Grew up in a classic geometrical home.
Triangle on top, square on the bottom.
Lots of rigid right angles.
Went to a typical elementary school for shapes.
Long rectangle two parallel sides
Half long, half short.
But, the cloudy rectangle
Was quite different from all of his friends
Who, of course, wanted to grow up to be either
Architects or fixtures in buildings or
Colorful abstract modern art paintings
Measurable by protractors and rulers.
Instead, this polygon
Wanted to stop being so defined
Grow a little fluff on top and in back
Float away as part of the sky.
Like a passing thought
When you remember your childhood
But instead of remembering
The space that confined you
The definitions that defined you
The facts that seemed to bind you
You remember the feeling of being
Loved and weightless
Limitless and immeasurable
Like a line that goes on on in both directions forever.
In this very vast blue world.

Over and over
Waves of frightening feelings
Floating, weightless, I'm willing
My will keeps bending and breaking, honey
Hold me, trust me
Let me ride in your love all night, babe
Hold me, touch me
I wanna die in your love all night, babe
Lost in your light, baby
I wanna stay right here all night, baby
Take a load for free
Take a load off Fanny
And .....
Put the load right on me "

The night moved like a song only one of them could hear.
One danced, wild and weightless, as if the concrete were a stage and the streetlights her spotlight.
The other sat still, thumb scrolling, eyes fixed on a world held behind glass.
There was rhythm in the distance between them.
Laughter that might have been shared.
A bottle left sweating on stone.
A friendship pausedโbriefly, wordlesslyโwhile the city shimmered behind them.
Cologne after dark. When motion and stillness make their quiet claims.
It was the annual Hull Freedom Festival this weekend though because of Marys ankle injury we spent less time at the festival than usual. Freedom this year was lucky with the weather three hot and sunny days .
I spent the afternoon in the city centre seeing a variety of performers the outstanding ones were a Brussels based company Tripotes la Compagnie who performed an amazing acrobatic show called ENCORE UNE FOIS. This included using a double spring board that literally sent the performers into orbit.
If you have the time a video of this performance is worth a look

P.s. Maryโs ankle improving quickly she can now manage short walks well

Yesterday was the first Advent. And then I realized that the Christmas season ist just around the corner again. A time that should actually be marked by contemplation and love. Unfortunately, this period is often rather hectic and stressful.
So I thought to myself, there is still a little time. Let's treat ourselves to some lightness in the coming week.
This little dove's tail, as it seems to float weightlessly from flower to flower, is meant to symbolize that and carry it to you.
And maybe together we can manage to preserve a bit of this feeling over the Christmas season.

In science and engineering, the weight of an object is the force acting on the object due to gravity.
Some standard textbooks define weight as a vector quantity, the gravitational force acting on the object. Others define weight as a scalar quantity, the magnitude of the gravitational force. Yet others define it as the magnitude of the reaction force exerted on a body by mechanisms that counteract the effects of gravity: the weight is the quantity that is measured by, for example, a spring scale. Thus, in a state of free fall, the weight would be zero. In this sense of weight, terrestrial objects can be weightless: ignoring air resistance, the famous apple falling from the tree, on its way to meet the ground near Isaac Newton, would be weightless.
In modern scientific usage, weight and mass are fundamentally different quantities: mass is an intrinsic property of matter, whereas weight is a force that results from the action of gravity on matter: it measures how strongly the force of gravity pulls on that matter. However, in most practical everyday situations the word "weight" is used when, strictly, "mass" is meant. For example, most people would say that an object "weighs one kilogram", even though the kilogram is a unit of mass. Source Wikipedia.
The British Chiropractic Association has been in the news recently with a study they did on men with back pain and their man bags.
Apparently 60% of men polled use a man bag and 66% of the men polled also have had back pain before. The man bags they wore had an average weight of 6.2kgs with a laptop usually making up the most weight in a bag. I use a laptop bag myself and, like the picture, I use a single strap over my shoulder type. So does it mean you have to get rid of the trendy man bag in order to avoid back ache and use a boring double strap school bag instead? Thatโs whatโs todayโs post is asking.
The best way to avoid pain from carrying a big bag is to simply carry less weight. Adults should carry no more than 10% of their body weight. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends children carry no more than 10% to 20% of their body weight. "Five percent is ideal," says chiropractor Dr. Kathryn Montgomery. Morning fog in the spring is like an old friend. Welcoming you with sights and smells that transport you back to your youth. walking to catch the bus to school, navigating through the wispy, yet unnaturally thick haze. Not much has changed, just perspective. As you grow older, wiser, you begin to see that this Appalachian mist isnโt just an ordinary fog, no, indeed this is just a cloud that had lost some altitude. Resting heavy on the mountains bellow, crashing like waves in slow motion, weightless, but beautiful as the first rays of the morning light washes over, giving that morning embrace.

