Accident and Visualization..................those are the words I finally settled on. I often find myself caught in a torn world. One where straight forward photography (if there is such a thing LOL) and digital manipulation collide. I have read the contraversy many a time and have been intimidated into thinking that manipulated images are not "true" photography............I am over it and now love to see what I can do with an image. I have done some things on accident ...........and will probably never be able to recreate them again. And others I know exactly what I have done and love to try it on other images. For me this was a great excercise on reflection, and self discovery.
I found that I have grown since taking my first image, I have photographed many subjects with varying techniques..............
I hope to continue to be brave to try the new things that pop up in my brain, but I also don't want to lose the "true" side of this art form called photography :)

Just for fun, I downloaded and started playing with Azureus (a Java-based bittorrent client). It has some pretty nifty data visualization tools built-in; here are some screenshots for my future reference.
This is a behind-the-scenes visualization of my globemaker algorithm. Of course it is not a complete explanation.
The different coloured patches represent the individual Voronoi regions used to create this snowflake projection.
The black lines are not where the scissors would cut, but rather they represent the sort of "backbones" of the snowflake arms.

Jofish has been working on a great visualization for one of the studies we are doing in the group. I love the fact that we can derive so much (including gaps in our understanding) from it. And, as Jofish pointed out to me, because there is something makeshift about the production (the sheets are taped together, rather than printed from a long roll) it encourages people not to be afraid to scribble thoughts and other annotations on it. Fab.

Especially with regards to the proxy server tweets, users were hesitant to retweet the source of the message. This visualization displays the different tweets and those who attributed the retweeted message to the original person (those connected with lines) versus the majority who just passed the message along

Une demie frayeur en m'avançant sur la couche de neige qui recouvrait le lac de Tignes. Après m'être enfoncé jusqu'à la taille et sorti tant bien que mal, je décida d'adopter les procédures de survie (^^) et m'avança sur le ventre jambes écartées en répartissant mon poids sur la plus grande surface possible. le poids du sac de matériels n'aidant pas, je l'abandonna rapidement…
Retouche classique d'exposition et mise en valeur de certaines teintes bleutées de la neige qui ressortaient mal sur le cliché non-traité. Quelques retouches plus avancées (cf. mon article) mais très simples visant à effacer quelques flocons de neige et gouttes d'eau qui gênaient la lecture principale du sujet.

A little fear while walking on the snow layer of the Tigne lake. After being sunk for half the body, I decided to use survival technics (^^) and started crawling on the snow with legs wide opened to distribute my weight on a large area. The weight of my backpack was an issue too, so I rapidly left it on place.
About adjustments, we have basic things like exposure and enhancement of blue not as visible as in real on the raw picture. Then, some more advanced adjustments (see my blog post about the need of adjustments) to remove some snow flakes and water drops, that bother the reading of the picture.

Horizontal axis: distance. Ticks at 40 meters. Vertical axis: time. Ticks at 1 minute. I'm not sure which trip this is - I rummaged around the database until I found a route that clumped like this. It happens in about 1 out of 10 recorded trips. You can see at several points along the trip there are what appear to be traffic signals that change at the same time every day, on about a 1 minute period.
