Marking the north limits of the Ophel rise was the imposing southern wall of the Temple Mount. Before the wall was a broad multi-terraced esplanade accessible via several flights of shallow steps. Upon this esplanade stood the Tomb of Huldah, a Jewish Prophetess. Her name is also used for the double and triple gates which provide entry to the tunnels leading into and atop the Temple Mount. Together, these five archways formed the Huldah Gates, and served as the south entrance to the temple complex. It should be said that such a place of reverence for Huldah’s Tomb is noteworthy considering her role in admonishing prophecies of the coming destruction of Jerusalem to King Josiah, shortly before the Babylonian siege and subsequent exile.
Here in the landscape piece, I sought to distinguish the prominent role of the esplanade in marking the ceremonial entrance to the Temple Mount, by distinguishing its paving stones in a way that is not simply unique to this piece, but to my entire body of work. For that reason, I covered the entire surface in 2x2 decorated tiles with map patterns. There’s just something about the assorted gray city blocks interwoven with tan streets that, in my opinion, quite convincingly represents the sort of tiled glazing one might have found upon such a distinguished terrace!

Housesteads Roman Fort and Hadrian's Wall, Northumberland, England, UK. Hadrian's Wall was a defensive fortification in the Roman province of Britannia, begun in AD 122 in the reign of the emperor Hadrian. It ran from the banks of the River Tyne near the North Sea to the Solway Firth on the Irish Sea, and was the northern limit of the Roman Empire, north of which were the lands of the northern Ancient Britons, including the Picts. However, it is a common misconception that Hadrian's Wall marks the boundary between England and Scotland. In fact Hadrian's Wall lies entirely within England and has never formed the Anglo-Scottish border. While it is less than 0.6 miles south of the border with Scotland in the west, at Bowness-on-Solway, in the east it is as much as 68 miles away.
It had a stone base and a stone wall, with mile castles with two turrets in between. There was a fort about every five Roman miles. From north to south, the wall comprised a ditch, wall, military way and a vallum, which was another ditch with adjoining mounds. It is thought the mile castles were staffed with static garrisons, whereas the forts had fighting garrisons of infantry and cavalry. In addition to the wall's defensive military role, its gates were primarily customs posts.
A significant portion of the wall still stands and can be followed on foot along the adjoining Hadrian's Wall Path. The largest Roman artefact anywhere, it runs a total of 73 miles in northern England. Regarded as a British cultural icon, Hadrian's Wall is one of Britain's major ancient tourist attractions. It was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987. In comparison, the Antonine wall, thought by some to be based on Hadrian's wall, was not declared a World Heritage site until 2008.

Having been trapped in Tolono for hours, CN A407s crew is anxious to get going thanks to the delay. All the switching and the crew change was done in just over an hour, and before long, the SD70 duo was moving north out of Leverett Junction. After two years of drought the Pan Handle of Texas and neighboring States were blowing away in huge clouds of dust.
The decade of the thirties was a roaring non-stop for the wealthy. Not so much for the dirt farmers of the west. Already struggling to live day to day the Dust Bowl blew away what little they had. For the poor this period triggered the largest migration of America people and largest redistribution wealth up until todays modern times.
