While on my way north I couldn’t resist not grabbing some shots with the fresh snow on the trees. One spot I’ve had in mind for a while was an over pass just south of the North Billerica depot. With Keolis outbound train #311 nearing it was a good option. I noticed it was late but I still headed out to set up and to my surprise a geometry extra was making its way with recently rebuilt F40 leading the way as they split the automatics. Photo taken North Billerica, MA December 11, 2019

While taking a couple of distant photos of this barred owl it suddenly became alerted and flew directly toward me making a catch just 15 ft. in front of me. Unfortunately I didn't have the camera set for a flight shot but did take a photo of the owl covering the catch from where I was standing before quickly backing away leaving it to enjoy the catch. I'm guessing this is one of the three spring owlets.

Thank you for viewing

While wandering the grounds of a resort in Maui, I came across a dried seed pod. It seemed the perfect candidate for a photo shoot.

Just before I had seen from home that two roe deer raced after each other, one of them broke off the chase (which turned out to be a buck) and had already come back to graze near the fawns and now the female also rushed back

while walking at The Pearl ( Doha ), i always see patterns in the floor tiles. Tonight I thought i take a photo

While we're on the subject of food...I use Campari tomatoes sold in a plastic blister pack, a good ripe small winter tomato, great if you can find them.

Macro Monday - Wood

These are miniature wooden cotton reels, from my craft stash, the smallest is about 2cm high and the largest about 5cm. HMM

I got locked out of my Flickr account today, I don't know if it was because I'm not on Flickr so much or if it was just being a bad panda but luckily after a while it recognised my password. Anyone else had this problem?

While a security gorilla was shouting at me from downstairs and his dog barking, I could spot this locomotive shunting at ROMCIM Medgidia

While not great mountain photos these mean a lot to me as they were taken 2 weeks after I had finished 5 doses of radiotherapy to my hip from somewhere I'd thought I might never be. It is 2 months now since I was told the PET CT Scan showed "no signs of cancer" in either my hip, the primary tonsil tumor or any where else. My thanks go to those in the NHS and my partner without whom I'd not have been On High.

While in Scotland on holiday we had a drive up the Northeast coast to John O'Groats .On our way back we drove across the top of Scotland to a place called Tongue then head back over the Northwest Highlands to Cullen ....not much less that a 400mile round trip.....as we came over the Highlands the clouds came down and it started to rain ......driving on single track roads made for a very interesting drive .About halfway down the highlands i saw this cottage (no-one living there) its isolation just made it stand out ...just had to stop and get a few shots

While I am impressed by the additional mask capabilities of Lightroom I would say the Sky selection masking needs some work IMHO, on every image where I have used it has left a halo when I bring the image into Photoshop for final tweaking. Oct and early November are great times of the year to capture lake mist or more technically radiation fog, this occurs because the water has absorbed and retained the suns heat as air that has been cooled by the night temperatures that is moisture laden passes over warmer water of the lake. This scene is of my favorite places to welcome the morning and take in the light show as the sun rises at least when I don’t have a camera in hand and a cup of steaming coffee instead.

I took this on Oct 23rd, 2021 with my D850 and Tamron 15-30 f2.8 G2 Lens at 30mm, 1/5s, f8 ISO 64 processed in LR, PS +Topaz ,and DXO

While out feeding the birds had to snap a picture of my snowman in the backyard. Most schools in northern MI closed today but Charlevoix is open! We are once again in storm warning.

While it was possible to catch an Alco leading a freight in the early 70's, it was quite extraordinary to find one on a TV train. Yet here's Penn Central Alco C425 2444 leading train TV9, one of PC's hottest, west at East Syracuse NY.

While photographing some fallen Autumn leaves I was in luck when a duck came into the frame.

While photographing Atka that day, as I can recall a Poodle walked by strutting her stuff. There was a Dog Show on Canada Day at Lions Park in Brantford On. and as you can see, Atka took notice of her. I'd do the same thing buddy, but I'd get a smack upside the head.

While it seems every man and his dog were up the S&C again, I decided on a more local outing. Not being arsed to have a full day out and seeing 419 was allocated to this, there was really only one option in my opinion. Having done my local spots to death with this train and still not succeeding with the sun, I travelled further up the coast for a more scenic, picturesque view. St Bees is the location and running 46 minutes early, 37419 heads north with the usual monthly 1q47 Derby-Carlisle test train. 37423 was on the rear. Had it been on time it would've been touch and go with the sun as a bank of cloud had started to roll in by then.

Now thats just about every 37 nailed on this train, all I need now is 37425 in it's Regional Railway's livery to complete the set!!

While others still wait in the preserving jar to be transformed.

While we were cycling along the Sava River, from Orašje to Bosanski Šamac, we came across this swamp, just at sunset. It would be a shame not to stop and take the camera from the saddlebag. Bicycle tour through Bosanska Posavina, Bosnia and Herzegovina, May 2023.

While searching for Aplomado Falcons this week at Laguna Atascosa NWR we ran across this little beauty. They are pretty dull from a distance but if you are lucky enough to get close for a good look, they are actually quite pretty. I also find it pretty amazing that they can stand on all those cactus thorns and not get poked!

