I lived in a quonset hut on Guam, went to kindergarten, loved my family, friends and dolls, and did not have a care in the world.

This is a macro of an old photo, taken in 1951, probably by my mother. I am the child with the dolls.

"When I was a child, I loved to go ice skating and wanted to be the next world champion skater", which in Australia isn't that easy! Luckily for me, there was an ice rink (a rarity here, even now) not far from where we lived, so I was able to live that dream for a while. Never became champion, though. My submission for Macro Mondays "When I was a child" theme. HMM!

... I hated spiders.

I don't know when this fear really started, when I played with a buddy in a patato cellar in my neighbor's basement or when I took baths and cried out for my mother because a big spider was floating (and probably drawning) in it ( bigs ones, that came up of the (same !) basement)... by the wall, using the piping.

Now, I continue to cry out my mother :D Buuuut as a part of a therapy (launched by myself) I take them in picture. They're so beautiful and various subjects.

But without my camera. I just run. Far away. Especially if they are the jumpy type, like this one.

I loved evenings spent at the card table playing my favorite board game Monopoly with my family. With hot popcorn and fresh Macintosh apples to snack on as we played - I was a very happy child.

"When I was a child"

**(The game you see in this image is a "commemorative edition" I currently have. You never know when the power may go out.)

As a child I used to catch grashoppers. My parents had (and still have) a summer house in Sweden and I always enjoyed to be out in nature there (we were living in West-Berlin by then).

'What Time is it Mr Wolf?' is a playground game, When I was a child I learned to play it in Irish, The dandelion seed head is the clock. When the seeds are blown away it is dinner time. That is when the chase started.

HMM all.

Quand j'étais petite je voulais devenir reporter comme Tintin.

Quand j'étais enfant...

... Je jouais avec les petites voitures. Maintenant celle-ci est bien abimée, marquée par les nombreux accidents que j'ai eus en la conduisant.

When I was a child, I liked roleplays....such as mother & child...

For Macro Mondays.

Up-loaded for this weeks theme for Macro Mondays. When I was a child my Father would not allow a television in the house. Instead he taught us many games and how to entertain ourselves. One of his favorites was Mahjong. Pictured here is the red and green dragon tiles - made of plastic not ivory.

When I was a Child... used to smoke these everyday... HMM

When I was a child ... I loved collecting shells!

I mostly collected them from the beach on our holidays to Devon and Cornwall, or when we visited my Grandma in Blackpool! But occasionally as a special treat I was allowed to buy one as a souvenir from a shell shop!

This rainbow spiral shell was a firm childhood favourite, and I now know it comes from a Haitian Tree Snail, but then I just loved it for its colours and pattern!

I still have my shell collection even after all these years!

...this was my iPod

Image taken by resting the cassette on a Lastolite mini softbox mounted on a Nikon sb-600 (set at 1/64 power). A second sb-600 (1/32 power) fitted with a stofen diffuser was held in front to provide some fill. All controlled with a su-800 cls commander on a D700 with 60mm macro lens

Macro Monday theme, "When I was a Child ...." My sisters and I spent hours playing with our Barbies.

Happy Macro Monday!

When I was a child, I loved to play badminton.

Not having any computer toys, we played Jacks on the sidewalk.

most of the games included dice and marbles

My dad used to work for the Dutch railroads and model trains were his hobby. Together we build a model landscape with Märklin HO trains, mountains, houses and train stations. Good memories!

When I was a child I had a music box. When I opened it in the evening a princess came alive ... and she danced and danced and I watched her, untill I couldn't watch no more...

When I was a child I lived in Chicago and would go out to a farm in Indiana - We would catch Fireflies in a jar.

Stamp collecting was my primary hobby as a young child.

...I loved playing baseball with all the boys in the neighborhood. I got such a thrill out of watching their faces when I would crush a line-drive over their heads or back-hand a ground ball and throw them out at 1st base. My daddy raised a proper Tom Boy!

A little side note: the glove pictured here was my first "real" glove that I got from the Easter Bunny when I was about 8 years old.

I must confess that I ate them all after the shot...

When I was a child,... I dreamt of eating plenty of gummys. And now that I am a grown up,... that's exactly what I do!!!

spending hours in the yard building elaborate scenes. This scene brought me back to those wonderful carefree days

These were a real treat when I was a kid, lime was my favourite but I also loved orange ones which my uncle used to make, he called them Uncle Brian Specials. A great childhood memory and an afternoon treat for my youngest, with a couple of sips for me too.

My mom wrote me notes like this to encourage me. I didn't like school and never wanted to go. I saved this envelope with a letter inside from her. I never want to lose this.

I was in Kindergarten or 1st grade when she did this, so it was about 1976 when she wrote this envelope/note.

When I was a Child... I loved wearing as many glow sticks as possible. Everyone loves glow sticks.

My submission for "When I was a child.." I had a serious fear of getting stuck with a needle.

One of my children's old toy cars. I don't have any of mine any longer, but I had similar stuff and would spend many a happy hour driving them around on the carpet, pushing them over cliffs (stairs) etc. :D

I don't normally go for this sort of processing, but thought it worked in this instance as it gives a more gritty and realistic look to the shot. It helps that the car has been well-loved too. :)

aged 7 and Robin my dear brother and friend was 4, we had some kind of falling out which resulted in my beloved mamod steam engine getting smashed up with a hammer. I Have since found an identical model in a junk shop and it is a fond reminder of childhood sibling warfare!

... I played with toy cars rather than dolls.

I loathed playing with dolls and inherited a box full of cars from a friend's mum. She asked her son to give me some of his toy cars.

The one in the photo, (which could equally be a sledge), but was my only prop was given to me by Céline's son.

Thank you for your favourites. :O)

My grandfather, my father, and I all loved trains. Anytime we could, we would go on train rides. And we had our own model train sets. O gauge for my grandfather (1:45 scale, three rails with 32mm between outside rails), HO gauge for my father (1:87 scale with 16.5mm between the two rails), and N gauge for me (1/160 scale with only 9mm between the two rails).

Thanks to Macro Mondays, I pulled this N gauge diesel engine out of storage and dusted it off (Obviously not well enough!). It is hard to tell, but the engine is only 25mm (less than 1") tall.

The building was backlit with a desk lamp while the primary light was an LED panel, giving the building the illusion of internal lights.

Thanks for the inspiration and incentive to dig out the trains!

... I wanted to be a professional ice-skater when I grew up. This is pretty unusual in Australia! My heroes were Torvill and Dean. This is half of a pair of ear-rings I have as a keepsake from my childhood.
