Taken for Active Assignment Weekly: Complementary Colours
What it took:
I received this colourful dishcloth as a gift from my neighbour, and I have a bright yellow kitchen table. My initial thought was to have them close together so you could see the texture of both the cloth and the table (which is not solid yellow) but I found the two textures together to be a bit much, so I stuffed the dishcloth in a wine glass to get it away from the table. I was working on getting the colours right and not paying too much attention to the shapes, but when I was looking at the photos this shape jumped out at me.
As you can see from the reflections, it was mostly natural light from the kitchen window. I think by this point I'd also turned on an overhead light to give a bit of additional fill.
This is the "Family Orchestra" I play with. Hoping to move up to the larger "Community Orchestra" in 2014.

Jeannette Greaves of Deerwood, Man. shot this photo of hydro lines at sunrise on Monday (Aug. 5) in the RM of Lorne. A low ground fog was hovering in the area, she notes.

This is what I picked up today at the farmer's market. It cost me $20 and will last me at least a week making nearly every meal at home. Everything is local, organic and seasonal. Salad mix, heirloom tomatoes, sweet peppers, assorted summer squash, radishes and squash blossoms.

Chiaroscuro
Restrictions: NO photos of flowers, unless they are in the background. Also, allow the photo itself to be chiaroscuro, depending less on photoshop effects (although photoshop can be used to enhance it).
WIT: I had my son stand next to a window in a room with the overhead light off and opened the blinds. The overcast sky gave a fairly soft light but also strong contrast.
Visst kan siri gilla att leka med dockor, men oftast blir det ofta en nedmontering. Ger hon inte armar och ben som blommor till mamma så blir det en truddelutt på munspelet. Var ska detta sluta? Hannibal?
Active Assignment Weekly: July 4-11
Your challenge this week is to create an image that portrays the title of a classic novel. Not just any old novel, but one that is extremely well known and loved. You're not trying to capture the mood of the novel, or present a scene from it. This challenge is about finding a way to write the title in picture form.
Thomas Hardy - Jude the Obscure
WIT: Played around with shots of this page from the Bible - varying the focus - this came out the best.
Embrace the yuck. (tile done totally wrong-handed) The challenge really made me feel humble and grateful.

I used one of my Zendala templates and tangled it with Paradox. I then scanned and printed three more copies so I could experiment with colour schemes.
Med grädde på bordet kan festen börjar redan innan första våfflan serveras. Gott med våfflor – det var ett tag sen sist. De inledande kaffe-baily-grädde drinkarna gick ner de också, och satt fint i vintervädret. Ja, för idag är det
Active Assignment Weekly: In Need of Restoration
A view inside the old Laurel Art Center on Main Street in Laurel, MD. I got up close to the plate glass window and cupped a hand around the lens to minimize reflections. Tweaked the levels in post to emphasize the shadows a touch.
Main Street is always interesting because even though some of it is always in decay, other parts are continuously being renewed. The Laurel Art Center was the best place to get art supplies for many years.

The offices of Journal & Topics newspapers, the chain of weekly newspapers covering northwestern and northern suburbs of Chicago. Since Pioneer Press' Des Plaines Times shut down, Des Plaines Journal, the company's flagship newspaper, has been the only newspaper serving the city - and it served Des Plaines with vigilance and vigor.
The other newspapers cover their respective cities/villages decently. Usually, there is one dedicated staff reporter per town (though, in some cases, the reporter winds up serving two), and editors have been known to double as reporters. The chain does have its own dedicated film critic, which is becoming a bit of a rarity in the suburban chain. Journal & Topics newspapers are known for in-depth political investigations, decent business reporting and loads and loads of advertising supplements.
Seriously - even Pioneer Press' newspapers' sections aren't quite as hefty.
The company is headquartered near downtown Des Plaines. If you go inside... well, you wouldn't be able to get very far, but you will be able to buy the latest issue of any newspaper the company publishes. Which, personally, I found to be pretty handy.
Aside from Des Plaines Journal, the company publishes:
Arlington Hts. Journal
Buffalo Grove Journal,
Elk Grove Journal
Glenview Journal
Golf Mill Journal
Mt. Prospect Journal
Niles Journal
Northwest Journal
Palatine Journal
Park Ridge Journal
Prospect Hts. Journal
Rolling Meadows Journal
Rosemont Journal
Suburban Journal
Wheeling Journal
