...i had hair clips
Who as a little girl didn't have hair clips? I think it was a main accessory for every girl!!
... I had way too many plush toys (and still have)
... my best friend and protector was a dog, we got as puppy when I was three
... I played under the trees, that are reflected in the eyes
This is a 11 cm plush dog from Steiff I had as child.
When I was a child my best friend and I would listen to this double live album over and over again. His dad had a bad ass stereo system and when his parents were at work we cranked it up and did the whole concert with our tennis racket guitars. He was Gene Simmons and I was Ace Frehley. I still listen to this on my Ipod but I sure miss the crackle of the vinyl.
For macro mondays theme "When I was a child... " a picture of skateboard bearings. In the seventies when I was a child I not only loved skateboarding, I also enjoyed cleaning the bearings and the feeling of increased speed afterwards. Since then, I have changed from skate to longboarding, same fun :-) This particular set of bearings was to grimy to be cleaned, but good enough for this week's macro. HMM
Anybody remember these things that were very popular for a while in the 1970's? Before they got banned that is! Many a bruised wrist or cracked knuckles & fingers ( I remember a broken finger) were attributed to these things! Lethal!! ( But great fun!)
When I was a Child we didn't have a TV so I read books, probably books I shouldn't have at an early age, but within them I went to other countries Africa with Ryder Haggard, the Foreign Legion with P C Wren and Victorian England with Charles Dickens with a book you can travel all over the world,
When I was a Child...all my music did not fit onto a small lightweight device where I could "shuffle" or create smart playlists. My playlists took hours to create and had to fit 2 sets of 45 minutes or risk the dreaded end of tape before end of track. While I do love my mp3 player, I do miss the process of creating a new mix tape and writing out the track list by hand for the insert so I could remember what was on each one. Funny to think that my kids have no idea what a CD is, let alone this little beauty! HMM

Theme for Macro Monday
I'm grateful for your views... happy Macro Monday :)
"When I was a Child..." HMM!
When I was a child, my favourite thing in the world to do, was to go fishing with my Dad at the local river.
I have fond memories of going home with the day's catch and cooking them for dinner that night.
I now enjoy the same childhood memories with my kids.
A race around the block was enough entertainment for me with no traffic, no cycle helmets and no smartphones, great simple fun. HMM.
When I was a child, my mother collected these arrow heads fashioned from quartz and similar crystals. They eventually were part of my inheritance but, being smaller than a coin, I lost them and just found them last week looking for wrapping paper in the closet.
We were allowed to examine them but one rule was to handle with care because they are sharp (first letter of my name).
I pointed them in opposite directions so one of these things is not like the others, backlit them with one strobe and used a second at 45-degrees to light the front.
If you look closely, especially near the edges, you can spot a few tiny bubbles in the stones and notice that the one at the upper left has stripes.
Good thing that anything goes for the Macro Mondays "redux" theme.

Arrow heads are lying on a Stofen omnibounce on mounted to a 600EX-II RT pointed up. Front lighting is from a 430EX-III RT at approximately 45-degrees at camera left.

When I was a child I liked to “see things in other things”. Some of you may know this phenomenon concerning faces that is called pareidolia. Clouds are popular objects to see things in although these associations are so ephemeral. I used to see not only faces but effectively any subjects in any objects. However, my favourites were indeed facial expressions. I kept the habit of seeing things up until now wherewith I already caused some confusion to other flickr members which aren’t as familiar as me with that sort of imagination. I apologize for that but I’m not able to stop it, I must just comment what I see in their pictures ... Therefore in my case the sentence to be completed could begin as well “SINCE I was a child …”
This week's Macro Mondays' theme is "When I Was a Child . . ."
When I was a girl, I had a pink jewelry box with a ballerina that popped up and twirled when you opened the lid. At one point, it was time to get rid of the box but I kept the music box inside. I love the way the mechanism works and the tune really takes me back. I wish I knew the name of the tune.

Macro Mondays - "When I was a child..."
I used to play with these road signs as a child, together with toy cars and Lego buildings which I had built.
These Dinky Toys accessories (Dinky 47 Series) were made by Meccano sometime between 1935 and 1954, but from what I have read these must be pre-war versions due to the fact that they have hollow triangles.
... I like to hear Disneyland LP's
Mary Poppins - TALES OF UNCLE REMUS (Bruder Lampe, Bruder Bär, Bruder Fuchs) - Heidi - Pete’s Dragon (Elliot das Schmunzelmonster) and Cinderella
the sound fom this mice Jaques und Karli are still in my ears

"When I was a child. . . " I lived in my imagination, a world where I made up magical stories of dangerous adventures ending in finding hidden treasures. This macro image is from an unusual art piece at the Jepsen Museum in Savannah of pins and pearls gathered in a woman's bonnet. It reminds me of peeking into small places to be surprised by great beauty.
When I was a child ...
My grandfather bought me a dolls shop which consisted of a counter and shelving unit with lots of (empty) miniature cardboard boxes and these little glass bottles for sweets, sadly all I have left are the glass bottles.

I played hours without end with toy knights.
These two are really old (Timpo Toys, Britain) from the late sixties, I must have been three or four years old when I got them. I remember sneaking into the room early in the morning, where my brother still slept, to get these two figures from my locker. The knight's right hand and foot were gnawed off by our puppy in the early seventies.

When I was about ten year's old I began to buy records and one of the first ones was Hotter than Hell with Kiss,
I remember this well because one of my friends mom was terrified by the title and we didn't fully
understand the meaning of it(English is not mine native tongue) but after the lecture from the mom the album was even cooler ;)

"When I Was a Child"
When I was a child... I played the flute. Despite being a fan of classical music I gave up.

