Abu Dhabi is the capital and the second most populous city of the United Arab Emirates and also capital of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, the largest of the UAE's seven emirates. Abu Dhabi lies on a T-shaped island jutting into the Persian Gulf from the central western coast. Its focus on oil exports and commerce is reflected by the skyline’s modern towers and shopping megacenters.

Going to see The Sheikh Zayed Mosque or Grand Mosque was the main reason to visit Abu Dhabi. After luckily having a chance to see The Mausoleum at The Taj Mahal a few years ago, I'd been googling for other such wonderful structures in countries from the 'ain't been there yet' list.
With its 82 domes and the gorgeous marble inlay throughout, The Grand Mosque was so much more spectacular than I imagined. Like a crazy tourist I battled the 47°c daytime heat to have a good (yet totally enjoyable) look around. The taxi driver reliably informed me that it was cooler on this day compared with the week before. : S

Sheikh Zayed Bridge in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The bridge connects the mainland to the island of Abu Dhabi and the new main gateway over the Maqtah channel. Interestingly, the bridge’s architect was a woman, Zaha Hadid, and the bridge was named after the country's principal architect and former president Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan
