ENG: Autumn has many faces, whether rain, fog, falling leaves and the shorter days with darkness. Just like in this shot, the light drizzle and the deep fog at the edge of Berlin.
Whether we mean the journey ahead or the distance that separates, the path between may include the challenges that lie ahead. In this case, it was the most pleasurable of forest walks without obstacles, except for the changes in direction. Time to get out, into and amongst nature is so very agreeable and somewhat entertaining. With so many kinds of sounds, smells and other delights, one is usually left content.
And, for those looking at the image from a different perspective, a leading line takes us into the shot. However, this happens after the out of focus framing of the two trees. They are neither distracting nor used to serve any other purpose than to narrow one's vision into the photo.
Whether Snowy Egrets learned their fly fishing technique from the numerous terns that ply the waters of Horsepen Bayou or they developed it independently, it is an exceptionally impressive if not exceptionally efficient form of feeding.

I didn't know whether to upload any Christmas pictures this year as my heart wasn't into creating them but I thought I'd upload a few before Christmas taken of Asha last Christmas were I would have no editing or creating to do. I love the effect of the reflections of the lights on Asha's face here which I can only assume came from the lights of the tree reflecting off the lens of the camera. Unusual I think to get this kind of effect naturally. I love the way Asha is holding her wee sign telling Santa she really tried to be good. I think out of all Asha's tricks that she could do holding things like this would be among her most impressive for a dog. I hope this little pictures brings a smile to the faces of Asha's fans. Warmest Christmas wishes from the both of us...

Whether you want to dabble with developing your own special strain of zinnias or simply save money at seed-buying time, saving viable seeds from the zinnia plants in your garden is quick and easy. Today’s zinnias are descended from Zinnia elegans, native zinnias found in Mexico and the southern United States. Heirloom seeds, sometimes called heritage seeds, produce offspring true to parent plants -- the flowers you grow from heirloom seeds are similar. Hybrids revert to the lineages that were crossbred during the development of the hybrid variety, and planting seeds from these flowers results in a wide range of flower types.

Everything we shut our eyes to, everything we run away from, everything we deny, denigrate or despise, serves to defeat us in the end. What seems nasty, painful, evil, can become a source of beauty, joy, and strength, if faced with an open mind.
Every moment is a golden one for him who has the vision to recognise it as such.

Saturdays: Landscapes
I debated for quite a while on whether or not I should post this. It was taken under extremely harsh lighting conditions. Although It is not quite fully back-lit, I was shooting into at least quartered light. And I have to admit to doing a bit of post processing to pull out some definition.
I finally gave in and posted it because, although the lighting is off, I rather liked the pose and perch. Additionally, I wanted to share an experience that was a first for me. When I initially saw this fellow he was drumming on the log. In fact, I doubt I would have spotted him if it had not been for the wing movement
If you look at the dried golden rod stalk in the background and compare it to the color in his rump-ruff you can see why these guys are virtually impossible to detect in ground cover.
I have heard grouse drumming from a distance but never witnessed the action --- it was utterly amazing.
He drummed and strutted along the log for a minute or so allowing me to click away .........Then jumped off the back side and quite literally melted into the surrounding autumn foliage. Meanwhile, I stood there dumb struck wondering if I had simply conjured his visit.
I did get another image or two that showed the wing action and some of his dance steps. But I felt they were to washed even for documentary shots. However, I am grateful for having witnessed this phenomenon and at least wanted to share the experience.
*The sheep pasture on the outskirts of town in the winter fog*
I don't have to drive far to this location and I often pass by there on photo trips. In moods like the one above, a picture is always needed every now and then, whether with or without sheep. .
Zu dieser Location muss ich nicht weit fahren und komme dort auf Fotoausflügen oft vorbei. Bei solchen Stimmungen wie oben ist immer mal wieder ein Bild fällig, ob mit oder ohne Schafe.

whether we like it or not
We only have three alternatives:
yesterday, present and tomorrow.
And not even three
because as the philosopher says
yesterday is yesterday
belongs to us only in memory:
to the rose that has already defoliated
you can't get another petal out of it.
The cards to play
there are only two:
the present and tomorrow.
and not even two
because it is a well established fact
that the present does not exist
but to the extent that it becomes past
and it's over...,
Like youth.
In short
we only have tomorrow left:
I raise my glass
for that day that never comes
but what is the only thing
what we really have.

