While walking at the San Joaquin River Nwr, I noticed this walnut tree. I am wondering now if it could possibly be a Black walnut tree? It was taken in Northern California.
With no top and few limbs, our 30+ year-old tree will become firewood and turned items from the woodworkers of Rapid City.
This is one of three studies I made of the light and shadows on this young walnut tree in my Westwood, KS back yard. I took the photo in early July, 2008.
This photo is not sideways. The down-facing Nuthatch is about ready to pound the gum tree seed that it wedged in the bark. White-breasted Nuthatch (Sitta carolinensis)

The Hayton Walnut tree, Walnut Field, Hayton, Cumbria
This tree is about 250 years old, and is the largest ever walnut recorded in Cumbria. It's also in the top ten largest of its species in the UK
