I went to go find owls, got skunked out so turned to Mount Baker at 600mm just before sunset! The mountain is probably at least a 100 miles away!

This is a wider view of the same whooping crane. At Christina's suggestion I have brightened it, and I much prefer the lighter take.

This viewing platform, called "Airwalk", here seen in heavy fog, is located on top of Koelnbreinsperre, Carinthia, which is Austria's largest barrage. The facility is used for renewable energy production from hydropower and is open to visitors. Under clear conditions, visitors experience the view approximately 200 meters above ground.

Here's the view from the rim of the shot I put up yesterday. The climb (which I didn't do) looks more challenging from this perspective.

I brought my wife home last night. The plan is for her to stay on the first floor, and to receive home health services, but she's able to walk around.

We switched campsites for the last two nights at Oliver Lee Memorial State Park and were very happy we did. The site had incredible views!

A general view of the main entrance to Polesden Lacey House near Great Bookham . This National Trust property has fine views from the facade running along the left looking out over the valley and onto the rolling Surrey Hills .

Polesden Lacey was the weekend retreat of indomitable socialite, Dame Margaret Greville. From here she entertained royalty, politicians and countless celebrities at lavish weekend parties.

Today, you can visit the house to see the stunning décor, designed to impress; from the glittering gold Saloon to state-of-the-art conveniences like Mrs Greville's personal lift; and her collection of Dutch Old Master paintings, excellent examples of fine silverware, ceramics and maiolica.

The formal gardens are varied and beautiful throughout the year. Snowdrops and daffodils brighten colder months until the double herbaceous borders come to life in spring, a riot of colour. Visit the stunning walled Rose Garden mid-summer to see more than 2,000 roses in manicured beds and climbing over pergola. The winter garden is a hidden masterpiece that comes to life with colour and fragrance in the depths of the winter frost.

Families will love the natural play areas, tree swings and fun trails and activities in the holidays. The South Lawn is perfect for rolling down and there is plenty of space to run, fly a kite, go bug hunting, or simply explore.

There are plenty of picnic spots and accessible pathways as well as places to buy hot and cold food, snacks, cakes and drinks.

Finally, the 1400 acre estate is perfect for long woodland walks where you can easily forget how close you are to London.

Firostefani lies to the north of Fira and there is little difference that separates it from its considerable larger neighbour. Without a doubt, the views from this part of Santorini are spectacular, offering another perspective of Santorini volcano. One can enjoy the magnificent sight of Fira itself and the breathtaking sunset in the evening. The village has plenty of restaurants and cafes located on the most fabulous locations. Between the village of Firostefani and Imerovigli lies the Agios Nikolas Monastery. Hotels are plenty in Firostefania. They are quite picturesque with vividly colored houses. There are also few shops, most of them are concentrated at the main shopping street, at the centre of Firostefani.

We spent a week on Santorini during the beginning of May enjoying its picturesque magic quite heavily. One may be surprised that its towns are rather crowded even before the peak tourist season, but it is still a special place for enjoying slow pace of Greek islands life.

Less crowded than neighboring Fira, the settlement of Firostefani is perched on a top of a cliff in a similarly magnificent way, and its white washed houses and blue domes form a really wondrful sight.

This is a view taken at the Blue Dolphins apartments, on the way from Fira to Imerovigli.
