This corner had previously been filled with four large boxes of all of my old sets which were just gathering dust. It's been a long process of cleaning and sorting the parts but I finally cleared out enough space to get a dedicated LEGO desk, and it certainly beats building everything sitting on my bed.

Added the table, which is a variation of the old computer stand.

I haven't had an actual desk of my own in almost four years. Not that this is much of a step up, but it's a workspace! I had 30" of unclaimed wall, so I figured this unit would fit the bill.

It's a stock Ikea PS Laptop Workstation, but to spruce it up a little bit and create an impact-dampening surface for my laptop, I added some cork to the surfaces using this self adhesive 18" x 4' roll of cork lining.

It had to be mounted over the moulding, so it actually sits on two Ikea shelf brackets, and is secured in the back by three toggle bolts via holes drilled in the rear panel.

This is my semi-new workspace! Before, my desk was L-shaped and I had two areas that I could pull up a chair. The problem with this arrangement was that I'm a little lazy and disorganized by nature, so the end opposite of my computer became a place to stack my junk! What to do? Grab a round saw and cut off the last two feet (didn't take the desk outside...it was too heavy!), swing it around to the front, and attach. Wha-lah!! U-shaped workspace! Okay, now, don't laugh...but, this is CLEAN! And because everything is within reach, I am managing to keep it relatively so! I love my new space!

I love that Lava lamp on the right.

I know, it's a mess. I'v been living tiny rooms in shared flats for the last ten years and I am sick of it. My current flatmate told me several times in the past weeks that he wanted to leave so I could rent the hole flat and move my Lego to a bigger room with proper storage and all. I figured cleaning up wouldn't be worth the trouble if it's only for a few days, but he postponed again and again. Starting September I will begin my apprenticeship as a carpenter and since I am a slow builder and will have significantly less time then I want to get as much building done as I can now, so the mess will only get bigger for the rest of the month.

Workspace at my room in 2008 summer

This is my current workspace, located in my bedroom. The shelves/desk are Broder from IKEA, and the chair is an AK from Best Buy.

The main tower (bottom left) which is custom built runs the 4 bottom monitors. The old Toshiba laptop is connected to the upper left, and the Ubuntu machine or the XP tower is connected to the upper right. The XP tower is only temporary while it is being reformatted.

The two towers and two laptops are all connected using Synergy with the main desktop as the server.

The specs on my main computer are:

2.8gHz Dual Core AMD

4GB DDR2 RAM

160 GB 7200 WD and 640GB 7200 RPM Seagate

2x nvidia 8800GT 512meg graphics cards

Windows Vista 32bit

My workspace which doubles as my bedroom. (Or is it my bedroom which doubles as a workspace? ;) )

Within sight are 4 Desk Tops with over 14 cores (4x 6x 2x 2x) of combined x86 computing power along with 2 notebooks, an iPad and an iPod Touch. Three scanners (Photographic, Book & Sheet Feed) along with a wide body HP photographic printer (19" wide) and 2 smaller HP ink jets....

this is reasonably tidy...

Finally got my new home office set up and it's looking great!

After eight years of living and working out of a 10' x 11' bedroom with a shitty vertical (albeit functional) desk that forced me to:

a. sleep where i work

b. use my bed as workspace

c. work where i sleep

i have finally converted one of the extra rooms into a home office. this is a big deal as what it cost wasn't just a chunk of unearned commission to room and board and home depot, but rather, nearly nine grand a year in roommate income.

the benefits, however, at age 36, seem well worth the price.

for the first time, i have an office.

A little trip to the Portland Ikea to pick up office furniture and viola! I have a real workspace now! Large for details.

This is the more efficient approach I've adopted recently -- I basically keep the monitor at a fixed height that works great for both sitting and standing, and then just put a plastic bin and wooden shelf under the keyboard / mouse to raise them when I want to stand. Very crude, but very effective.

Ergonomically, the only two other things I've done are to make sure I'm taking care of my back -- using a pair of shoes with good arch support, and having a cheap bar stool that I got on Craigslist, that I can lean back against as a way of changing up my posture when I'm standing. Like I said...crude, but really effective (and basically free).

A minha é beeeemmmm mais bagunçada que isso...

I moved my desk stuff downstairs to the front room with Katy's desk. I'm trying to keep it simple.

Being in Afghanistan is like the worse 9 to 5 you can get. When life gives you lemons....

Figured I'd try to be organized even in the ruralist of places. Started by building me a desk, then using the wall of my neighbor (it's a tent with partitions) decided I'd start hanging up my most important things for quick and easy access.

I thought I would get in on the work space photos that seem to be newly popular. I am working on my Masters thesis so this is procratination, pure and simple. My workspace changes many times a day, but here it is for Wed AM. Student ghetto
