Not only a sea-bird, pelicans inhabit a variety of water-scapes across Australia. When normally dry inland lakes and rivers flood, pelicans instinctively know and flock to these areas in their thousands.

We went to the Death Valley in California with the goal to experience the sailing stones on the Racetrack Playa at new moon. Before dark we scouted interesting stones on the playa and marked their GPS location. It was very windy at night, and we waited in the car for the wind to die down. It did not. I decided to go out on the playa in this condition; I found the rocks via GPS location. I used a dimmed-down warm-color LED floodlight to illuminate the black night. In addition I used a cold-color headlight from a low vantage point to illuminate the sailing stone.
Sailing stones are a geological phenomenon where rocks move and inscribe long tracks along a playa (dry lakebed) without human or animal intervention. Instead, rocks move when large ice sheets a few millimeters thick floating in an ephemeral winter pond start to break up during sunny days. These thin floating ice panels, frozen during cold winter nights, are driven by wind and shove rocks at up to 5 m/min across the muddy playa. More details.
I processed a balanced and a paintery HDR photo from a RAW exposure, merged them selectively, and carefully pulled the curves.

"The Bookstore" by artist Red Grooms was installed at the Hudson River Museum in 1979. A mix of the Morgan Library and the Mendoza Book Company, it's so much fun to walk into this immersive installation which the artist describes as a sculpto-pictorama.

I saw him sitting by the fountain with his red hat and bag. He mentioned he was from Boston. He had traveled here to take pictures of the street car. It was his thing, taking pictures of streetcars all around. He never would have thought OKC would have one.
I asked him the story of his red hat, he said he had gotten it in Ottawa on a sunny day years back.
Uncle Dave is a natural with Samantha. He fed her a bottle, burped her and now she is in la la land all comfy on his arm, and snoring little baby snores. She is so sweet!

Irresistible cuteness—sea otters! Our first wildlife sighting on our Kenai Fjord Tour out of Seward. Did the boat tip a bit as we all rushed to that side?
Bangkok, Thailand
Visiting Buddhist temples is an important part of visiting Thailand. While exploring Bangkok, I visited a temple where Indian Peafowl roam free. These birds were very acclimated to visitors making them very easy to photograph. I took advantage of the opportunity to shoot this close up shot of the bird's magnificent feathers. I love patterns and they don't get much more amazing than this!
