In 1934, my great-aunt undertook a health cure in Bavaria where Sebastian Kneipp found his final resting place. The management of the spa house had no trouble putting "indolent seniors" to work lighter tasks, and Auntie Sophia recorded it all for posterity.

When I started working on this snapshot, I wasn't planning on anything special, so I kept editing and making touches here and there until I was finally satisfied. This work depicts a gentle whisper effect because a caring, loving word can substitute a hundred touches!

Once the latest-and-greatest, premier intermodal train power on the BNSF, the Dash 9s have since been demoted to more mundane tasks. Warbonnet #773 is seen at University with USTAEDU5-10A, almost blocking our view of an out-bound grainer leaving Northtown Yard.

Hi everyone,

I have returned from my time in Kenya and it was a rich and productive time in terms of photography. I'm currently going through thousands of images and will be posting a wide range over time.

For now, I'll leave you with a painted turtle captured earlier this summer.

Have a great weekend everyone!

A lot of new work at Durlston Country park near Swanage with new art work being added and an adventure area being built for children. This is another fun shot of one of the recent additions.

Taken at Bolton le Sands this shows a January sunset from Bolton le Sands, a quiet setting of the sun.

Taken, along with many other shots, a couple of years ago

A pair of remote control SD40-2's go about their business sorting out cars at Northtown Yard in Minneapolis Minnesota on a nice sunny day.

Now that winter has waned I may be one of the few around here to lament that. So here is a shot from a cold day several months back that I like as it captures a bit of everything: the classic local freight, the human element, the interesting interconnected track work, 'heritage' New England colors, and that wintery feel.

After NECR 611 got out of their way headed north the Mass Central Railroad local crew alighted from their single unit to line the switch at the south end of their property to enter the interchange track and swing east down to the small yard to drop off and pick up interchange to/from CSXT on this chilly afternoon. GP38-2 1751 (ex PC 7997 blt 7/72) looks sharp in her Boston and Maine inspired bluebird scheme that has has some historic relevance to a small portion of surving B&M trackage operated by the road though most of the line is comprised of the surviving south end of the former Boston and Albany Ware River branch that reached north from here to Winchendon.

Dr. Jones had finished her early morning surgery and dental cleaning and her first outpatient appointment was waiting for her in the exam room. Things were hopping: boarders checking out after the holidays, appointment book full, receptionist relaying messages from cat owners who had questions, technicians taking care of treatments for hospitalized patients and in the middle of all the activity, Dr. Jones found a moment of peace snuggling with Alex.

American Oystercatcher (Haematopus palliatus)

New Jersey

A reprocess and post of this older image..

This is the first image in a three image set, which will show this Oystercatchers mollusc feeding technique. Each image will tell a bit of the story...

The Oystercatchers long orange bill is not only for probing in the sand and mud, but is excellent at prying open molluscs like clams and mussels. I've read that some Oystercatchers have a more blunt shaped bill tip and will use it to smash open the shell of some molluscs species to get at its meat. Although I can't imagine the bill being strong enough to smash through this hardshell Cherrystone Clam.

When this Oystercatcher (pictured above) located a clam. It pryed it open, then worked it around a bit and sniped the adducter muscle (which opens and closes the clam) and split the clam in half exposing the clams soft edible tissues.

Lots of development work in progress at my backyard. Everyday there is a new scene.

Before the northbound Whittier Freight arrived at Brookman I was able to quickly get a shot of the tied down work train with the remnants of a rainbow in the sky. Unfortunately it was very short lived but nice while it lasted.
