While I did add a strong vignette, that ghostly light from the gazebo is just as the camera saw it. Seen on the grounds of Ashford Castle, Co. Mayo Ireland.

* While it might still be winter officially, both the garden and the countryside are showing clear signs that Spring is here.. We found this nice group of wild aconites and snowdrops in the Rifle Butts quarry near Goodmanham on February 3rd

 

I went there again today lots of snowdrops but the aconites had finished just two weeks

While visiting my sister in Victoria, Texas April 2021 we did some touring of wineries that were close by. Along the way we stopped on the roadside when we saw a potential photo shoot. The wineries of course had their own scenic landscapes with the grape vines and the river close by. While being in a bird watching hut and looking out for interesting birds, this little barn swallow had a visit to us. It was watching us curiously and had this cute expression - isn't it lovely?

Sunday morning while walking around Brazos Bend SP I stumbled across the worst kept secret in Texas. A large group of Wood Storks was roosting at Elm Lake and everyone was excited. Unfortunately for me I started at 40 Acre Lake and didn’t make it to Elm until the light was getting harsh. I made the best of it that I was capable of and planned to come back later for better light. Well, as is so often the case I never saw them there again since despite making several more visits.

With an impressive GP60, SD40-2, SD40E set on the point, NS P94 rumbles upgrade through Lexington in gorgeous afternoon light on the final approach to Linwood. Fast forward 5 years and change and the Dixie plant has been demolished, P94 no longer operates, the yard at Linwood closed, and solid sets of old EMDs moving heavy tonnage on the mainline are next to impossible to find.

While we wait for the beavers to appear.

While we stayed in the Kootenay region of British Columbia our friends very kindly took us on a river rafting trip. I didn't take my camera or phone because I didn't want to lose them overboard but luckily we got an 'official picture' of us in action. It was tremendous fun but the water was icy cold! A far cry from what I'm used to in Thailand

While not as scenic as Wahclella Falls, Munra Falls gives you the opportunity to literally "reach out and touch" as you cross the footbridge while heading upstream of Tanner Creek.

 

Unfortunately this scenic beauty was hit by the 2017 Eagle Creek Fire and it will most likely be years before the area is returned to something close to the condition captured here during one of my 2015 photo adventures.

 

Located outside of Portland, Oregon in the Columbia River Gorge.

While in self quarantine for a few days, I grabbed some of my old SD cards and edited a few images. This image from 2014 is making it's way into my "Digital Canvas" series. Big snow is coming so I'm hoping to feel better and photograph some awesome wintery images. To all of my followers and friends that view my images, thank you very much. Your eyes gazing down my stream all always appreciated.

while we were in NY, the neighborhood deer had their way with our frontyard bush - they definitely gave it a haircut! HBW!

While hiking along the backside portion of the Cinder Cone Trail with a view looking to the southwest across the volcanic painted landscape. This is in Lassen Volcanic National Park. Lassen Peak, a distant backdrop beyond some nearby evergreen pine trees, serves as the focal point of this image. As I aligned myself to compose this image, I wanted to zoom in with the focal length to emphasize the mountain peak, while including some of the surrounding national park landscape for foreground interest.

While out looking for an elusive otter, was fortunate to spot this Black-tailed Godwit.

While many trees are still surprisingly green here after an extremely dry summer, the American sweetgum (Latin: Liquidamber styraciflua, German: Amerikanischer Amberbaum) shows off its gorgeous fall foliage.

 

The sweetgum has a Nahuatl (Aztec) name - Ocotzocuahuitl, which translates to tree that gives pine resin from ocotl (pine), tzotl (resin), cuahuitl (tree), which refers to the use of the tree's resin.

Yesterday while visiting a butterfly exhibit with my daughter and her friend I came across a quote that I've never heard before. “The secret of change is to focus all your energy not on fighting the old, but on building the new.” ― Dan Millman I love this because there is no need to stay locked in whatever has happened before and is now holding you back. Release that energy and have it help move you forward. Change! It is my word of the year and I need to stay working towards that goal. Are you staying focused on your goals this year? If not, why? Are they really something you want?

While feeding young barn owls extend their hunting into the daylight hours.

