Vom Helgoländer Klippenrandweg kann man Vögel in 50m Flughöhe aus paralleler Position fotografieren. Es gibt nicht viele Orte, wo man diese besondere Perspektive so leicht erreichen kann.
Komp. Detail: Im unbeschnittenen Bild habe ich mehr Himmel als Wasser und normalerweise vermeide ich es den Horizont mittig durchs Bild laufen zu lassen. In diesem Fall verschwimmen Himmel und Nordsee aber in der Unschärfe des Hintergrunds und der Blick des Betrachters wird auch durch die beinahe X-Form des Vogels in die Bildmitte bzw. -vordergrund gezogen. Der Horizont selbst kann nur erahnt werden, er schneidet das Bild nicht durch. Deshalb habe ich den Ausschnitt jetzt so gewählt, dass mit Himmel und Ozean zwei Elemente des Basstölpel Lebensraums gemeinsam und gleichwertig vertreten sind.
From the Heligoland cliff edge path you can photograph birds at a height of 50m from a parallel position. There are not many places where you can achieve this special perspective so easily.
Comp. Detail: In the uncropped image I have more sky than water and I normally avoid having the horizon running through the middle of the image. In this case, however, the sky and the North Sea fade into the blurred background and supported by the bird's almost X-shape the viewer's gaze is drawn to the middle or foreground of the image. The horizon itself can only be guessed at. It doesn't cut through the image. That's why I chose the crop so that two elements of the northern gannet's habitat, sky and ocean, are represented together and equally.

Taken in Raw through a tree where this small beam of light was just crossing over the Ladybird, again a two image process in raw one for the ladybird to reduce highlights that were over-exposed and the second for the background to recover some detail as under-exposed both due to the camera light meter being totally confused and not reading the light properly, if I had taken in Jpeg believe the image would have been a right-off, slowly getting the hang of it I think. In my painting "White Lightning" you will see the image of Bridge 13 at night. A bright white lightning bolt in the form of a Graffiti arrow jumps across the sky bringing energy and uneasiness to the Rose City. The sky is made up of a geometric cube pattern that symbolizes both conformity and sharp disturbance at the same time. The shadow of the bridge drips into a multicolor canal. The multitude of colors represent a bright and energetic creative class searching for somewhere to flourish and fighting against the darkness to spread positivity.

We haven't really had much proper winter weather yet this year, apart from one night when it briefly snowed and then melted very quickly. So I have had to go back a couple of years for a seasonal image this year. This was the view one cold and pale morning looking north along the main ridge of the Malvern Hills from the ice covered Iron Age Hill Fort that is Herefordshire Beacon towards Worcestershire Beacon in the distance on the left.

I was focusing on my favorite convenience store to photograph and I saw a biker coming into the frame and I decided to include him in the composition. I was really happy with the results even though the punctum of this photograph —what Roland Barthes defines as the aspect of an image that moves a viewer in a deep or emotional way— was intended to be the dimly lit Parklaine Variety sign.
This is the beauty of photography; one often arrives with a specific goal in mind but it is often the accidents or unplanned events that make an image stand out.

Exhibit: Luftwerk Solarise: A Sea of All Colors -- Framing the legendary “spring song waterfall,” which crowns the lagoon of the Fern Room, Portal draws the viewer’s gaze to fall directly upon the heart of the conservatory. Floating above the surface of the reflection pool, Portal performs as a frame for—and reflection of—the natural surroundings in which it is situated. With its mutli-faceted use of mirrors, the installation mimics the slick of the reflection pool, while fragmenting and abstracting the figures of flora blooming in the space.
I know there is no chance of snow in these parts over Christmas, but here's hoping it does arrive before too long.

This was taken on a particularly fine day climbing Garbh Bheinn near Kinlochleven in the Highlands of Scotland.
I love the title of this work by Arcangelo Sassolino. It allows the viewer to create their own meaning. In principle though, this kinetic sculpture illustrates the forces of physics that push material objects to their limits. The weight of that rock threatens to break the glass plate on which it sits. The shadows and reflection all add to the mysterious nature of the work as the rock seems to be floating on air.
