of Skye.
The walk is magical, because each part of it is unique.
(4 shots stitch using ICE)
Weather was ever changing. Sometimes sun would come out giving opportunity for a better photos.
The Quiraing is the largest landslide in Britain, but it is not a torrential rain-induced landslides. It’s part of something much larger in size.
The weight of all volcanic rock, formed 50million years ago, slowly took its toll on the weaker Jurassic sedimentary rock below, which fractured and broke under the strain, and volcanic rock have been slipped down the hillside; this process is still going.

My son-in-law James and I hit the trail for an early morning hike to Boynton Canyon. The trail was quite rugged. It snaked through a number of rocky gulches and ravines that were littered with boulders and rocks..
The going was tough at times, and I had to keep my eyes on the ground to keep from tripping over the smaller rocks that were littered about like children's toys in a messy nursery. The rewards were great though, as the colors and rock formations were other-worldly.
The downside is, my hip has been killing me ever since--as they say, no pain no gain. When I look at this photo, I see faces in the rocks.

The common eider (Somateria mollissima) is a large (50–71 cm (20–28 in) in body length) sea-duck that is distributed over the northern coasts of Europe, arctic North America, north-eatern Siberia, Iceland and Greenland. It breeds in Arctic and some northern temperate regions.
It can fly at speeds up to 113 km/h (70 mph).
This bird is really amazing and I'm so happy with the photo I got from it.
