Some information of Kitsilano Beach: Some information on Kitsilano Beach: Kitsilano Beach is one of the most popular beaches in Vancouver, especially in the summer months. From the beach you have amazing views over the mountains, English Bay (an inlet/bay of the Pacific Ocean) and downtown Vancouver. The beach is home to a salt water outdoor heated swimming pool which is the longest pool in Canada. This beach is great for a walk any time of the year. You can walk towards Vanier Park or Jericho Beach from here.
Some information Vancouver: Vancouver is known as one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Vancouver is Canada's third largest city and is located by the Pacific Ocean on a peninsula surrounded by water and in the distance there are the mountains. Vancouver is considered a pretty clean and safe city with a great variety of shops, museums, theatre, outdoor activities (hiking, walking, kayaking, sailing, skiing on the local mountains in the winter) and more. Walking around Stanley Park is a favourite thing to do for tourist and locals alike. This beautiful park extends from the city centre of Vancouver almost to the North Shore. With wonderful views of the mountains and the ocean around every corner, downtown Vancouver is one of the most picturesque cities in the world. Walk along Robson Street, the most popular shopping street. Experience Chinatown with the different kinds of building and stores, walk on the beaches of English Bay and the seawall of Stanley Park, enjoy a walk in Gastown with the old steam clock and the many gift shops.
Look out for some Hollywood film sets as Vancouver is used for many big Hollywood movies and shows. That's why you might hear that Vancouver is called "Hollywood North". Here are some examples of shows and movies that were/are filmed here: "The X-Files", "Dark Angel", "Stargate-SG1", "The 6th Day", "Kiss of the Dragon", "Small Ville" and many more. Then there is also the Canada Place, the stadiums, the Harbour Lookout, the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, Science World, the Vancouver Art Gallery and much more! All of these attractions are located within minutes from the city centre.
Vancouver is also popular in the winter for winter activities. There are 3 local mountains where you can do any type of winter sport. There is Grouse Mountain, most famous for it's stunning views over the city and fresh powder snow. Grouse Mountain is accessible by skyride...this is a big airtram that will take you up to the top of the mountain. Mount Seymour and Cypress Mountain are famous too and you also get wonderful views from the top of these mountains. As you can see...Vancouver has lots to offer. The Winter Olympics were held here in 2010 as well.
I was on the ferry from NYC to NJ and taking pictures of the skyline - A man stepped in front of me and I couldn't resist taking this shot

i was lucky enough to have this spectacular view to stare at for a few hours today. It left me mesmerized!
I think this is Oregon Stonecrop... Sedum oreganum?? NO!
ghs.gresham.k12.or.us/science/ps/nature/gorge/5petal/ston... ???
It was found only a few miles from above link...
according to raystephenson40 it could also be the more common variety Sedum divergens, Pacific Stonecrop.
UPDATE:
i FOUND THIS INFO THAT INDICATES IT IS INDEED DIVERGENS. A close look at the stem leaves shot that they are opposite not alternate.
The basal cluster of leaves seen here are much broader than thick while the leaves of the flowering stems are alternate. The stem leaves of the similar spreading stonecrop (Sedum divergens) are opposite.

It's Friday again! TGIF!
Another photo taken while in Borders. This was taken on the way from St. Boswell to Earlston. I read about this before and saw the signpost so drove up to take a look. The view was breathtaking!
Here's a direct quote from a website:
The view of the Eildon Hills from Bemersyde was one of Sir Walter Scott’s favourite views of his beloved Borderland. It is said that the horse pulling the hearse taking him to his interment at Dryburgh Abbey stopped at this spot, as it usually did on its daily outings with Sir Walter aboard.
The Eildon Hills, the remains of volcanic activity, have been occupied in the past by Iron Age peoples and Romans, as it is an excellent lookout point. In the foreground, the River Tweed flows past, and a flat area of land within a loop in the river is the site of the first Melrose Abbey. Nothing now remains at Old Melrose.
Have a good weekend everyone!

The River, Bronze, 1991-93, by Dhruva Mistry, for The City Council, Birmingham.
The main modern sculpture is directly in front of the Town Hall and occupies the centre of Victoria Square. It is based around a fountain with cascade, containing a nude woman (nicknamed 'The Floozie in the Jacuzzi’) in the top pool and a couple of small, slender figures in the lower pool, with flanking sphinxes of large size. These sculptures are the work of Dhruva Mistry RA and date from 1993. The colossal nude is called The River, and is bronze and weighs 1.75 tonnes. The sphinxes (the Guardians) are close to the Assyrian type, with rear legs ending in hooves. As well, the scale is large enough that they fit with the dominating architecture all around. In contrast, the two small figures in the lower pool provide a more intimate feel.
