The repaint mechanism seems to freeze when you're logging on to the computer. I enjoy filling the 5 minutes while my profile loads creating cool patterns by dragging the dialog around.

Ever noticed a window flicker in the background when using the self-checkout machines at Woolworths? This one wasn't working at all so a staff member restarted it for me - turns out that the machines still run Windows XP Embedded. *cringe*

my current desktop--i just made it tonight. i am absolutely, 100% obsessed with this photograph that i stumbled across in vintagephoto.
i'm absolutely enamored with it. the nonchalant way their holding hands tells me that they're comfortable enough with each other that they don't have to show the world they're in love. the candidness of the photo. the general atmosphere. the soft focus on them. the dress the woman is wearing & the barely noticeable plaid in the man's jacket.
but i think the thing that gets me the most is the hand-holding. it's just so beautifully simple.

Vanaf een CD van de firma Knoppix start de hele muk incluis oude SCSI-HD, televee- en fax-modemkaart zonder mokken op, waar meneer XP denkt ik dacht het niet.
Een besturingssysteem van de firma Knoppix is zeg 600 meg groot.
Een besturingssysteem van de firma XP daarentegen is groter. Maar dan krijg je gratis het praatprogramma Messenger meegeleverd en het iets MSN-explorer - geen flauw idee wat dat doet/deed - en dit en dat en dit en dat wat je ook niet wilt hebben.

Recently I had cause to reinstall Windows on a PC in the office. Jeepers - we do need Windows machines for testing things on you know, and not just for playing Day of Defeat.
Anyway, it inevitably went wrong, necessitating a rescue. So far, so predictable. However, this machine has SATA RAID, and the controller isn't one that Windows has a driver for. Okay, I suppose we can't really blame Windows for that. But here is something we can moan about. The only way to get Windows to recognise the main drive on this computer is to supply it with a driver disk. A floppy disk. Really. It won't read the driver from a CD.
Now, various rummaging and toing and froing eventually produces a floppy with suitable driver. But, there seems to be another problem - yes, like most computers made in the last five years, this one doesn't even have a floppy drive. D'oh!
Anyway, the short point to this story ids that I don't want anyone ever telling me that linux is hard to install. Ever.
..so that I can edit my metadata easily.
Poked around with AnalogExif for OSX, but prefer the control that ExifMixer offers. Of course I should just learn a scripting language so I can just talk to ExifTool directly. </geek>
