Once I saw a photo of an African sunset. I was sooo amazed by the variety of red tones. I tried to reproduce it...but when I'll find the original, I'll do it for you! ;))

We all very much enjoyed our week at Grandmom's but Olive was so happy to be back home. She missed her toys. I feel like she grew a month in that short week's time and when we got home she was ready to show off all her new skills. When I look at her now, I see less baby than ever before. Her already present personality seems to be growing by the minute. I see the joy and excitement in her face now when we show her something new and that makes us want to show her everything! I hope this enthusiasm for new experiences stays with her. One of our biggest goal as parents is to raise her to be curious.
With this is mind, I've struggled to give her the freedom and environment she needs to explore and challenge herself. It's hard to let her out of my sight when I've been hovering nearby for so many months but I know it's important to let her crawl around that corner. This weekend we worked on totally baby proofing the downstairs so we can begin to let go a little more. I've had to remind myself that you don't always have to follow the rules when it comes to making the right decisions for your child. A small example of this is how we are handling Gymboree. For months I've been taking her from station to station, as you're supposed to. Now that she's more confident in getting around, I let her explore while I stand back at a distance. It's fun to see what interests her and what she'll choose to do. Sometimes I worry that I look like an uninvolved mom or that I'm not following the rules but I've realized that Olive needs to do things at her own pace and that if I follow her lead more, she'll flourish.
Sustainability Week is a Switzerland-wide initiative, which is the brainchild of VSFN, the Swiss Association of Student Organizations for Sustainability. In joining VSFN, Les Roches has scored a number of firsts: it is the first private school, the first hospitality school and the first school in Valais to become part of this fast-growing movement.
“This is our first Sustainability Week and our goal is to raise students’ awareness of the need to behave more responsibly towards our environment,” Says Paulo Macarrao, Sustainability Officer at Les Roches.
Valais Sustainability Week included a clothes swap, lectures, panel discussions and workshops with guest speakers such as Katie Jepson, from the UK’s National Union of Students, and Johannah Bernstein, who has advised national governments, international NGOs, and UN organizations on a wide range of global sustainability issues within the United Nations system of multilateral diplomacy.

Not sure what's happened here. It's not the wash stage as it's actually in the emulsion... Maybe it's the Diafine...

Week 3: 52 Weeks For dogs
I wanted to start out with a simple portait of him. This is his typical "I'm sitting on the sofa" look. I will get more creative as the weeks go by (hopefully!). I started late and don't want to miss the deadline for this week.

(I decided I like this a bit better with a square crop and border, so I reuploaded.)
I'm not really a fan of this. I hate that the top of my head is cut off, and the background is just absolutely awful. I have to get out of this room, dorm rooms are horrible places for taking photos, but it just keeps raining! Anyway I had a lot of fun editing this actually, and I tried a bunch of different things, but then when I compared it to the original they looked almost identical! So I'm not sure exactly what happened there. Hopefully I'll be able to take something outside next week.
Oh and press L, it at least looks a bit better that way, and not as sharp.
The My Four Hens Project 52 theme this week is simplicity which really resonated with me since life has been exceedingly complex of late. I thought of many different types of shots that might have worked… but this week, like most weeks, beat me up a bit. So this shot is a result of trekking out behind my house this afternoon and getting down to the ground. These tiny wildflowers are sprouting up everywhere and they hardly deserve a second glance since they look kind of like a weed. But look what happens when you get close with a macro…
Looking at this image makes me feel peaceful in my soul. The simple lines and colors are rich with detail and texture. I have a feeling I’ll be looking at this photo a lot in the near future. We met with Dominic’s psychologist this week and got the results of all the tests, assessments, and evaluations. Dominic does indeed have ADHD, mixed type, moderate, as well as dysthymia which is a low grade depression. Our next step is to get in with the psychiatrist (booking in March and waiting on a call back) and meeting with the school administration for a 504 plan and a BIP. Dominic’s reaction surprised me; he actually seemed relieved. I can imagine that carrying the burden of these severe behavior problems would weigh heavy on him and realizing that he’s not fundamentally at fault would be very reassuring. I’ll write a separate post soon about the appointment and all the rest of the information… remind me to fill you in about what his TAG teacher told me when she called this week.
Thanks for looking!
