The design of the Sheikh Zayed Mosque has been inspired by both Mughal and Moorish mosque architecture, particularly the Badshahi Mosque in Lahore and the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca being direct influences. The dome layout and floorplan of the mosque was inspired by the Badshahi Mosque and the architecture was inspired by both Mughal and Moorish design. Its archways are quintessentially Moorish and its minarets classically Arab. The design of the Mosque can be best described as a fusion of Arab, Mughal and Moorish architecture.
The Mosque is large enough to accommodate 40,000 worshippers. The main prayer hall can accommodate up to 9,000 worshippers. Two rooms next to the main prayer hall, with a 1,500-capacity each, are for the exclusive use of women.
There are four minarets on the four corners of the mosque which rise about 115 m (377 ft) in height. There are 57 domes covering the outside yard and the main building as well. The domes are decorated with white Bianco marble from Pietrasanta, Italy and the interior decoration is made of white marble from Laas, Italy. The courtyard is paved with floral marble designs and measures about 17,000 m2 (180,000 sq ft).

اللهم أغفر لهُ وأرحمهُ وعافهِ واعفوا عنهُ , وأكرم نزلهُ ووسع مدخلهُ
وأغسله بالماء والثلج والبرد , ونقهِ من الذنوب و الخطايا كما ينقى الثوب الأبيضُ
من الدنس , اللهم أوسع عليهِ قبره , وفرش قبره من فراش الجنة ,
اللهم اجعل قبره روضة من رياض الجنة ولا تجعلها حفرةً من حفر النارِ يا رب العالمين , اللهم أبدله داراً خيراً من داره وأهلاً خيراً من أهله وزوجاً خيراً من زوجه , وأدخله الجنة وأعذه من عذاب القبر ومن عذاب النار .
اللهم عاملهُ بما أنت أهله ولا تعامله بما هو أهله , اللهم أجزهُ عن الإحسان إحساناً وعن الإساءةِ عفواً وغفراناً .
اللهم إن كان محسناً فزد في حسناته وإن كان مسيئاً فتجاوز عنه يا رب العالمين .
اللهم أدخلهُ الجنة من غير مناقشة حساب ولا سابقةِ عذاب , اللهم آنسهُ في وحدته

اللهم إن هذا عبدك وابن عبدك وابن أمتك خرج من روح الدنيا وسعتها ومحبوبيها وأحبائه فيها إلى ظلمة القبر وما هو لاقيه , كان يشهدُ ألا إله إلا أنت وأن محمداً عبدك ورسولك وأنت أعلم به , اللهم إنه نزل بك وأنت خير منزولٌ به وأصبح فقيراً إلى رحمتك وأنت غنيٌ عن عذابه آته برحمتك رضاك وقه فتنة القبر وعذابه وآته برحمتك الأمن من عذابك حتى تبعثه إلى جنتك يا أرحم الراحمين .

One of the largest mosques in the world.
External dimensions 224 x 174m, space for 40,000 worshippers. Cost 545 million US dollars.
The mosque is adorned with 7 chandeliers imported from Germany. Made of gold-plated brass + stainless steel, they are flower-shaped and decorated with thousands of different colored Swarovski crystals.
The largest chandelier was built by the Faustig company from Munich. Diameter 10m, height 15m. It is considered the largest chandelier in the world.

Die Moschee schmücken 7 Kronleuchter aus Deutschland importiert. Aus vergoldetem Messing + Edelstahl, sind blumenförmig mit tausenden verschiedenfarbigen Swarovski-Kristallen besetzt.
Der größte Kronleuchter wurde von der Firma Faustig aus München gebaut. Durchmesser 10m, Höhe 15m. Er gilt er als größter Kronleuchter der Welt.

Rising majestically from beautifully manicured gardens and visible from each of the bridges joining Abu Dhabi Island to the mainland, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque represents an impressive welcome to the city. Conceived by the first president of the UAE, Sheikh Zayed, and marking his final resting place, the mosque accommodates 41,000 worshippers and is one of the few in the region open to non-Muslims.
With more than 80 marble domes on a roofline held aloft by over 1000 pillars and punctuated by four 107m-high minarets, Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is a masterpiece of modern Islamic architecture and design. Over 100,000 tons of pure white Greek and Macedonian marble were used in its construction. Delicate floral designs inlaid with semi-precious stones, such as lapis lazuli, red agate, amethyst, abalone, jasper and mother-of-pearl, decorate a variety of marbles and contrast with the more traditional geometric ceramic details.
While it includes references to Mamluk, Ottoman and Fatimid styles, the overwhelming impression of the breath-taking interior is contemporary and innovative, with three steel, gold, brass and crystal chandeliers filling the main prayer hall with shafts of primary-coloured light. The chandeliers, the largest of which weighs approximately 12 tons, sparkle with Swarovski crystals and shine with 40kg of 24-carat galvanised gold.
One of the prayer hall's most impressive features is the world’s largest loomed carpet. The medallion design with elaborate arabesque motifs took 1200 craftsmen two years to complete, half of which was spent on hand knotting the 5700 sq metres of woollen thread on a cotton base. That translates as two billion, 268 million knots!
Visitors are welcome to enter the mosque except during prayer times. A worthwhile free 45- to 60-minute guided tour (in English and Arabic) helps explain some fundamentals of the Islamic religion while pointing out some of the stylistic highlights of the interior. Mosque etiquette requires all visitors to wear long, loose-fitting, ankle-length trousers or skirts, long sleeves and a headscarf for women. Those not dressed appropriately are asked to go to the basement, where hooded abeyyas and kanduras can be borrowed for free.
Sheikh Zayed’s mausoleum is on the approach to the mosque entrance. Prayers are continually recited by attendants here. While photographs of the mausoleum are not permitted, visitors are free to photograph all other parts of the mosque, but sensitivity should be shown towards those in prayer.

Abu Dhabi is one of the richest countries in the world. The Sheikh Zayed mosque is so beautiful. I had a wonderful stay there. It is a really great place for photographers.
