This set documents the commemoration of World Aids Day in Göteborg, December 1, 2007.
Similar to gatherings across the globe, people joined together to celebrate, to raise awareness and to remember.
In Göteborg, RFSU (The Swedish Association for Sexuality Education) organized a set of events in one of the popular downtown areas filled with restaurants and bars, including a samba band, outdoor projections highlighting key statistics on AIDS. Local bars joined in by offering red drinks and providing patrons with red ribbons.
Monthly, Göteborg's English language magazine, played a part in the evening's festivities as well, setting up a street studio outside one of the bars and asking people if they would be willing to be photographed with a candle as part of the commemoration.
While the weather cooperated (ever so briefly, ever so rarely, ever so fleetingly...) in terms of being dry, the same could not be said for the ever-present winter winds. Hence, the candle never stayed lit. (Just imagine it though!)
Some may be wondering about the inspiration for the set. The idea is kindly borrowed from Stpiduko and Made in Sheffield. Thinking some about how to make this look interesting at night was influenced by a fantastic photo taken by Beautifoto.
For strobists among you, all of the portraits (with one exeception) featured an SB-800 to camera left.
Enjoy.

Ok, there was a nasty wind and I didn't have the long focal, only the prime 50mm, so I couldn't get a closer shot of the bright white/red flag they put up for the Aids Day.