Well guys, here's a WIP that is obviously inspired by the amazing Ooabahni Flaxpants (www.flickr.com/photos/brickthing/15504198905/in/photolist... ) by Nick V. Still, I hope that this is distinctive enough to be its own thing, and I plan on updating it to a more "swamp-like creature" in the future.
I'm still looking for some small feet-designs, something that could work on this scale.
Some news on my Matoran, currently 51 of them are finished, 7 are in wip and 10 more are planned. Once all of the WIPs are finished, I'll slowly start showing a tribe at the time, with each tribe consisting of 4 build members.
Well, this was it for now, see you next time !
My thanks to SkeletalMess for the texture, Scratch the Surface 6, from a collection of the same name.

"Ever wonder whether biologists' constant renaming and reshuffling of organisms from one taxonomical pigeonhole to another has any actual importance in the real world?
You could ask the wrentit. A tiny bird that lives in stands of chaparral along the California coast, the wrentit was just reassigned from one family of birds to another -- and as a result, it's now protected under one of America's oldest environmental laws: the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918 (MBTA).
How'd this happen? It has to do with a group of scientists who discuss bird taxonomy in the U.S., and how the agency responsible for enforcing the MBTA follows those scientists' lead in determining which birds are protected by the law.
...
Taxonomic categories reflect, as closely as we can determine, which groups of organisms share common ancestors, and how those common ancestors were themselves related to each other. As we learn more about how we all evolved, through DNA analysis and other means, we learn that some of our old notions about how each of us fit into the big evolutionary jigsaw puzzle need to be updated. When that happens, taxonomy often needs to change as well.
The wrentit, Chamaea fasciata, is part of a larger group of birds that has perplexed ornithologists for some time. In recent years it's been bounced between five different closely related families depending on which ornithologist is writing about them. Until recently the AOU Checklist put the wrentit in the family Timaliidae, commonly known as Old World babblers, a huge group of small songbirds similar to warblers and thrushes. Most Old world babblers are native to Eurasia, Africa, and Australasia, with an especially diverse number of species in the Indian subcontinent.
...What does all this mean? There hasn't been any change in the wrentit, but as a result of a taxonomical technicality it now enjoys the protection of a law that is, when USFWS decides to enforce it, a fairly stringent environmental protection law. Once the ruling becomes effective on December 1, big development projects that threaten to disrupt California's chaparral habitat have one more wildlife species to consider, and one more set of permits to get before they can start cutting down coyote brush.
Not a bad result from a group of scientists considering what might seem forbiddingly wonky data."

A life bird at the time, whether you call it a Nutmeg Mannikin, a Scaly-Breasted Munia, or a Lonchura punctulate. Whatever it is, they're an introduced species and their range is expanding, there was one here in Yolo County last year.
Pasadena, Ca. November 2019.
Whether wheeling over a swamp forest or whistling plaintively from a riverine park, a Red-shouldered Hawk is typically a sign of tall woods and water. It’s one of our most distinctively marked common hawks, with barred reddish-peachy underparts and a strongly banded tail. In flight, translucent crescents near the wingtips help to identify the species at a distance. These forest hawks hunt prey ranging from mice to frogs and snakes.
...whether you celebrate Thanksgiving on the 23rd or not....may it be simply giving thanks.

Richard 'doffing his cap' explanation;-)
We were in Twin Harbors, MN watching a container ship from Montreal being loaded with taconite. I was photographing this scene and continued as the ship began its journey up the St. Lawrence Seaway.
When I turned to follow the ship, Richard caught my eye.....he was waiting for me to look his way and thought it very funny when I did. Me too:)

Snow falls without asking,
twilight lingers, unsure whether to leave.

it rests,

💖 Thank you all for your kindness, support, awards, favs, and messages. Even if I do not always reply, I see every one of them, and I am truly grateful.
💖 You make Flickr a special place for me, and your encouragement means more than you know. As most of you have noticed and know, I have been more present in my real life since some time now, so I am not here on Flickr or in Second Life as much as I used to be, but I still appreciate each one of you for taking the time to look at my pictures and for all your uplifting encouragement.
It is already 13th of December and we are fast approaching Christmas as well as seeing another year coming to an end.
All the more reason to be gentle, thoughtful, and to take care of ourselves and one another.
I hope you are all enjoying this time of year, and not stressing too much with all the preparations for this years festive season.
Best wishes and regards to each one of you. Take good care of your self as well as one another, be kind as well as thoughtful towards others.
Huge warm hugs and much love,
Lori 💖
