So, who is it that voices occasional criticism concerning my (admittedly somewhat out of control) little shopping habit then?
When Hack does it, he goes the whole hog! I don't think I have laughed so much and so hard in the last 10 years! Maybe 20 even? And, I mean that!
I saw a photograph of this place and then had the hardest time remembering the name. Luckily Bettina Tizzy knew exactly what I was talking about. She also alerted me to the fact that one had to be dressed appropriately, so I put on my Elizabethan garb (June Dion - of course!) and went over.
And what a stunning place it turned out to be: Carpaccio in 3D! This is just the first of many many visits I am sure...
We seem to be outed: A lot of people seem to have already discovered the location of our shop, thanks to a wonderful blog post by Helena Stringer. So, although we still have a ways to go, here is the slurl to alpha.tribe:
Even though the sim is brand new, apparently defense is still very much needed. So wolfie immediately sets to work, building a cannon platform at Syncretia Annex. This, as can readily be seen, is exhausting work which does take it's toll in the end... Meanwhile I perch myself on the platform he has just rezzed and admire the archipelago from a never before seen vantage point and of course the Mescaline Tammas presets...
We all went to listen to Nick Yee tonight at NMC campus. While we were there I noticed that it is not at all often for all 4 of us to be out and about in public together, so I decided to take a group photo.
As they used to say in good old Rome: "In Aqua e salus" ... however in "Vino e veritas"
;-)

After I took the first one I actually got up and moved in closer to the rest of the gang in order to get a better shot.
On really big farms they plant crops with helis don't they?
Well, our crops are nukes! Hack and I start out at Syncretia and fly the length and breadth of the Archipelago planting nukes!!!
hhhh...
We are such GOOD examples to our students! It is absolutely mind boggling that they should be lucky enough to get educated by such fine, upstanding role models...

Took a few photos of the newly enlarged premises and stitched them together as panoramas. I am always nervous of pristine, shiny, aligned (and generally obsessive :-( alpha.tribe being something of a discordant structure within its surroundings at Klein, which is a chaotic, emergent and wild and wonderful place.
Funnily enough, the shop does seem to have a place there? At least if these photos are anything to go by...

shared actionspace, consequently high co-presence, thereby affording opportunities for Projective Identity formation
MosMax's slide...
It is a long long slide from a great height all the way into the water. You touch a red ball and land inside of it and get catapulted down. If you are in mouselook it is a somewhat grueling experience. The construction itself is a beautiful luminescent wireframe. I went down quite a few times while I took these and will be back for more...

SL defaults and was taken at midday.
Soon there will be a retrospective exhibition of Roy Ascott's work at the Plymouth Arts Centre in the UK.
Part of what is planned in terms of activities surrounding the event involves young artists from Plymouth to engage in creative activity (based upon Roy's educational methodology, the Groundcourse) in SL. Their meeting/building area will be this 80 x 80 x 80 meter floating sphere which I rezed at Syncretia
These photos were mostly taken from within the Botanical Garden, looking towards Cappadocia.
One major worry when designing a huge space, which is exactly what an SL island is, is that the space won't gel, won't create good transitions from one visual domain to the other - unless, of course, you are designing something that is all part of one visual system and/or serves one function. Syncretia has entirely different spaces and visual approaches, and that has been my intention from the very beginning. Cappadocia is situated very close to the botanical garden and looking at them together made me do quite a bit of additional work on the garden's, originally white, cubes. I added textures as well as bumpmapping. I think this brings the two environments into closer harmony, while still sufficiently distinguishing them from one another.
All this time I am frantically IM'ing Hack to come flying over (we are at Klein) and see this spectacle with his very own eyes before I do something about it. It really is pretty much his only chance, but he keeps crashing!
Meanwhile, Xia is keeling over with fatigue? boredom?
Not the brightest bulb on the chandelier now, is she?
A glorious windlight sunset makes me take a long peaceful walk at Klein while Hack is busy hammering around the subway and the hospital.
There is also very nice music - really mellow old fashioned jazz standards that really help set the mood as well...
The first public presentation of the project took place in Trans-Media-Laboratory in Hellerau, Dresden.
