The Temple of Heaven (Chinese: 天坛; pinyin: Tiāntán) is an imperial complex of religious buildings situated in the southeastern part of central Beijing. The complex was visited by the Emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties for annual ceremonies of prayer to Heaven for a good harvest. The Temple of Heaven was inscribed as a World Heritage site in 1998 and was described as "a masterpiece of architecture and landscape design which simply and graphically illustrates a cosmogony of great importance for the evolution of one of the world's great civilizations..." as the "symbolic layout and design of the Temple of Heaven had a profound influence on architecture and planning in the Far East over many centuries."

The foreground is a "blue hour" photo. The Milky Way can't be seen in this location due to light pollution from the city of Lincoln so the blue hour photo was composited with a Milky Way photo taken at another time and location here in Nebraska.

I manually adjusted the white balance on a white sheet of paper under the city lights, because the automatic white balance, or via manually choosing a color temperature, was consistently weird and never satisfying with the color of the artificial lighting.
With the white balance manually set for the street lights, the clouds in the sky lit from below by that night's super moon suddenly looked stunningly magical.

Poe chose a raven as the central symbol in the story because he wanted a "non-reasoning" creature capable of speech. Because of its black plumage, croaking call, and diet of carrion, the raven has long been considered a bird of ill omen and of interest to creators of myths and legends.
Poe said the raven is meant to symbolize "Mournful and Never-ending Remembrance". "The Raven" made Edgar Allan Poe a household name almost immediately, and turned Poe into a national celebrity. Hence the National Park Service runs this site in Philly.
The Free Library of Philadelphia has on display a taxidermied raven that is reputed to be the very one that Dickens owned and that helped inspire Poe's poem.
A 40 floor apartment building in the Riverside district of Bangkok, Thailand. The photo was taken from the rooftop of an adjacent 26 floor hotel in order to get the perspective I wanted.
This hotel is beautifully designed and extremely well-managed. A delight to stay here because of the hotel itself, the staff and the location.

Abstracted double-exposed photo (varies in focal length) of the coking plant of the Zollverein colliery in Essen, Germany.
The coking plant is reflected in a pool of water in front of it, the whole image is turned sideways and significantly overexposed in post-processing to abstract the image.

Earlier this week, I was walking around the neighbourhood when I got caught in the snow. This made me wonder if I could wake up earlier than usual, take my drone to Tempelhof and try to capture the park and the old airfield covered in snow.
On Friday, I took my drone to Tempelhof. Besides the freezing cold, it was great to go there in the morning. The snow was still untouched on the ground, and I got some cool pictures of everything.
This shot is from downtown Bar Harbor. This "tall ship" takes people around the bay. I thought it would be a great subject. This was after it's last voyage of the day. The challenge here was to make an interesting image using the ship. The rocks on the beach made for something to anchor the foreground and kind of creates some leading lines to the ship. It's also more interesting to me than just a shot of a boat. I used 3 images here for focus stacking since I was so close to the rocks. There was a lot of fog/clouds on this evening which created a very moody atmosphere.
Close to the summer solstice, a rate and special sight can be seen in Munich. From the right location, the sun then passes right behind the belltowers of the iconic Frauenkirche. Coincidentally, the rooftop platform if the Munich Public Observatory (Volkssternwarte München) is such a location. A 1000 mm telephoto lens on my APS-C camera just had the perfect field if view to witness it. This is a single frame from the time lapse I recorded (coming soon!), Where the sun was exactly behind the towers. I found it particularly beautiful how it illuminated the windows of the belltowers as it was passing. The light clouds also gave this special atmosphere to the scene.

A breathtaking sunrise over the spectacular and unforgettable monastery of Mont Saint-Michel, an island distanced by an endless horizon of sand and ocean.
Visiting this place was a bucket list dream come true. From the air, you can truly appreciate its construction, and almost gravity-defying cluster of buildings perched upon one another.