While barns used to dominate farm sites throughout the countryside, they had a whole supporting cast of other buildings. Sometimes they were small while other times there were quite large buildings that sheltered hogs, sheep or cattle. Hard to tell what this intriguing building was but I suspect at least at one time it held chickens. On our farm, you could put chickens almost anywhere and they would be happy.

While Venus Line leads to the highland plateau of Utsukuchigahara, there is another road called Azalea Line that branches off from Venus Line to Matsumoto city. It is a refurbished logging road and named after the flowers that blooms in early summer along the road.

 

Karamatsu or Japanese larch trees, which were almost withered in Kirigamine, were at their best of colouring when I passed by. The mountain is part of Utsukushigahara volcano.

While walking on the pedestrian path in Botanic Garden, I suddenly spotted the dragon on the path barely 3 to 5 feet away from me ! Out of panic, I clicked the camera and captured this picture. Both, I and dragon are OK ! !

While out in the back garden a pair of rainbow lorikeets dropped by for a feed. They love the nectar from the camellia flowers. I had time to go inside and get my camera.

While the other 3 foxes were amongst all the photographers , this one found a spot where it was alone .

While in my previous picture I tried to minimize the perspective by moving from the center here I squared it all directly in the middle to accentuate the draw of the perspective.

While taking one our kids up to the wedding of the sister of one of their best friends getting married deep in the sticks or boonies in a small town near the Canadian border my wife and I had a scant day with marginal very cloudy weather to look around before we had to run our kid back home so they could be back to work on Monday. For those of you who aren't familiar northern New Hampshire at this time of year the woodlands are just starting to bud leaves and at some local peaks the night before had a foot and half of snow and the nearby access roads to local peaks and lift rides won't open up before Memorial Day Weekend. Nevertheless we manage to look around a decent bit with the very limited time we had with this river shot being one of the places we managed to find.

While waiting for the badgers, this fox came very close and was so kind to pose for exactly 1 second before running off.

While searching for items from Madpea's Valentine's Hunt, I found this awesome spot to stop and take some fun pics!!! This hunt has taken me to over 100 new sims I have never been to before. I have been able to discover so many new places that I will DEFINITELY be visiting again!!! So super excited to continue visiting places while I finish this quest!

RKO_8080. Fascinating interaction between an adult (male) kingfisher and some juveniles. Both demanding for more fish and even eager (demanding) to collect the sushi while still flying.

While going through my archives I dug this shot taken inside a small local cave in Bermuda. Outside on the surface it was brutally hot with very high humidity but inside it was refreshingly cool.

While I knew the sun would be high, this was the only shot I really wanted once I knew 1066 was leading 189

While there have been many attempts to recreate the process of flying, none have come closer to paragliding.

 

Switzerland is often thought of as heaven on earth due to its mesmerizing and spectacular views. Looking at this paradise while soaring in the sky is an extraordinary experience.

 

People who’ve done it describe the experience as fascinating and almost like being a bird.

 

I'm happy enough just by photographing them from afar 😊; having a zoom lens would have been wonderful but not possible when traveling light.

While I was waiting for the light show to start I took my time shooting the abandoned buildings. The show is just underway on the left above the round silo. this is 10:43 and the brilliant light spires started in ernest at 11:00. Watching the height of the green band above the horizon is a good way to predict if it will show up:)

While watching the strawberry super moon set in the west, the eastern sunrise was contending for some attention.

Yesterday while mowing the lawn I finished listening to "When Breath Becomes Air" for the second time. Nothing like bawling your eyes out while walking behind a power mower. The book is such a beautiful testament to figuring out how to live a meaningful life. Paul Kalanathi, the author, was a brilliant man and I am grateful he found meaning and drive to share his story. Start today and examine your life, where do you find meaning and purpose? No one can define your values for you, this takes work, time, and self-reflection. It's like the quote “The trouble is, you think you have time” from Jack Kornfield's Buddha's Little Instruction Book we skitter away our time mindlessly. Today I slowed down, breathed, sipped tea and enjoyed the sunlight in the crisp morning air.

While at Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge I was able to photograph different water fowl nest building as they prepare to raise a family. It is busy and noisy in those nesting areas!!
