What my desk looked like on 23.06.2013

So many displays, so little time.

workspace inside my truck.I thought that it looked nice,in it's organised chaos.

This message was sent from a mobile device.

Arrrr finally got around to cleaning up my work area, haha.

It is soooo messy, and I have tons of projects on the go. No time for a break!

My work table, set up to make some nice pencil boxes while taking shots of the process. It's actually a partially improvised work table: the work surface is an oak table top finished in shellac (you can see how nicely it reflects stuff, can't you?) that I made some time ago, but I haven't gotten around to finishing the legs -- so for now it rests on the back of a chair and on the window ledge.

Really dark purple sweet peas.

Of course, this is Day 14 of the workshop, but not really Day 14. I am at the beginning of December. I have a few lighting challenges in the room - the desk is dark, the beading cabinet is a black hole, so is area 5-6. I also replaced a few light bulbs in the lamps.

I started searching for the task lighting for the desk back in October. I had a drafting light, the sort of extended neck lamp that clamps to a desk. The desk doesn't really have a good place to clamp it, though, and the original clamp is broken so I would need to find a new one. They are hard to find. I looked at little fluorescent lamps and LED lights that would stick to the bottom of the shelf over the desk area, but the light was thin and cold. I wanted an incandescent light there. I found the perfect light when I was working on the TV cabinet - there was some sort of display light screwed to the top of the cabinet and it had an oblong incandescent light bulb with an opaque metal shade to direct light (very important - the light is eye level and if there was no shade on the side toward me, the light would shine directly into my eyes). It was perfect! I unscrewed it and moved it over to the desk.

Another item related to light that I really wanted for my workroom is a light box. It is very helpful to have a lightbox to transfer patterns in embroidery, and during the workshop, I realized I could use a email coupon I had to order one on sale online and now I have one!

I also decided it had to be fairy lights in the beading cabinet. Being Christmas time, I had a lot to choose from! To light up Areas 4-6, I put up my little Christmas tree and and their lights. When it is not Christmas, I will put up little artificial topiaries with white lights there. Also put my aromatherapy lamp there and a nice fir-scented candle in a brass holder I found.

JOURNAL PROMPT: What does light mean to you? Are you someone who needs lots of light or are you happier with ambient lighting? Do long winter evenings make you miserable or do you find summer unsettling?

Oh, I need lots and lots of light. I need both task lighting and ambient light in order to be happy. I like pools of light when I am not working on a specific task, but otherwise, I like a lot of it. The natural light for this room is really good, probably the best in the house. At night, it turns into a dark pit.

I love winter light which is very thin and blue here. In the fall, we have golden light. Summer is very clear light. I don't mind long nights at all, sometimes the summer does get to be a bit much for me, but I appreciate the morning light especially. Incandescent light is important to me in the winter when our light is so blue. I like having the warmth of incandescent light then. I do use the more energy efficient lights overhead, but I like to have incandescent light in the lamps to get some balance.

with its ridiculous roll of cardboard on the back beam.

i have over 30 yards of warp on here.

its a maycomber loom, linen warp, set at 2epi and the tapestries i'm currently working on are 6 inches wide.

My sweet little work space all tidied up! I love my desks. The one on the left, was my grandmother's grandmother's desk. You could imagine how old it is considering my grandmother will be 94 next month. The lady's writing desk, on the right, I bought from my neighbor was in her late 80s. I love them :)

Now I just need to get motivated and create again....

This is my new workdesk at the University of Copenhagen

PMG is being a little goofy at the moment, and doesn't want to let me save pictures in Chrome. So, since I refuse to use IE, heres a screenshot of my workspace at the moment. I'm revamping the SIAR for what is probably the 50th time, hopefully with better results this time.

I know I've been gone for a while, I got sucked into the world of modding the elder scrolls and fallout, and multiple projects have been demanding my attention. I'm hoping if I can get a good enough PMG build of the SIAR done, I will be able to 3d model it in Nifscope, throw some textures on there, and make it into a Fallout New Vegas mod.

closer view of my workstation. The lower tray slides out and give me plenty of room for the keyboard and / or papers. Also note the mail sorter on the open door and the undercabinet light.

I haz a busy.

You should see the amount of paper out of frame.

I had to take photo of the clean desk, unique look. This is the space where I do all crafts and work if I had to do something at home.