While the stormy clouds building in the distance look good, it does not compete to what I saw when I arrived, and that was brilliant sun that made the good looking clouds absolutely spectacular. Regardless, the SD40-2W working hard on the home stretch back to Flint was worth it as it brings L514 back from Moterm with a decent size train.

While waiting on a tardy Big Boy departure from Denver, a northbound local on BNSF's Brush Sub is seen preparing to cross the UP Greeley Sub in Commerce City, CO.

While traveling on a country road this past weekend,we came across this T-intersection sign. It obviously caught the brunt of August 10's derecho winds which ranged from 75 to 100 mph in this area...

I hadn't expected to find a Tundra Swan at Anchor Point. In fact, it's the first Tundra Swan I've seen in Alaska. I suspect it's just passing through to it's breeding ground further North. Some of the other photographers present didn't shoot any photos thinking it's just the normal trumpeter swans and it wasn't until I was processing the images when I saw the yellow near the eye. A great find!

Taken 3 May 2023 at Anchor Point, Alaska.

While I go cycling more often than I walk, I was trying to fend off a whole army of viruses last week ;-) so I had to restrict myself to a daily walk in one of the local nature reserves, here in late afternoon.

While out shooting I noticed a crop duster operating in the field next to me but didn't think much about it until the noise grew louder and I turned to see this. Immediately the famous crop duster scene in North By Northwest came to mind. I was tempted to run and make my escape but I'm no Cary Grant so I decided to take the photo instead.

As always, your faves and comments are appreciated. Constructive criticism and suggestions are especially welcome as I believe they help to make me a better photographer. Thank you for taking the time to look at my photos.

Captured at the Roadside in Himachal Pradesh, India

While testing out the new lens, which went about as well as expected (not perfect, but pretty darn good for the money) there was not a single bird out there! So, tonight you get....leaves!

While we were doing a cycling trip in Vietnam in 2014, we went by this large garden. I added a texture for the sky ( Thanks to Jerry Jones).

Alors que nous faisions un voyage à vélo au Vietnam en 2014, nous sommes passés par ce grand jardin. J'ai ajouté une texture pour le ciel (merci à Jerry Jones).

It's been a while I havn't posted something here. I have to admit that I becomes more and more difficult to take pictures. Partly because my job takes me more time. But the main reason is probably that as I progressed into photography, I raised my standards to a point that taking a satisfactory picture was a kind of gamble : I realised that when I went out with my camera, there was less and less picture that I found worth posting. Let's be honest : even if it's - I think - good to privilege quality over quantity, it's also quite discouraging to know that you have maybe less than 1/10 chance to get someting good ... So I take less pictures than I used to ... I hope that I'll find new inspiration with spring ...

Of course, I should probably not think in terms of chance, but in terms of work and planification : I know, but, as you know, having good idea is not that easy. That's why I also like the "chance-factor" in photography ...

However, as every year, on a white foggy sunday, I like to go shooting these cascades in Soubey : Spring is always a little bit sooner there. And I like the enchanted forest setting that it creats ... I was particularly happy with the constrast between the light in the background and the shadows on the foreground. I decided to accentuate it in post-processing, to create a more oniric image ...

While visiting Yellowstone National Park we hiked several miles to the cabin at Cabin Creek. The cabin was constructed during the 1930's and somehow has survived wildfires in the area. The windows were barred and the doors padlocked.

Happy Window Wednesday!

While I still miss seeing cabooses on trains, a rear distributed power unit who's nose is facing away from the train isn't bad. Here GSSNTR 04 and Mount Ogden create an impressive sight from Stoddard Lane near Morgan, Utah on Feb. 6, 2021.

While on the left (previous photo) Mr sleek and thin was pleasantly floating about in peace with ease, this monster was forming on my right, overtaking one sphere of space in the cloudzone.

There is a room for all up in the sky!! Keep your head up (:

while walking here, I saw steam comming up from the ground and the trees, it was magical!

while this boar took a short break between catching salmon.

He was standing behind some tall grasses and it looked like the perfect Kodak moment.

Happy Macro Monday to all flickr friends, HMM

While chasing the sunset I have hardly recognized this black beauty watching me.

While hiking in Dartmoor National Park (Devon, UK), the beautiful autumn colors of the bracken caught my eye. I love the variegated rusty tones!

While cautiously trawling the back alleys of West End, we finally tracked down this mural that can be and was frustratingly elusive. It is sadly hidden well away from public view.

Wet End, down by the river was once the terminus of a tram line, route 77 from New Farm Park. Sadly, the system closed in April 1969 and since then, the pretty route has been operated by diesel and now gas buses.

This is quite a fun mural, using the architecture of the building to enhance the picture. Shame it isn't in a more prominent spot.

While my mother was in the hospital I found some brief respite through visits to Munsinger Clemens Gardens in St. Cloud. Right away I spotted a couple of clearwing moths visiting the vivid magenta colored Bee Balm. There were actually two of them on the same flower for a short time but I wasn't able to capture them together. These gardens are just beautiful and helped heal my soul a little that day.
