DPS Weekly Assignment - Colours: Yellow
We've had some dreadful storms here over the last few days with dark skies, blustering wind and torrential rain. Today, the bad weather subsided for a couple of hours and I found this bright yellow lichen growing on clay roof tiles, glowing in the sunshine. Yellow is certainly a cheerful colour that lifts the spirits!

I live near the Gioia metro stop next to the park. Every Tuesday and Saturday the streets are over taken by the open market, where I primarly shop (It's much cheaper than the grocery story, and it's all fresh). The stand owners are very friendly (especially when they realized you're a returning customer), and the owner of this stand would often offer me slices fresh fruit.
There is nothing more relaxing than waking up at 10am, and going to the market half a block away to buy a delicious, fresh, wholesome breakfast.
Submitted for Active Assignment Weekly: Music + Pictures = Musictures
Songs - we've all got our favourites. Some that lift us up, some that make us cry, some that make us shake our groove things. In honour of all of those tunes out there, this weeks task is to turn song lyrics into something visual.
Song: Joan Baez - Diamonds and Rust
Ok. So this is what I could come up with.... Obviously, reflects the title of the song (one of my personal all-time favs)
WIT: black cloth set outside in daylight (not direct sun), place objects and shoot -- nothing fancy :)

Its time for my weekly pp - this is one more from my trip to china - Its caught up in a small village near dragons backbone.
Ecclesiastes 11:4 NKJV " He who observes the wind will not sow, And he who regards the clouds will not reap."------
We are all guilty of procrastination at some point. Anything from schoolwork, to housework, we all have those chores we just keep putting off until a better time. Oftentimes those chores get pushed farther down the list, and eventually forgotten about.
We must be careful about procrastination and it's effect on our spiritual lives. We put off answering the call of Jesus, saying we will listen to the Gospel at a more convenient time.
In Acts 24:25 this is what Felix told Paul. We know Felix didn't mind talking to Paul, But when Paul started to make Felix uncomfortable- He sent Paul away until a more convenient time. As far as I know by reading the book of Acts, Felix never got the chance to call Paul back. It was by his own procrastination that Felix robbed himself of the love, mercy, and grace that God provides. [ 2 Corinthians 6:2] " Behold, now is the accepted time; Behold, now is the day of salvation."-------- Don't hesitate, don't argue, don't question. If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead you will be saved.
We can always find a reason to put off salvation, But remember this: We do not know how much time we have- Only God does! So I ask you to act now, before it's to late.
I thought this shot was going to be pretty easy. I just picked up the camera and snapped a shot of the Alcatraz souvenir magnet on the fridge (after cleaning both of course). I loaded it on to the computer to edit and oh the horrors! There was my purple shirt, and my left hand, and my right hand and.... there was no way I was going to have the time OR the skill to edit all that. Instead, I reshot, but this time I cut a hole in black construction paper to hide those darn reflections. Also used the new speedlight that came as part of the "new to me" camera deal, bouncing it off the wall to the right of the fridge.
Oh, and does it meet the dare? I mean, it's a red rectangle, but it's also inside another rectangle which is NOT red.
In PSE, desaturated all except the red, straightened, and slightly cropped. I was debating on whether or not to clone out the scratches on the stainless steel. Opinions?

Active Assignment Weekly: Liquid in Motion
The Assignment:
For those of you who don’t like set-up, this will challenge you a bit, but I promise it’ll be fun and hopefully a good learning experience that will stretch your photography journey. I first learned about the relationship between lighting conditions, flash, aperture, and shutter speed when trying to shoot my son’s baseball games. Those learnings then extended to shooting water movement whether it was a water fight or shooting one of those cool water splash shots.
The Assignment : Shoot a picture that captures liquid of any type frozen in motion. It can be taken indoors or outdoors. The liquid amount can be a drop or a wave-full and the movement can be accompanied by any object or living being. Depending on the speed of your lens (i.e. shutter speed at a given aperture or vice versa) and availability of flash, you may consider taking the shot in outdoor lighting. Using a tripod will help immensely.
Restrictions: None, except no fabrication of liquid movement in post processing.
Dare: If you have not tried a water splash type shot before, I dare you to get that under your belt.
WIT: After reading of the hours you folks had spent on yours, the heckling neighbors, the broken flashes, even the wife driving full speed at the photographer, I decided to play it safe and go with what I knew. So, after assuring that the toilet was exceedingly clean, I flushed. I did use a tripod and shot in shutter priority...both outside of my norm. I also learned how to perform continuous burst shooting and played around with a halogen work light to adjust lighting. Then in PSE, I played with levels (on color...also new to me) and chrome filters, blue filters, and finally, a violet filter. The norm: adjust contrast, sharpness, and saturation. I applaud you splashers! It's been fun to see what you all presented! Maybe next time for me!
