This little island town must be one of the most colourful places in the world.
Traditionally, the main source of income used to be fishing and, as a result, there were lots of fishing boats sailing in and out of its harbour. Legend has it that the residents began painting their homes in vibrant colours so that the fishermen could see them even in thick fog and avoid crashing into the shore.
Since then, the town has kept up the tradition and continues to paint its houses in a huge variety of different colours. However, if any of the residents want to paint or change their house colour, they have to acquire a special permission.
I hung the washing out for the first time today - wonderful!
Off to see Alice in Wonderland tonight - yippee!
Spent some time on the beach this afternoon and as ever it was glorious. I gave the Sigma 60mm an airing, as I don't think I've used it at all this year … shame on me, coz it's a nice lens.
Time takes its crazy toll
and how does your mirror grow
you better watch yourself when you jump into it
'cause the mirror's gonna steal your soulI wonder how it came to be my friend
that someone just like you has come again
you'll never, never know how close you came
until you fall in love with the diamond rain
throw all his trash away
look out he's here to stay
your mirror's gonna crack when he breaks into it
and you'll never never be the same
look into his eyes and you can see
why all the little kids are dressed in dreams
I wonder how he's gonna make it back
when he sees that you just know it's make-belief
blood crystalized as sand
and now I hope you'll understand
you reflected into his looking glass soul
and now the mirror is your only friend
look into his eyes and you will see
that men are not alone on the diamond sea
sail into the heart of the lonely storm
and tell her that you'll love her eternally
time takes its crazy toll
mirror fallin' off the wall
you better look out for the looking glass girl
'cause she's gonna take you for a fall
look into his eyes and you shall see
why everything is quiet and nothing's free
I wonder how he's gonna make her smile
when love is running wild on the diamond sea
I love this capture. The expressions on the girls' faces are priceless. I like the angle and perspective of the shot as well.
Very pleased with capturing this duck washing and drying itself under the bridge in Monmouth (River Monnow) - quite hard to get them sharp / in focus when they're flapping about quite so quickly.
The inside of my washing machine.
"The first electric-powered washing machine (the Thor) was introduced in 1908, by the Hurley Machine Company of Chicago, Illinois. Alva J. Fisher was the inventor. The machine was a drum type with a galvanized tub and an electric motor, for which a patent was issued on Aug. 9, 1910 (US patent #966677)"

Cloth diapers were first mass produced only about 20 years earlier. Disposable diapers wouldn't be invented until almost 50 years later. I just can't wrap my mind around doing all the laundry by hand, and not having disposable diapers.
