03/52: Revenge of Conan

April 15th - 22nd

For this week it was kind of difficult to get a good idea for this project, and since I'm not artistic in the least I decided to use one of my kats; Conan the Barbarian.

She's actually quite sweet and still a kitten. However, I had her in the natural light of the veranda windows and kept trying to get a clear shot of her eye.

I finished the shoot and because she kept moving, most of the shots were blurry and not at all what I wanted, but since we had a live show that night, I couldn't stick around waiting for her to sit still.

So... I figured I'd just use one of those shots, got show ready and headed out on my bike to the venue. After getting home quite late after our show, I slept on it and woke up not at all happy with the shots!

Poor Conan was used again. This time, I blackmailed her with fish while Ninja, my black Kat, watched from the sidelines.

This time was heaps better! Shutter speed, aperture, lighting, focus and she was much more into it.

Thankfully there were heaps to choose from, but this was the one that seemed so out of character for her and full of emotion; and because of that, I went for it. I'm so glad that I didn't settle. There's still a lot of learning and a lot of practice to go before I get anywhere as good as D-Chan.

Here's to hoping you guys had a great weekend!!!

Late getting ready for work, late doing my 52 weeks ... LATE LATE LATE!

Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair...my 3.5 year old has never had a haircut and is quite happy about it! She is the age where princesses, unicorns and all things fairytale are real and she thinks cutting hair would make her a little bit less of a princess. Who am I to take that away?

: )

22 weeks! Getting bigger and getting heavier!

Unfortunately, getting more sore too!

The great part though is how well I can feel moving, kicking, and rolling!

I didn't the baby would get bigger and stronger that quickly!

June 27- July 3

I've been wanting to do a candle photo shoot for awhile now, and here it is! Summer definitely makes me put this project off, so I'm a few weeks behind. I can't believe it's already July. I'm having the best time with my sister. So this was a fun long exposure shoot, and I love how it turned out. I've been working a lot at a job I hate. Lifeguarding at a water park. It is becoming unbearable, especially during the week long heat wave of 100+ degrees. And rude guests. Urggg, hopefully this time next year I'll be interning somewhere.

This photo is extra funny because I do actually have a twin, but this is me x2, I promise.

I wish flickr wouldn't tell me how many views each photo has. It makes me feel like poo.

Well this week was definitely the week for dslr owners, dof no bother to them. Trying to get any decent dof with a fully auto p&s was trying, very trying!! :-). Anyway narrowed it down to 6 shots, presented them to my focus group and this one came out on top:-)

Check out all 6 of this weeks contenders in my set Week #4 - DOF and let me know if I chose the right one!

My sister and I spent every summer of our childhood with my grandpa. Some of my very best memories include him and his country home. He was full of life and had more energy than my 10 year old self. When he was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and died shortly after at 62, I learned just how fragile life was. I was heartbroken. Though he never met any of his great grandchildren, he would have loved them all, but I have a sneaking suspicion that he would be have been especially fond of this one. She is ornery, makes the most out of every moment and lives life on her terms - just like he did.

Week 36 : Abstract

Let me start by saying, "what the hell!" I tried to get rid of those dark corners but they are still showing up. That's annoying.

I feel like this shot, along with the title somewhat represent my work ethic on the Project 52 over the last few weeks. Though it might look differently, the last three weeks worth of pictures have actually come within the last week. I had not been keeping up with the project like I should have been. This shot also took minimal effort. I didn't use any strobes for this, I just used the available sunlight outside (which was quite a bit this past weekend). So now I am caught up pretty much. It is week 39 right now, so I just have to take another one this week to stay up to date. I am also almost up to my free 200 photo limit. I guess I will have to start deleting some pics pretty soon or pay the price...literally.

So, i wrote that first write up while half asleep, probably not the best idea! i will keep it but yeah...

What i wanted to say...

After meeting the fashion photographer David Poole this week i was inspired by his work and the work of others he showed us and the way they create what they want to create, not following the trends of fashion but experimenting to create there work.

This is where this came from, i was experimenting with lighting and used my desk lamp here, i have others from this shoot aswell, im going to edit and see if there is anything else i want to put up.

Have a good week, around this time next week :)

"I wanted to experiment with using lighting i have, so this was just a desk lamp. The harsh shadows i was influenced by NYLON magazine, which i have been getting recently (after i found out they sold it in my SU shop).

After my little fashion project i wanted to show shoes again and i just played around a small but on photoshop to give it this feel."

This is Darri, he is 20 years old and lives in Akranes. We went out after dark to (hopefully) take some cool night shots lit with a monolight. Went first to a graveyard and then to this underground passage with all that graffitti in it. I have always wanted to do a "multiplicity" shot and thought this was a perfect opportunity to try it out. We did about a 30 different poses against this fence and I thought these 5 worked out best for this photo. I know maybe some of the poses could have been better thought out but I am pretty happy with the results as this is the first time I have tried something like this.

Techically taken the 4th of June but it was just after midnight so I let that slide, we couldn´t find time to shoot any other time during the week :)

Lighting was ambient + 1 bowens monolight with a 75° softlite reflector from my right side, every shot was lit the same way, I think that is the only way to do this convincingly. Used a tripod of course, otherwise it would have been nearly impossible to have the images overlap well.
