A colourful Heron that is easily distinguishable from the others due to its slender body and darker colour. A very shy bird, it favours densely vegetated habitats like reed beds where it hunts for a range of prey including fish, rodents, frogs and insects, either stalking them or standing waiting in ambush.
California Ground Squirrel (Spermophilus beecheyi)

"The California ground squirrel can be found in south central Oregon, western Washington and most parts of California... The majority of the California ground squirrel's diet is made up of plant parts like leaves, stems, flowers, seeds, berries and fruits. Occasionally, it will eat insects and small animals... The California ground squirrel is diurnal, that means it is most active in the daytime. It lives in colonies, but the squirrels tend not to socialize with each other. Several squirrels may share a burrow, but they each will have their own entrance. Burrows are made under a tree, log or rock. The California ground squirrel can climb trees, but it spends most of its time on the ground."

Reflecting back to last year and the end of 2016 when I was treated to regular sightings of these occasional winter migrants.
Looks like we will have to wait now until the end of the year to have a chance of seeing these beautiful birds.

I took this photo of Filou when he had just woken up from a nap on the sofa. Filou has an unusally sound sleep for a cat and when he wakes up he is often quite confused as if he needs some time to remember who he is, where he is and what is going on. :)
Well I hope everyone in the UK has enjoyed the Bank Holiday weekend and all this glorious weather we are having. And to my international Flickr friends, hope you had a lovely weekend too :)
The garden is now starting to look like a spring garden and the Lilly of the Valley in the front garden is looking lush! Only planted a few bulbs about 5 years ago, but it clearly likes its positive as is thriving nicely :)

- Trinidad is located on the Caribbean coast, Province of Sancti Spiritus, south-central Cuba. Founded in 1514, this Colonial Town is a Unesco World Heritage site since 1988.

I'm checking in with this upload to say I'm still around. Work has been busy, so I'll be uploading less over the next few weeks.
I've taking this shot during a recent trip to Snowy Mountains and Mount Kosciusko. To get the extra long exposure I had to slap on my polarizer, which was the only filter a brought with me.
