This also took some time, because I made a last attempt to resurrect Poor Chair. I gave up for good. I shimmed up the side and put a slipcover on it. I cannot begin to estimate the hours I worked on that chair. At one point, I had a knee on a pry bar shoved into the industrial-strength spring to keep it from collapsing, a drill in one hand trying to get a corner bracket into the wood support and the other hand trying to keep the screw oriented upwards. It sucked.

Temperature: this is the warmest spot in the house. In the winter, that's a good thing! In the summer, I run the overhead ceiling fan and the AC. Temperature is not really a problem in this room.

Food and Drink: Treats! Let there be treats! I have a gift pack of hot chocolate mixes and a selection of tasty popcorn in bags from the Popcorn Factory in a pretty tin on the bookshelf.

Mental Stimulation: early on, I found a place on the desk for my favorite CD's (Handel is best, but also Harmonia Mundi put out a selection of 30 CD's of Baroque music this year! For something more modern, I have a selection of jazz as well. I like cooking and cleaning to Led Zeppelin, but not for crafting). Also, I got rid of the big TV which I never use but I do use my little portable DVD player and made a place for that in my desk. Currently watching my "Deadliest Catch" DVD's (crab fishing in Alaska) and Glenn Gould's CBC broadcast collection! Can't imagine what Glenn Gould would think about "Deadliest Catch". Can't imagine the crab fishermen would be very interested in Glenn Gould - maybe as an interesting person, but they all seem like country western or classic rock fans from what they show on the program.

Safety: Hmmm. There is a definite shortage of grounded, three-prong outlets in this room. Only one of the three outlets in the room is grounded. The rest are polarized type. I have to run an extension cord across the room to use the sewing machines. My laptop and computer printer are on the grounded outlet and I have to admit I have an extended strip running off of that outlet. Also, I had to run an extension cord to light the bead cabinet and the little light on top of it. It was getting to be a pain to lean over and unplug all the fairy lights, so I got a "Handy Switch" to put on those cords and I can just use a switch to flip them on and off instead of actually unplugging them.

Health: I did need a footstool. I had a wonderful footstool that also stored tools that marched itself off to another section in the house and lived there for a while. Retrieved that!

JOURNAL PROMPT: What brings you a sense of comfort? Think back to when you were little. What made you feel safe and loved? What makes a house feel like home to you and makes somewhere you can relax?

When I was little, I loved the house we lived in. It was 4101 Washburn Avenue North in Minneapolis. It was a stucco house like this one, two story. The best part was a breakfast nook with lots of light and windows that opened so you could hear the birds singing in the morning. I lived in the attic with its little shuttered window in the front and lots of pine paneling. The basement had black and white checkerboard tiles and big old mechanical bowling machine that was a lot of fun. I have a lot of birds here, too, and often hear birds singing in the morning. My white rabbit lives in my breakfast nook but I often sit with her and we have a good time snacking on carrot and celery sticks together in the afternoon. The list of things the house needs done sprains my brain but I am not dead yet, so I will get them done as soon as I can.

I haven't had an actual desk of my own in almost four years. Not that this is much of a step up, but it's a workspace! I had 30" of unclaimed wall, so I figured this unit would fit the bill.

It's a stock Ikea PS Laptop Workstation, but to spruce it up a little bit and create an impact-dampening surface for my laptop, I added some cork to the surfaces using this self adhesive 18" x 4' roll of cork lining.

It had to be mounted over the moulding, so it actually sits on two Ikea shelf brackets, and is secured in the back by three toggle bolts via holes drilled in the rear panel.

... in crisis. It needs a bit of help right here, but it's not too bad...

Whoa! 23 views? Who are you people?

The sticker on the keyboard is upside down.

My Workspace and a part of my collection

This is probably a 1970-1973 VW 1200L/1300-Series.

Amsterdam-N., Zamenhofstraat, Nov. 6, 2013.

My workspace sang to me me this evening. So I took a photo of it before I cleaned it up. I think it's the Jimmy Hendrix mouse pad. I just got it back yesterday.

Harmon Karden Sound Sticks sound as good as they look.

My totally cluttered workspace!

Back up view of the complete mess. My worktable is 2' x 4' - to give you a sense of size of space.

Logitech wireless keyboard...Microsoft wireless mouse...MOMA calculator...Butt-Man tape dispenser.

This is the best seat in the train, for working. Nobody sits opposite, so there is no leg clash.

Behind the laptop, is a pair of noise-cancelling headphones.

Just out of shot top left is a coat hook.

We recently started receiving these RocketFish iPad Stands in at Best Buy. It will hold your iPad in portrait or landscape view, and even rotate upwards and back.

The credenza is reserved for photos of my kids and their artwork.

Phone cradle, Dymo label printer, electric stapler, lots of Staples pens...all within reach.

Workspace is a co-working space in Vancouver's Gastown district.

Formerly the formal dining room...

That on the right is a floppy drive and a bunch of disks I was putting in my hard drive. Goodbye, legacy format clutter. :)

Updated version.

My workspace, with my new-to-me 20" Cinema Display.

It's amazing how much you can learn about a person with a single photograph. For example, I obviously have no problem with clutter. ;-)

(Man I need to toss some of this junk.)

I'm a bit of a gadget nut.

wanted to take a picture of my desk while it was still clean...

It's where I do my writing. So, I'm pretty much here whenever I'm not at my real job. (Or when I'm with my girlfriend.)

Behind the desk chair is my plush leather reading chair. Above the shelf is a large framed print of Raphael's "School of Athens."

The six big big big Workspace prints finally went up this morning and I stopped by Rag & Bone to have a look -- most impressive! They're enormous! (About seven feet wide.)

The printing (by Eric Recktenwald) is fantastic.

Once the crowd gets back from PULSE Miami, we'll get information on the wall about the prints.

But stop by if you're in Soho and take a look. (Mercer btw Spring & Prince)

My new desk/work space, I still need to sort a lot of elements but now ive got a place to do it.

This is where I currently work... pretty cluttered. I have to clear room on the desk when I want to draw/paint. I'm going shopping for a drawing/painting desk tomorrow. :)

Well, I finally got my workspace cleared off so I only have one project on it at the moment. It gets difficult when I have fibers pieces and metalwork all crammed on there.

The shelf is new -- I needed something to put little bits and things on while working. Actually this piece is special to me as it represents special women in my life and the connection of family.

Each square has a special piece of jewelry from either my mother or grandmothers which is attached to a piece of celadon colored grass paper. On the floor of the shelf I have two massive gold charm bracelets and a crystal heart from my maternal grandmother.

The shelf itself was given to me by a cherished neighbor -- who actually attended high school with my mother back in Ohio (they never knew each other) and graduated only one year ahead of her.
