>>>>> Check out my Friday the 13th Gallery!!
So today's picture is not quite so sunny and cheery as yesterday's. It is Friday the 13th and so I thought I would share something appropriate for the day.
I took this at an abandoned hospital in Gary, Indiana while on a photoshoot with my friend Chris Nitz. (The premises were entered legally with permission from the city.) This was one scary place as you can probably tell from the picture. The windows were filled with bullet holes, the walls and ceilings were torn apart, and at times you needed a flashlight just to see what was on the floor in front of you. This room in particular was super dark, since it had no windows and no access to any ambient light.
I was fascinated by the scene in this room. Not only was the wall torn apart and the wallpaper peeling, but the floor was littered with interesting debris that seemed to tell a story, in particular the fire hose that was partially unwound. We will probably never know what happened here!
TECHNICAL EDIT: Many people have asked me about this so I thought I would share. The light and color are not something that I did in post-processing. The room was completely dark, so I added in my own stationary light source into a hole in the wall and that is what created the effect. I didn't move it around or do any light painting. It is a 3-image HDR composite which helps give it a nice depth, and then I darkened it up a bit in Photoshop.

We spent the day with my niece and family yesterday. Ralph thought I was spending far too much time watching her new kitten, Rory, playing with a feather so he decided it was his turn for a photograph
This young Northern Cardinal was in the Rose of Sharon tree trying to eat the flower buds that were just beginning to grow.
Guess when you're young there's a whole lot to explore and learn about. And eating Rose of Sharon buds is one of those things you just gotta do!
Would you be afraid to take my hand and go with me? I promise I wont bite or make you fear and be afraid of me. I only want Love, Love and more Love...

As soon as I saw this week's theme an image came into my mind. It was taken in March 2011 and has been uploaded before, but I have reprocessed it today for the group. Ishmael got left behind when the rest of us went through a gate, I turned around and this is what I saw - HSoS!
Well I'm going to bore you all again with even more images from that last visit up to Seaham
I came away with so many images I was fairly happy with and as unfortunately we don't seem to be getting away as much as we used to, this is what I have to work with
I've said many times previously how I often see faces in the waves. On this occasion I think the wave looks rather like a sea monster, rising from the deep
The conditions that morning although not great to start with and one or two togs seemed to call it a day, due to the rain. We stuck it out, as the waves continued to pound their way toward shore
Then from no where we got this beautiful light, backlighting the mist/rain as it headed out to sea
It provided a wonderful atmosphere, conditions you don't often get
So here it is, the creature from beneath
Recommendation I keep forgetting to mention - Billy & Molly - Disney Plus
Its a story about an otter on Shetland
You can't not be touched, I cried at one point
So worth watching, if you've not already
On this 2016 June afternoon, I had scoured the cliffs to find the two young male fledglings. Finally, I spotted them through a narrow gap in the trees. To get this perspective I scaled the side of the cliff, mounted a rental 600mm lens on my tripod, and, balancing carefully as a monopod, eked out a tiny viewing window. In this frame, a fledgling peregrine peers longingly up at his brother (out of frame on the ledge above) who managed to snatch a meal from Dad during a food exchange. Eventually, the foodless fledgling flew up to the ledge above and snagged a bit of meat.

I met a professor who used elaborate gear to take gigapixel composites of flat concrete surfaces, with texture but without perspective. Intentional wordplay on “concrete” and “abstract”. A how-to book from a local library said the essential challenge in abstraction was division of the plane. This guy I just googled,
thevirtualinstructor.com/blog/abstract-non-objective-art
distinguishes Representational (realistic), Abstract (distorting reality), and Non-Objective (devoid of reality). Maybe Hilla Rebay would agree.