One of the sadnesses of the lockdown measures during the COVID-19 pandemic is that there is so little movement from place to place. Having spent the last year in Woodstock, Oxfordshire, I anticipated seeing very much more of the area. Instead, I have remained largely in one place, my contribution to not spreading the virus; that, and a heavy workload have meant that I have seen less of the world than I intended this year.
The silver lining to that cloud is that one sees so very many shades of one place. One sees things anew, even as they seem to pall. It reminds me of a photographer I read of once, I forget the name, who had spent much of his life photographing a nearby beach in numerous seasons, finding subtleties that others might miss. There is a venerability and wisdom in it which is appealing in a world that normally moves far too much.
Here is a bridge, seen most days for the last nine months, half shrouded in mist one recent morning. I am not sure that I matched the medium and the subject. Rollei Superpan 200 is, I discovered belatedly, effectively an aerial photography film; developed in stock ID-11 (around 9'30, with frequent agitation, as I could find no precise information on this pairing), the film is one of very strong contrasts and precise detail. My initial excitement at such stark negatives wavered when I realised how many images had been rather marred by camera shake - a combination of shorter days, a slower film speed, the near-weightlessness of the Zeiss Ikon Nettar, and a deep press of the shutter button had conspired to defeat me.
This one, however, was salvageable. Originally 6x6, the unbroken grey of the sky and the less than interesting grass have been cropped out to give a greater prominence to the lake, bridge, and reflections.

If you like my photographs, why not consider buying a print at captures.life? I haven't yet finished building the site and putting in all of the terms and conditions and policies, but the bits that involve buying a print, having it delivered, and contacting me if anything isn't working or goes wrong are functioning just fine...
One single long exposure. No photoedition : straight out of the camera except for contrast/crop.
This is not really light painting, as there is no moving light source. It's open flash, but it's always fun to jump around.

I imagined myself floating weightless in the middle of a waveless sea. Moments, minutes, hours stretched lazily, between the future and the past, like strands of taffy twirled between the fingers of an alien god. The clouds were everywhere and nowhere, water was air and air was water-like. Then, in a blink of an eye, the alien forms rose up from what remained of my life. I laughed.

We climb down about 60 meters to get to the water in the abandoned mine. I feel almost weightless when I glide around on the water, a wonderful and strange feeling.

In the heart of the cosmos, where stars dance their eternal ballet, an evil presence lurked. It was none other than MEOWTRON, a cat of nefarious intent and a mustache to match his villainy. With a sly grin and a flick of his tail, he switches on the zero gravity tripping up our hero.
Undeterred, Flit quickly assesses the situation. Using her astrophysical expertise, she deftly navigates the weightless expanse, leveraging wires and floating debris as stepping stones to gain traction, and possibly an advantage.
Will Flit's cunning be enough to thwart MEOWTRONs' schemes, or would the cat's claws prove too sharp?

history is a record of hard lines and defended borders.
a long, complicated argument written in stone and steel.
but peace is not a treaty.
it is a brief, weightless moment.
a silent ceasefire in the endless noise.
it does not erase the borders below.
it simply reminds us that the sky is open,
and belongs to no one.
in a split second, he leaves the ground โ yet it's his shadow that truly takes off. stretching into the light like a myth reborn, this is not just a trick on pavement. it's the poetry of movement carved into silence, weightless and raw.

the path climbs, half in light, half in shadow. the walls, worn by time, lead the way to something unseen, a moment beyond the frame. a figure stands at the crest, burdened or weightlessโit's impossible to tell. the light decides, the darkness confirms.
shadows stretch like silent witnesses, consuming the ground, swallowing details, leaving only patterns of what was. the silence here is deafening, the geometry precise. in this place, the world feels measured, but the future remains uncertain.

The magnificent State Bed has what is known as a ' Flying Tester ' - that is the canopy appears to be weightless, but is actually supported from the ceiling.
From the shadow of domes in the city of domes,
A snowflake, a blizzard of one, weightless, entered your room
And made its way to the arm of the chair where you, looking up
From your book, saw it the moment it landed. That's all
There was to it. No more than a solemn waking
To brevity, to the lifting and falling away of attention, swiftly,
A time between times, a flowerless funeral. No more than that
Except for the feeling that this piece of the storm,
Which turned into nothing before your eyes, would come back, That someone years hence, sitting as you are now, might say:
"It's time. The air is ready. The sky has an opening."

Chilterns, Hertfordshire. Fuji X-Pro1. The lens I am using is the Samyang telephoto lens which on my Fuji is the equivalent of a 450 mm lens. The distance between camera and object is probably 8 meters, so "close-up" may be a misnomer. It is also a mirror lens (tiny, almost weightless) that (ironically) works best for close-ups.
I took this photo 2-3 years ago and finally got the film back. I remember sitting in the water here and my camera didn't have its memory card, so i had no record of this amazing sunset until now. I was a little reluctant to post this because i've never seen this photo done in this way, and I'm sure the composition will be copied, although everyone copies everything nowadays (myself included). It feels like there is this path between the sky and the clouds, which is reflected back up, and here is this pathway between the two worlds.
