My personal computing history: DOS>AppleIIgs>OS/2>NT4>WindowsXP/2000>Vista(for 18mo)>Red Hat WS3-5>Ubuntu>OSX [I still run Ubuntu & XP in a VM]

I switched from Linux to OSX, as it supported Adobe products(which I needed for photo editing). Plus I like Mac's now as as I can go into a command prompt & do *nix commands.

(I put up with Vista for 18 mo, I couldn't put up with crashing anymore -system was 4gb ram + ssd)

What I stare at, blankly, during the working day.

Rupert, Stan and Les were celebrating. Finally, after years of medieval darkness, the IT-department was about to allow MSN Messenger on the company computers.

The extremely comprehensive (and thick) pre-study evaluation report on the issue stated that:

"We (the Company) need to embrace this cutting-edge technology that MSN Messenger represents. We therefore suggest that a select few users - under supervision, of course - should be allowed to evaluate MSN Messenger for a period of no less than 2 years. This to avoid any potential system failures. To be able to perform the test, we need to upgrade their operating systems to Windows XP, but this should pose no difficulties. Another long-time testing period of Win XP is soon at an end, with promising results. This means that the testing phase of MSN Messenger should be able to commence Q3-2013 at the earliest."

"Freedom! Finally!", shouted Les as they left the office and went to the Stables Club to do some serious dancing.

An Apple Macbook running Windows XP

One of the themes on all windows xp computers.

This machine is broken in more ways than I can count!

One of our shiny new PCs. Pentium 4E 3Ghz.

Shot from Ken's Barber Shop in Boise Idaho from June of 2002. Shots taken with the Casio QV-3500EX.

So, seems it's been 30 days since I last tried a different network card in dad's computer I inherited and rely on every day. I decided not to use the card but it told me the hardware had changed and I needed to re-validate Windows. This is a fully legal copy of XP. I have the key but would have no idea where dad's disc is. What you see in the pic is what i've gotten every time i've tried to validate. And nothing happens. Additionally, when i've tried validation/activation/whatever via a browser, it never works - no matter what browser I use. I can be more specific if someone has questions.

I have spent the last month using a great deal of te little free time I have researching this issue and, in the last few days, decided I'd let it fail and see what happens - maybe it would offer a different method. Unfortunately, the method for validating didn't change, i'm just locked out. I have tried shutting down the ZoneAlarm firewall and anything else I could think of, all with the same results. Based on what i'm looking at and the stuff that happens when I tried using a browser, it seems to refuse to connect to something it needs to. And, come to find out, Windows can't be validated in safe mode. And now I've run out of experimentation time.

I don't care if I have to disable stuff and run "illegally" or if it can be fixed. I just need this computer to work.

Anyone know what to do?

below is the link to my homepage where there are a variety of ways to contact me if you don't have a flickr account. with no working computer, your best bet is my cell or email, twitter, or facebook, all of which also go to my cell.

S4 Graphic Pupils have just completed their Inventor modelling unit. Now they are required to translate the Inventor file to a format that Cinema 4D can recognise. The Inventor file is translated to a .3DS file [via Okino's PolyTrans software] and this is imported to C4D via their Engineering Add-On. A convoluted procedure we admit, but to get into CAD and photo-realistic visualisation requires a thorough knowledge of a multitude of file formats.

At last the true fun begins! C4D has an amazing render engine. The graphic you see here has been rendered solely in C4D with logos added in Photoshop. After a couple of years trying we believe we're on our way to tapping the potential that this software combination has to offer. Stay tuned for further experiments in Jordanhill pupil-based success.

We now have 12 quad-core server grade pcs in the department. The onboard AMD processors are 64bit capable, are clocked at 2.2GHz apiece, and have 512Mb graphics available on a dedicated PCI card. The 5GB Ram is not yet available to the system since we're currently stuck with Windows XP, which only 'sees' 3GB. An upgrade to Inventor 2010 and Windows 7 will allow us to harness the true clout of the available hardware.

Looks like we're gonna have to deliver!

Watch this space...

香港公园的广告牌都非常geek。。。。

On Google there was nothing to be found about the memory specifications of this new Asus EEE Touch (Top / 1602), so we decided to open her up for the benefit of all tweakers on internet.

Memory installed is 1x 1 GB so-dimm 533Mhz. Memory it can take is 667Mhz or PC6400 800Mhz so-dimm. In both cases the mainboard will revert to a busspeed of 533 MHz.

Modules tried: 2x 1GB 800Mhz and 2x 2GB 667Mhz. Both worked flawlessy under Windows XP en Ubuntu 8.1 Easypeasy 1.0, but both OS'es can only address 2 gigabytes of memory. We decided to put in 1x 2GB so-dimm 667MHz and left it at that.

The computer?

It's really silent and quite sleek and goodlooking. The EEE logo is horrendous, but the overall computer is fine and nice for touch applications or general computer use. Quite an attractive package.

Per la prima volta dalla sua uscita, arrivano le foto dell’interno dell’Asus Eee Top.

Lembra um pouco do wallpaper mais famoso do Windows XP "Alegria".

twas time for a new desktop and *gasp* i got a bit tired of angelina. for now, anyway ;)

Yes, I am a computer geek. No I do not use *nix. Shock of shocks, yes ;-)

This is my old laptop. An HP Pavillion zv5920us, 15.4" widescreen notebook. Purchased at the end of 2004, and not formatted since then. Everything was old, and I'm resetting her up as a webserver so I can work on work assignments at home. It's really frustrating being a trainee with a desktop, when everyone else at work has a laptop. On top of that, when there's at least two meetings going on in my 5 person cube, it's a little difficult to concentrate. So I'm setting up the webserver to either do work at home, or I'll take it to work and move around there anyway. You people can't stop me from learning in my own way! *heheheh*

No, I did not sit there and watch it go all the way through. I just wanted the picture ;-)

I'm now only using Windows XP via Parallels Workstation on my MacBook Pro

Ask a Mac veteran what he misses most about Mac OS 9 and usually he or she will give you a list of the following features:

Labels, Put Back, WindowShade, Tabbed Folders and Themes.

Of course, the old Mac OS 9 concept known as "Labels" was re-introduced in Mac OS 10.3 Panther, while the "Put Back" feature was recently "put back" in Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. WindowShade was actually developed as a shareware app by Unsanity, the notorious developer of Application Enhancer, the third party module which caused many of the initial blue screens in Mac OS 10.5 Leopard. The shareware app known as "Sticky Windows" approximates many of the functions of Tabbed Folders in OS 9 (Note: Sticky Windows and WindowsShade do not work in Snow Leopard).

Themes, the ability to change the "look" of the Mac OS, is the only remaining legacy feature that I personally would like to see brought back, if for no other reason that as a former Windows user, I pine for the days when I could change the look of my "Windows" on a whim.

Given many people's disgust with the translucency of the Dock, I see Themes as a positive step forward. It would also remove the need for third party developers to create hacked solutions, which may or may not crash future versions of OS X.

Imagine being able to turn the Dock and Finder into varying types of wood or emerald green or even the brushed metal of those bygone years of OS X. Harmful to the personal aeshetics and tastes of Steve Jobs? Possibly. Okay, almost certainly, but given Apple's creed to "Think Different," this could only be a good thing.