When I was a child I explored Barsoom (Mars) with Edgar Rice Burroughs and played "on Mars" for hours on end. I have been fascinated with the red planet for most of my life and would still love to go there. For the Macro Mondays group. Topic: When I was a child...
Drop is Dutch for licorice. And the true Dutch licorice is black and salty.
When I was a child we lived in Colombia, South America. No way the people there would like candy that was black and tasted salty. So my father, who was one of the managers of a factory that made candies, cookies and chocolate, never even considered producing "dropjes" for the Colombian market. My younger brother and I could get all sorts of sweets, but no dropjes. Our maternal grandfather in Holland, who knew we were fond of these curious "sweets" found a wonderful solution. Every month he would send four issues of the "Donald Duck", a weekly Dutch children's comic with the well known Disney characters (it was in the 1950s and then still half in color and half in black&white) to us. They were rolled up and inside were... two "rolletjes drop". You can imagine what a treat it was for my brother and me when they arrived. For six years our opa (= granddad) kept this up. Then in 1959 we returned to the Netherlands, so no more need to send us the Donald Duck and dropjes.
As for the comic books, that we had kept from the very beginning and read over and over again... our mother discarded them before we left. She never realized what a fortune she had thrown away.

This was a tough assignment. When I was a child our Uncle lived with us and he would give me and my siblings a dime every day. I would save it up and at the end of the week we could bring money to school with a passbook and they would deposit our money into a bank account. They would enter the amount in the passbook. Perhaps this is why I am pretty good at saving!
...aged 5, I was bridesmaid for my uncle and aunt. This heart-shaped necklace was a gift from them and, if you look very closely at the photograph, you can just see the chain. It's looking very worse for wear now but I still keep it in my jewellery box.
HMM everyone.
When I was a child I was obsessed with tools. My Grandpa was a carpenter, and he had passed a lot of that knowledge onto my dad. I used to "help" dad a lot with woodwork when I was a kid. I loved all the tools, but there was a few that were more special than others. First and foremost was dad's saw: "Black Prince" - that was my favourite tool as a kid (although I was never allowed to use it - probably why I was so fascinated by it). Secondly was his pocket knife - basically all the useful tools sitting in one convenient little package.
I remember dad going away on business when I was about 5 years old. As the oldest child, I was left "in charge" of the house - I had to look after mum. Dad let me hold onto his pocket knife while he was away - a symbol that I was in charge. Predictably, this ended in disaster - I cut my self several times with it (nothing bad, just a knick here and there on my hands).
When I was a bit older, I was allowed to get a pocket knife of my own - the one pictured here. I bought this with my birthday money just after turning 12, and it's been heavily used for nearly 20 years now. I've used every tool on this thing many many times, and while I have proper tools for doing most of what my pocket knife can do, nothing beats the practicality and portability of these things - especially because I spend a lot of time out in the bush and can't carry every individual tool with me.
So this photo sums up a lot about my child hood. It's something I bought as a child, and symbolises that fascination I had with tools as a kid. I pulled out the saw blade because I remember so clearly how much I loved that damn saw as a kid (something that was also disastrous - I got a small saw for my birthday one year and proceeded to cut up various bits of furniture). The background in this photo is the wooden top of a coffee table, unfortunately not one of the ones that dad or I made, but I wanted to have a wooden background because I think it was more than just the tools I loved, it was the idea of being able to make something. One day I'll have my own house with a big shed and be able to return to that childhood obsession of building things with my tools.
This was a cool theme. I look forward to seeing what everybody else did!

"When I was a child...."
I loved the magic way of thinking in the childhood. The tiny big world of imagination, like a homemade jungle in a little puddle.
When I was a child in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the woman across the street had a number of huge lilac "trees"; that's what they looked like to my 7-year-old-eyes. One day I broke off 5 or so branches of the beautiful flowers and gave them to my mother. Mother told me I had to go to the woman's house and give them back to her. (That's the short version.) I knocked on her door, told her what I'd done. She admonished me not to take more without asking. Then, with a smile, she told me to give them to my mother.

One of my sweetest and most lasting memories of being a child is my grandma taking me to get McDonald's ice cream. We would go on days when we were out and about together. I have a vivid memory of sitting in the booth with her, looking out the window of the restaurant. The cones were only a quarter then. A quarter for a beautiful memory.
Macro Monday theme "When I was a Child ...." me and my sisters spent many hours playing together with our Barbies.
Happy Macro Monday!
of about fourteen I bought these glass swans at the fair from a glass blower. At that time they were attached to pierced ear wires.

When I was a child...I loved building sand castles when we used to go to the Northern beaches. My favorite part was decorating tham with sea shells delicately placed on the structure...
Quand j'étais enfant, j'aimais construire des châteaux de sable quand nous allions sur les plages du Nord .Mon plaisir suprême était de les embellir avec des coquillages délicatement posés sur la construction.
When I was a child, someone give me this wooden construction kit as a gift. It contains only wooden parts you can combine to block houses from your idea.
I FINALLY found a Maple tree with branches low enough to the ground for me to nip a little twig with flowers.( I am 5'3" so pretty low to the ground!) I chose maple blossoms as they played a huge role in my young life. As I would walk to and from Prince of Wales Public School along Cannon Street in Hamilton ON in the spring, I was absolutely transported by the overwhelming fragrance and beauty of the canopy of maple flowers in bloom above my head! Every spring when I see the maples in bloom, I am six, seven and eight years old again . BTW, those same maples played a big role in the autumn too. The leaves turned brilliant golden and I remember crunching through the dry, fallen leaves and jumping into huge piles of them raked up by neighbours!LOVE maple trees! HMM
