I just want the snow to stop & the weather to warm up!

02-11-18 - trees

Library in the Winter, one of three that serve Burke Co., NC. This one is on 204 S. Kings Street, in Morganton, NC. Even though the little "thing-a-ma-giggie" sticks it in Salem. You cross the street and back in the olden days you were in a different community. But it's still all the same when it comes outta the wash. The others are in Valdese & Drexel, NC.

I just love this old library! Then ones in Charlotte where I'm from look like almost everything else...a square building. But this one is different. Don't quote me but I think it use to be a private home or at least an old private home stood on this site then was donated to the town to be used as the library.

"Ask Me Yesterday" by 'Tom Keifer' (lead singer of the 80s hairband 'Cinderella') His new cd is AWESOME.

He suffered from blown vocal cords just when Cinderella was making it big and they had to either stop or Tom would have no voice. He now lives in Nashville had many surgeries and it took 25 years to make this CD ~"The Way Life Goes"!! Glad he has his voice back!

Snow beneath whose chilly softness

Some that never lay

Make their first Repose this Winter

I admonish Thee

Blanket Wealthier the Neighbor

We so new bestow

Than thine acclimated Creature

Wilt Thou, Austere Snow?

Against my better judgement.

Winter solstice sunset from my mother's bungalow

Snow covered cones look like little wooden roses. Possibly from a Hemlock tree. Not sure what killed the tree, but the tiny cones are still lovely.

Acrylic on boxed canvas, painted all round. 11x14in. £350.

I went for the early morning misty look, just as the golden colours bathed the freshly fallen snow. Enforcing the orange theme has complemented this affect really well.

Just one critisism, the hole, left by the fallen tree takes the eye out of the picture. Maybe more fresh snow could correct this dark spot...?

Friends;

Has the year been a year where you’ve lost? I mean, have you lost TIME? Or was it an year you have won? Won TIME? Was 2013 a stretch of 365 days you loved more – or did you love less? Have you lost friends? Did you gain one or two friends? And I don’t mean ‘lost friends’ by death or accident, or war or disaster – I mean, loosing friends by not caring enough….

For Hero Husband and me, 2013 wasn’t the very best year, but it wasn’t – by far – the worst either. We therefore shall happily accommodate the New Year with joy, heartfelt thanks for all the good things we experienced and even for the not so good stuff we lived through (and which easily could have been even worse). I also take this opportunity to thank all of you very much for every thought you sent me, for every comment, for each and every smile you sent my way, for the faved uploads; you accorded me, although I did SO little last year, (priorities have shifted due to my discontent with Flickr…) many mails and private notes/letters/incredibly kind gifts/SMS/messages - you offered me so much more than I was able to give to you.

I can’t promise to be more present here but I WILL AND SHALL do more snail-mail because the huge amount of Christmas & New Year letters/cards was so tremendously uplifting that I shall do my best(est!) to accommodate as many personal messages to my beloved ones!

For the New Year 2014 I would like to send you these words of encouragements:

I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes.

Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You're doing things you've never done before, and more importantly, you're Doing Something.

So that's my wish for you and all of us, and my wish for myself. Make New Mistakes. Make glorious, amazing mistakes. Make mistakes nobody's ever made before. Don't freeze, don't stop, don't worry that it isn't good enough, or it isn't perfect, whatever it is: art, or love, or work or family or life.

Whatever it is you're scared of doing, Do it.

Make your mistakes, next year and forever.

(Neil Gaiman)

And for those who are achieving a bit more of good old perfection, just go with Winfrey Oprah, who said Cheers to a New Year and another chance to get it right

For my many French spoken friends I’ve got a real goodie (with a less than adequate translation):

Saluons ensemble cette nouvelle année qui vieillit notre amitié sans vieillir notre coeur.

(Victor Hugo) (Let’s welcome this New Year together, an year to age our friendship without aging our heart.)

Wishing you all A BLESSED & HAPPY NEW YEAR – UNE NOUVELLE ANNEE RICHEMENT BENIE ET PLEIN DE JOIE DE VIVRE – EIN GESEGNETES, GLÜCKLICHES NEUES JAHR

I captured this tree in Winter and purposely waited until the sun was just at the treetop. The B&W conversion was done in ON1 Photo 10 using a few color filters and some dynamic contrast. I really wanted to accent the flare and bring out the detail in the branches.

Man and his grandsons walk on a dry area of the Meramec River in St. Louis County.

Street trees along East 34th Avenue provide an snowy canopy of intricate interwoven branches. In two months this monotone of winter will be a riot of pink when the cherry blossoms on these same trees explode.

The first really sunny day of the year so I thought I'd get out for a walk. Starting from Wildboarclough I went round via Macclesfield Forest, up and over Shutlingsloe and back to the car. Spotted this barn roof echoing the colour of the trees and thought it looked a bit nice.

I just love the view from the balcony. Beautiful Winter kända april in high key
