The sky throughout most of our winter has been overcast. The sun has been mostly absent.
Well, what a pleasant change ... this morning it was lovely and sunny which is always nice so I managed a good walk ~ although there was quite a change, late afternoon!!

The Flickr Lounge-Weather Report
This photo was taken in the morning when it was a bit foggy. That's Cornell University on the hill.
I was tossing up about posting this photo as I took it last week and didn't think it was now relevant.
Silly me, of course it is relevant because now the Queen's Baton is trotting round Wales, England and Scotland before being presented to the Queen at the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in July.
Inside the baton (a bit like the Olympic Torch) is a message that the Queen popped in which she will then read at the opening.
Shane and I were at Carrick-a-reed at the crack of dawn for the start of its journey in Northern Ireland and were extremely surprised that aside from the official party, a couple of police officers, a BBC reporter and camera man, we were the only two actually there to witness the event.
We didn't go down to the bridge because it is quite a long walk and I now have to walk with a walking stick (visions of me falling arse over tit as its a rough trail), so instead went to where I think is a much better view.
Got to give Clive "Thistle", the official mascot of the Games a big pat on the back because crossing the rope bridge is hairy enough at the best of times without having to wear a costume that gives one limited vision.
At least there wasn't any wind as even a half way decent breeze can start rocking the bridge.
Once upon a time, when the Atlantic Salmon were plentiful and did their yearly run to their spawning ground, fisherman used to hole up on the Island.
Back then, in the early part of the 19th Century, the bridge only used to have one piece of rope and only on one side for the fishermen to cling on to AND, they would be carrying their nets, provisions and even two man boats.
Breed them tough in Northern Ireland!!
I am soooo ticked off because my Lupus has gone into overdrive since Christmas and I am now extremely limited in what I can do. In the thirty plus years I have had Lupus, this is the first time I have had such an extended period of going downhill and its been a very scary time for me.
Oh well, not dead yet and and when the time comes and I am unable to walk, I can always cause havoc on a mobility scooter!

Now it has stopped snowing and the sun is back again.

On the island of Langeoog . Wide beach during low tide - perfect to fly a kite!
Langeoog is one of the seven inhabited East Frisian Islands at the edge of the Lower Saxon Wadden Sea in the southern North Sea. It is located between Baltrum Island (west), and Spiekeroog (east). The name 'Langeoog' means 'Long Island' in the Low German dialect.
Langeoog is - nothing but sand. The beach and the dunes are eroded by the sea in the western part of the Island. In the last 50 years Langeoogs western end has moved several hundred meters to the east. Things like this happen on every East Frisian island - some islands moved so far that the town had to be rebuilt several times.

Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) plans heat lockdowns starting at 27°C
Due to man-made climate change and the 2000% increase in the CO2 content of the air we breathe, the risk of dying from sudden heat death or suffering a lifelong disability is 400% higher than 10 years ago, especially among vulnerable groups of the population.
The bill is expected to be passed by the Bundestag before the end of June 2023.
A climate warning app, which is being developed with taxpayers' money at a cost of 1.2 billion euros, is to inform citizens* about the respective danger situation, and what measures to take:
Bans on going out, regional shutdown of the power grid, blacking out windows, bans on exercise, going out and sports, bans on sexual activity, absolute abstinence from meat, singing, etc.
Violations of the protective measures are registered via the app and punished with high fines.
This is done solely for the benefit and protection of the citizens,
to mitigate the effects of the climate catastrophe as much as possible.
After all, it is about the continuity of humanity,
said the Minister of Health.

I always wondered during weather reports why the weathe person doesn't simply look out the window and adjust his/her broadcasted report to the conditions outside.
How many times have rain or snow beaten against your window, and the local weather report suggests it's a great day for a family trip to the beach or such other outside activity.
I saw this scene one afternoon. The skies had darkened and the lights of the WCCO tower come on. The early reports of clear skies remained unchanged.
It was too good to pass up this photo.
That’s one way of describing our recent cold snap. (Americans still use Fahrenheit in their weather reports.)
