A sepia toned picture through the washing machine door.

Last week, when I did the washing, the machine was making ominous grinding noises; today a chap came to look at it. "Mm, new machine," he said. "The bearings have gone."

So on-line I went to ao.com and ordered a new one - it comes tomorrow … hey ho :)

Day 270

taken on time, posted a day late, due to being away.

Not my best manipulation...but I thought it was fun to think I would have to trap myself in order to get clean. :D

This is what I love about New York: dance performances in laundromats.

I'm gonna send him to outta space, to find another race.

We're heading for Italy very soon, so mom said it was time to wash to look our best!

Contrary to most plushes, we kind of like this washing thing... and the washing machine is actually kind of fun! The outside looks really weird from the inside! :o)

Another roll of cheap expired 35mm film, first put in washing machine, then dried, before shooting.

A random snap of my Kenmore washer (and adjacent dryer) while doing a quick fix on the lid switch. This is a 90 series unit manufactured in July 1998 in Clyde, OH. It is a Whirlpool unit made under contract for the Kenmore brand.

Lid switch failure was a somewhat common issue on these machines as they aged. The main issue seems to stem from the switch casing coming loose after years of vibration and jolts from regular machine use. Once that switch stops registering the machine will not drain or spin for safety reasons. While replacement switches can be purchased, another option is to simply unscrew the existing switch from the frame, pull it out slightly, and tighten a cable-tie around it to tighten up the casing and internal components. Note; if attempting make sure the machine is unplugged.

While I'm no appliance tech, I certainly appreciate the simplicity of these older units and easier fixes like this being possible. Hopefully this unit will keep running for a few years. The life expectancy on a washer is 10 years, so already ahead of the game in that regard.

Cuba's Casas Particulars (7)

Lodging in a casa particular can be one of the most interesting experiences you can enjoy during your trip to Cuba. Aside from having the chance to meet travelers from around the world you will know the Cuban reality from within, living with a Cuban familiy. Another important argument is the price. Casas particulares are the most economical option for your stay in Cuba.

Thanks guys....this was "Explored" #200

I was practicing photoshop again...NO, SHE IS NOT IN THE WASHER WITH THE DOOR CLOSED!!!!!!!! I photographed her with the door open and warned her of the dangers! I'm not too happy with the actual picture of the washer, its not sharp enough and I don't like all the reflections....but its just practice!
