I just finished wrapping Ryan's big Christmas gift. Used almost a whole roll of paper to do it! When I stood back to look at my handiwork, I noticed the paper reads, "Happy Birthday". :(
Happy Holidays everyone. Best wishes to you and yours.

'The stockings were hung' On Black
Photos inspired by the utata filtered project.
I was struggling on what I could do for this project while I was staring at some Christmas lights I wasn't going to hang up. I then remembered some clear cellophane wrapping paper with purple snowflakes...and an idea was born. I could a)participate in the project and b) shoot a holiday theme and then I couldn't be accused of being a total grinch this holiday season seeing as I wasn't planning on shooting anything holiday related.
Shots were taken of christmas lights through the cellophane wrapping paper with purple snowflakes.
It was also an interesting experiment in focus and dof. Most of these shots were taken from approximately the same distance with the only difference a change in aperture (and corresponding change in shutter speed) and focus point. There are about 100 shots from this set but I won't bore you with all of them.

During our quick getaway in Bintan last week, we were inspired by the beauty of the seaside. We decided to pay tribute to the tropical climate by creating a wrapping that represents the sun, the sand and the sea. We chose florist paper because it is ideal for making perfect pleats, depicting waves on the beach. We also decided to use shiny golden stickers to brighten our gift like how sand glistens under the sun. Summer Journeys... chill out!

This is a sample of a kaleidoscope tessellation requested by, and created for, a friend (Gina) I met here on Flickr. She makes candy wrappers, gift wrap, bookmarks, etc., but her site is no longer online, so I'm not sure where to get her products any longer.
Only sample tiles are available for viewing since I used her original picture instead of one of my own or one from Flickr with a CC license.
Chicago Printed String Company dates its origins back to 1898 to a company founded by Aron Weiner outside Prague in what is now the Czech Republic. The business made cotton bands that surrounded hats. Weiner moved to Chicago in 1912 – 1913 and founded Chicago Printed String in 1915. Its business was now advertising tape: cotton yarn imprinted with a company name used for binding, which it called Print-Ad-String. RIBBONETTE featured material comparable to silk and satin ribbons. The company moved to what became 65,000 square feet of space at 2300 W. Logan Blvd. in 1929. By 1960, it was reported the company produced 600 million yards of decorative ribbons and 210,000 reams of wrapping paper. To show its diversification, the company changed its name to CPS Industries in 1965. Shortly thereafter, it moved its production facilities to Tennessee and, two years later, was sold to Papercraft Corporation. Faced with the wrecker’s ball, the building was saved in 2004 and currently houses a fitness center.
...for my little sister! She turns 19 tomorrow.
Actually, the painting is a belated Christmas present, oops. I started painting it in December, and I FINALLY finished it today. I haven't painted in a long time!
The wrapped present is her *actual* birthday present, a book called Wreck This Journal.
Wall-E peeks out from a pile of discarded wrapping paper. Poor little guy got buried in the chaos and excitement!
