Chilterns, Hertfordshire. Fuji X-Pro1. The lens I am using is the Samyang telephoto lens which on my Fuji is the equivalent of a 450 mm lens. The distance between camera and object is probably 8 meters, so "close-up" may be a misnomer. It is also a mirror lens (tiny, almost weightless) that (ironically) works best for close-ups.
I took this photo 2-3 years ago and finally got the film back. I remember sitting in the water here and my camera didn't have its memory card, so i had no record of this amazing sunset until now. I was a little reluctant to post this because i've never seen this photo done in this way, and I'm sure the composition will be copied, although everyone copies everything nowadays (myself included). It feels like there is this path between the sky and the clouds, which is reflected back up, and here is this pathway between the two worlds.
Within, without, open, closed, finite, infinite, light, dark, weight, weightlessness, temporal, eternal, solid, void, earthly, heavenly, simple yet complex.

The contrast of a metal artwork appears effortlessly light, adding to the permanence of the artwork with the contrast to the fragility of the human body and the delicate gesture of holding out a reflective ball.
It's time I went down to the beach again to have some more driftwood fun. This is one from a while back when I decided to try and balance this fairly hefty tree that had washed up. it's funny as I walk along the strand line looking for inspiration some bits of wood just scream out to be used. A finger ring and two earrings sewn around a paper core, with fine coloured threads. The earrings are almost weightless, so tiny and light - and lovely to wear!

I'm always fascinated by the sewing craft traditions of Japan, and eager to learn about them - though I am hopeless when it comes to doing even the simplest sewing and needlework myself!
Luckily, I have a skilled and talented friend who keeps me up-to-date with her adventures and journeys! And that is how I've added a new Japanese word to my vocabulary in 2020 ... Yubinuki. It began as a traditional paper-and-silk thimble ring used by Japanese stitchers, often around 5cm in circumference, and doing the same protective job as our metal thimbles. More recently it has developed new designs, and finger rings and earrings are two of the off-shoots represented here. Laurie, who sent me these gifts, has more about how they are made ...

Una toma nocturna del edificio del Auditorio y Palacio de Congresos El Batel de Cartagena (Murcia), ubicado junto al puerto y construído con un diseño vanguardista, inspirado en la tradición marinera de la ciudad,y que fue inaugurado en el año 2011.
Su apariencia externa se halla definida por líneas rectas, evocando a los contenedores de los barcos apilados en el muelle, así como a la rectitud del cantil del puerto y a la calma del mar que le rodea.
Su original estructura, caracterizada por la ausencia de pilares, origina un interior de grandes espacios diáfanos y luminosos, suscitando una sensación de ligereza, recordando la ingravidez del fondo del mar.
Los aledaños del edificio, acondicionados con tablones de abeto imitando la cubierta de los barcos, y con variada vegetación, conforman un agradable espacio de ocio que permite disfrutar en magno modo del paseo marítimo.

A night capture of El Batel Auditorium and Conference Centre in Cartagena (Murcia, Spain), built in 2011 it's a state-of-the art building,based on the marine traditions of the city. Its location next to the port and sea, influence the design.
The exterior is dominated by straight lines, similar to the containers of the boats stacked in the docks, the straightness of the edge of the port and the calm of the surrounding sea.
The complex structure, characterised by the absence of pillars, creates an interior with large open areas and bright effect, reminiscent of the weightlessness of the deep sea.
The interior is a bright, translucent and delicate space which is connected by a walkway of gentle ramps which take us around the whole building.
The grandeur and luminosity of the interiors make El Batel Auditorium and Conference Centre an airy building which transmits the harmony and serenity of a calm sea.
The surroundings of the building, decorated with spruce boards and varied vegetation, comprises a leisure area which allows us to enjoy the seafront promenade.

she was lying on the old city wall, folded into herself, her arm across her stomach like a quiet anchor. below, the parc del mar shimmered in heat, above her, weightless but monumental, floated la seu — the cathedral of palma. her breath was slow, matching the rhythm of the sea behind the wall, as if she had paused time for a moment only she could own.
That relaxed buzz of total stupidity...weightlessness...almost numbing to the brain and body...still hot..embers burning..but a cool refreshing satisfaction washes over...white hot..glowing..
