The Paterson Great Falls, a part of the United States National Parks, where a visionary Alexander Hamilton once stood and visualize a new nation that would be a producer not a consumer as British rule had basically forbidden any significant manufacturing in the original 13 colonies. Paterson was at the heart of the Industrial Revolution and now the vestiges of this history are being preserved by the National Park Service and the City of Paterson. I never tire of photographing this wonderful natural wonder that is in this very urban of settings. - [x] #developportdev @gothamtomato @developphotonewsletter @omsystem.cameras #excellent_america #omsystem @bheventspace @bhphoto @adorama @tamracphoto @tiffencompany #usaprimeshot #tamractales @kehcamera @mpbcom @patersongreatfalls @nationalparkservice @newjerseyisntboring @newjerseyisbeautiful #omd #microfourthirds #micro43photography #newjerseyisntboring #newjerseyisbeautiful @passaiccountynj

When the light of day crosses with the evening dark, it is a moment of sheer magic. As an observer you are aware of a transition and can see the change that is occurring. It lasts for little more than an instant and for me, represents the passing of time. That instant that lies between the future and the past we term the present. Except that it is visualized through light.
The tree in the forefront caught my attention and how the light shone on one side giving it great dimension. It sits in that transition point where light and dark mingle and further represents the present. I do enjoy attempting to tell a story in my work, and this one is no exception.
Exposition of Max Pinckers in the old hospital chapel
(was part of Krasj, a 2 yearly art trail, which brings several modern artists together in several locations, spread over the city)
Max Pinckers is a Belgian documentary photographer, who became a nominee member of Magnum Photos in 2015. He grew up in Indonesia, India, Australia and Singapore.
How do you communicate, through photography, what it’s like to live in a city like Mumbai? A city of such variety, ethnically and economically, one of total poverty for so many and free of want for a few.
Traditionally, Western photographers have approached the city from a humanitarian perspective, using people – their expressions, gestures, moments of clarity – that might symbolize the social realities of the city.
Max Pinckers found a new way to visualize Mumbai. He photographed with a careful, cool composition, how human beings apply their creativity, how they problem solve, how, in the most basic ways, they use ingenuity to survive and overcome the hardships of their environment. Pinckers advocates a manifest subjective approach, which is made visible through the explicit use of theatrical lighting, stage directions or extras. Extensive research and diligent technical preparation are combined with improvisation to obtain lively, unexpected, critical, poetic and simultaneously documentary images.

Visualize yourself walking on the sand, listening to the water splash against the shore.
Visualize swimming, in the oceans, in the sky
Visualize sitting by a beach fire, warming up from the chilly air.
Visualize happiness that won't be suppressed, laughing.
It is the end of the day when the sun sets low, and the mood is sweet and peaceful.
When I saw this I wasn't sure what it was or what it represented as workers were finishing the installation. Since then I've learned that it represents data visualization it reflects the global impact of food production and consumption on the environment. Part of the "Around The Table" exhibit at the New York Botanical Garden. I still don't understand it but it's nice to look at.
I'm still trying to find the sweet spot, where serenity and beauty intersect. I think I'm getting close.

Natürlich glaub ich nicht an solch einen Schmarrn. Aber dann hat sie mir doch gezeigt, wo der Nikolaus wohnt. Ok, diese Wette hat sie gewonnen! ;o(

Of course I don't believe in such nonsense. But then she showed me where Santa Claus lives. OK, she won that bet! ;o(

I have seen this shot done a hundred times and wanted to give it a try. It was not as easy as it looks! Getting a ring to stand in a book and getting the right shadow is a bit tricky. I also wanted to find a page in the book that enhanced the image and I think I found one...:)
Gathered yesterday with a group of other flickr group members (Newcastle Sundance) for a sunrise meet at Merewether NSW.
We were rewarded with a beautiful sunrise; give that the forecast was far less promising (it was supposed to be rainy and strong winds - they arrived later in the afternnon!)
For best result - please view Large on Black!!

I was astounded by Bill Rankin's map of Chicago's racial and ethnic divides and wanted to see what other cities looked like mapped the same way. To match his map, Red is White, Blue is Black, Green is Asian, Orange is Hispanic, Gray is Other, and each dot is 25 people. Data from Census 2000. Base map © OpenStreetMap, CC-BY-SA
